The Simpsons, the first Transformers cartoon, South Park, and Dragonball Z (Transformers and DBZ obviously for nostalgic reasons).

Contrary to the opinions of people who probably haven't seen South Park since season 1 episode 1 and Cartman having an anal probe and getting Pinkeye, it is one of the single most intelligent shows on American television today. Nothing in America comes close to it's social commentary to be honest. It's always rather bi-partisan and points out the lunacy of America in a completely unsubtle manner (on the surface at least) of swearing and fart jokes, but actually watch it with half an open-mind and you'll be surprised by how biting it's satire can be. The episode about Britney and the paparazzi was truely one of the more disturbing episodes of any show I've seen on television, and just starkly true as well. Clearly South Park would be in among my favourite television shows. Pokemon is a fucking awful cheap Japanimation show that looks like it has about 5 cells per character to showcase all their possible expressions. Appalling. I quite like Aqua Teen Hunger Force as number 2, Futurama as number 3 and oooh, number 4 is harder, so many good animated shows out there, from King of the Hill to...actually OK. Number 4 is going to have to be Family Guy. Purile as fuck. But hey, it makes me laugh regardless of how stupid and formulaic it can be. Oh and Thorgrim is right to mention Animaniacs. That show was fucking nutty. Edited by user 17 December 2009 01:58:43(UTC)

South Park for its witty social commentary, no one in America does it better. ATHF because I love 11 minutes of pure nonsense Futurama because contrary to the "Simpsons in space" jabs it became a much better show than the Simpsons
Number 4 has a lot of people vying for the final spot, here is a list:
Metalocalypse- Hilarious take on heavy metal culture Family Guy- As said before it just makes you laugh no matter what Batman: The Animated Series (the 90s series)- One of the most serious cartoons I have ever seen, this is better than several primetime TV dramas Robot Chicken- Family Guy without even a shred of plot, its hit or miss but when it hits it is hilarious, especially the Star Wars episodes

The only episode of South Park out of all the 18-20 I've watched that I found "Intelligent or witty" was the one about the nanny coming in and teaching the mother how to discipline her child (A parody of Nanny 911 or whatever the show is called). But the rest is predictable repetitive cheap horrible stupid comedy.

I'm embarrassed to say this but I use to know the whole song when I was smaller.
Pokemon will always remain one of the most creative cartoons.

Lots of cool cartoons. South Park, Futurama, The Simpsons (though it's well past its prime, I loved the Movie and if they made another good movie that finally ended it all then I'd be happy), the perennially-underrated King of the Hill.
I liked the second season of Family Guy a lot, when I was about 15, but the third season, at least half of the jokes I just felt were so scattershot and just plain cruddy and formulaic that I gave up on that show before it ever got renewed. Having seen a couple of episodes since its renewal, I think I made the right call on that one. Then a couple years later South Park perfectly articulated my complaints in the Cartoon Wars double-episode, where they reveal that Family Guy is written by manatees. I just don't get how people watch Family Guy and don't just sigh and cringe every time it cuts away to some ridiculously easy pop culture gag. Sometimes Family Guy's actual jokes are funny, but far more often it's just lazy and (though I am so loathe to use this word that I spent this whole paragraph trying to avoid actually saying it) "random" for the sake of cheap gags, that I, much like Cartman in South Park's Cartoon Wars, get extremely angry when people assume I must love Family Guy because it's just like my sense of humour. American Dad doesn't even warrant discussion.
Futurama would probably be my favourite of that crop of prime-time type animated shows, because I'm such a sci-fi nerd. Pretty happy it's coming back next year. Plenty of life in it yet.
I also have fond memories of cartoons as a child. The Raccoons was a favourite. A lot of those shitty 80s Filmation ones like Brave Starr, and good 80s ones like Thundercats, even early Transformers. All those cool 90s Disney ones like the Talespin, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, etc. Some of the 90s Warner Bros stuff too, I LOVED Taz-mania, Animaniacs, oh, and the largely forgotten Histeria! was an absolute gem.
And probably a whole bunch I forgot.
