From the 3 episodes I've seen of the new season, I'm not really liking the new plot but it will probably grow on me as it goes. I'm happy to see Eliza Coupe aka Denise "Jo" Mahoney become a series regular, I loved her character last season when she was an intern, her sarcastic and insensitive attitude reminded me of sort-of a female version of Dr. Cox. Just because her and Cox are my favorite characters I will continue watching the ongoing season but I can't get into that new girl, Lucy, at all.

I totally forgot the new season started. I am gonna have to watch it.

The last season was one of the best, and the best since about season 4-5. From season 5-7 they kept getting more and more into wacky jokes and fantasies and less about the drama (although I loved the Dr. Cox organ transplant failure subplot in season 5 and wish they would have made it last longer).

I'm talking about season 9.

Yeah it started a couple of weeks ago, I had to play catch up and watch them online like a week ago.

I have only watched the first episode but I like it and where it seems to be going. I am glad they don't seem to be recycling characters completely (although the whole cryer thing with Lucy is Elliot-esque). I think this is the best way for them to extend the series without Braff, Jenkins, Flynn (who I will miss most, damn "The Middle"), and Chalke.

That is kind of the point. Lawrence has been adamant since talk of a 9th season first began that this would have to be a different show. He even wanted to give it a new title (he wanted to simply call it Med School) but ABC wouldn't let him because they didn't want to lose the Scrubs brand. I am glad they are not trying to recreate the original series. That show, with that cast, that set, those characters, writers, directors, and so on was a wonderful thing but its run is over. I am glad they are taking the show in a new direction instead of keeping the same formula just for old time's sake or for the ease of doing it. It takes a lot of guts to take a mostly successful show and completely reinvent it the way they are doing, and I actually enjoyed the first 4 episodes.

I can't be the only one who's loving the new season. Everyone would of hated it if they just recreated the first 8 seasons, they've done something new and it's funny. It's still got that spark that Scrubs has always had, it's just in a new setting. JD's off in a couple of episodes, so we'll see how that works out.

well yeah, but it's just not the same old scrubs we all know. Yes, it's exciting and it's still very original, but too many changes the past 2-3 seasons really made it far from scrubs. They could have made the new season be a spin-off, but still keep the original scrubs going, because I'm sure that there are many fans like me who still want to see how JD, Elliot, Turk, etc. live their lives to a further extent, because you only see them at the university, or at the bar, and rarely have a moment alone, and when they do, it kinda messes with the new main character Lucy. And besides, the original main characters are said to be leaving the show after episode 6, so it's an entirely different show. and then the last season new characters are now having even smaller roles. like Mahoney, she was starting to become a major character last season, but now, she isn't as big of a character. Don't get me wrong, she's still important, but you only see her at the hospital mostly, and she's supposed to be like the "female mentor" for Lucy, but idk, I'll have to see after episode 6.

The point is, they couldn't carry on the original series. The main actors are leaving. This season was supposed to be a spin off - I just think that the new characters are yet to come into the spotlight. In a few episodes, they'll be taking the lead and I think that's where you'll see the big difference.

yeah, but artistically, it's kinda dumb because it's like calling that Friends spinoff with joey still Friends.

Well it looks like season 9 will be the last one. ABC is going to burn off the remaining episodes of the season airing two a week.

There may still be hope. I just read some stuff that says ABC hasn't officially canceled the show and the burn off may just be to make space for when Lost returns. Here is hoping Scrubs Med School season 2 shows up this fall.

I'd hope it would still return for a second season with the new cast but I don't see it happening. Ratings are considerable lower than the previous season. But there might be hope because Scrubs is not the only show their burning off, their also doing it for the other comedy shown on Tuesdays which I can't remember the name of right now. And Lost returns a week after the final Scrubs of the season is shown.

You are thinkinh of "Better Off Ted"
