Guitar brands have a thread, so, are any of us drummers? If so, post a bit about your gear or a video of you playing...

I've been playing drums for a couple of years, though I haven't been formally taught before, I'm really just working on stuff I've picked up as I went along or things I've seen on the internet. Drums are an instrument that I really enjoy playing, second to piano. I like to think I can carry a beat pretty well, but there's always room for improvement. Playing a Mapex QR kit, with Zildjian ZBTs, though I'm upgrading in spring to a Pearl Vision Maple kit. I'll post a picture of my kit if there's any interest in this thread.

I suck at the drums so bad, and I wish I could play them because they are cool. But I either end up hurting myself or hurting someone when I attempt to play them.

3. Brann Dailor (Mastodon. Purely for The Wolf is Loose)
2. Jimmy Chamberlin (SmashingPumpkins)

One day I desire to obtain a set of drums...dont really care much for learning music to play them properly, I just would like a set to smash away at and try and emulate George Kolias. One day....

Although it is not at my house, it's still my kit.

What are you going for - birch? I assume you're playing metal, so the low tone you get from a birch bass drum would be pretty desirable. I'm still in the middle between the birch and the maple, I like the warmth you get from maple but the bass drum seems to be lacking punch.

Use Evans EQ drumheads and you'll get a nice bass drum punch. And yeah birch definately, I might get maple because I like versatility or at least a maple snare.

If you're looking to add toms, then get the smaller, higher toms in maple. The snare that comes as standard with the VBX is steel, which is always nice. I'm going for the custom, because I prefer to only have one rack mounted tom if possible. As far as heads go, I've always preferred Remo.

Me too but I went to a store where drums were set up adn the bass drum wasn't that great and was a remo but then the head broke and they replaced it with an evans head and it was nice and punchy. Im probably just gonna get the 8 piece vision kit

Big cost there ahah. I'd rather spend my money on the hardware than an extra tom, if I'm honest.

Man, I wish more drummers played weird things. Odd bits of metal, plastic tubs, old springs, bits of wood, broken guitars, bells, ceramic plates... Guys like Jamie Muir, Michael Blair, Moe Staiano... Or failing that do crazy freakin' free time jazz improv like Nicolas Field and Alex Babel.

But then, that's me.
