Meybe you should open for someone.

We are, don't worry. At some point, we're opening for Infexxions. But we were just wondering if there were any new bands that wanted to perform with us.

We'd be happy to perform for you guys, we are an alternative rockband, but we are only available after January 14 because we have an ongoing tour with The Verdict Is Vengeance..

We're happy with that if you want to :) We can perform on our own for the other lot.

Okay, we found some. All Mind fans who come to the Chromosome 13 (Kthx) tour will also get a free copy of our days before we became sorta well known. Not the black metal stuff, don't worry. To add to that a new edition of the CD with those bonus tracks will be available in shops and for downlaod by the time the year clocks out.

Mind speaking live on TotalRock.com

UserPostedImage

Well guys, thanks for coming to see us. Tell the viewers who don't know you a bit more about yourself.

Jason: Thanks, man. Well, we're Mind, urrrm... we come from England and.. urrrr... to be honest, we just want to make people listen to our music.
Aaron: Whether you like it or not, Mind will get their dirty hands on you and shake you up like hell...
Jason: Yeah.

Fair enough... So, what about your new album, Free Your Mind? It's been commercially successful, how are you going to live up to it?

Harry: If I may speak?... We make music whenever we feel something coming on, whenever we feel inspiration. We're not one of those pretty, puffy, glammy, sell-out bands who are pressured into writing songs about love and sex for albums that have a due date. Our songs are political, epic and awesome.
Jason: Yeah.
Robert: S'pose, although if any record company needs a new act...
Aaron: You know where to find us.
Jason: Yeah. The thing is we're not in a rush to... urrrm... what's the word?... follow up Free Your Mind yet. It's doing fairly well, and we'll let thatg hang for a bit.

What are your favourite songs on the album?

Robert: Almost Again is a fun song to bash the drums to. But it isn't ours, which sucks.
Jason: Mhm. My personal fave is Moon, nice and easy to do... not wrecking my urrr... vocal chords.
Aaron: Free Your Mind is energetic,, it always is fun to perform and wreck guitars to.
Harry: ... I hate the whole album. It gets to you after performing them continuosly for a while. If I was pushed, I would say Blasphemy! because people enjoy it.
Jason: Misery Guts, cheer up!

Some people have dismissed you as Nu-Metal posers trying to be Hardcore. What do you say to them.

Jason: Fuck you.

... Is that all?

Jason: Yes.

Okay then... next question is, despite becoming a large band rapidly, you insist on using basic recording techniques. Why?

Jason: Danny boy insists so.
Aaron: If you don't know Dan the Evil Clown, he is our producer and mascot.
Harry: Get used to him, he's like a disease...
Jason: Yeah. But I like him. Alright lad, he is.
Robert: ...Impartial to him really. He's alright, of course we have our spats, but he's a nice guy.

What's been the hardest moment so far in being a big band?

Robert: Sounds cliched, but it has to be fulfilling the needs of the fans.
Aaron: To add to that, some tossers are trying to stop our brave quest... OF METAL!
Harry: Dude, I told you not to say that... we're a punk/metal hybrid, not ACTUAL metal. Anyway, adding to what he said, these people insist on making our life hell, whether they've heard us or not. It might be religious dudes or "true" metal fans, it doesn't matter. They just have a thing against us and I don't like it.
Jason: For me, performing Never Say Sorry is painful. I lost my friend and.. well... yeah.

Okay, final question. Will you play Blasphemy! for us?

Jason: Sure dude, that's why we're here in the first place...

Okay then. We thought we'd give all you Mind fans a little update on how things are going songwise. After a little holiday to celebrate the success of our album to Jamaica, we've thought up some new ideas. One song that we've written is unnamed, but is what we like to call "Reggae-Metal" A bit weird, but it could work. There are countless other ones that we've also written, most of them not worthy for mentioning, but we're still writing and writing whenever we get an idea.

Jason's also turned Rastafarian all of a sudden, so he's developed a Jamaican accent. We're slightly worried... ah well. It'll sort itself out in time. Another song is grabbing our attention. The working title for it is "Breeze" This stands out a lot, because it is a truly epic number. We're thinking violins, choirs and other epic crap to add to it. In fact, we're thinking of making it into 3 parts we like it so much. This is seriously the best time of our life over here and without your support and money, we wouldn't be here.

Last notice for now, we just wanted to say that we might be coming to the states for a few shows if the Chromosome 13 tour goes well.

Time to go back to muddy, wet ol' England soon for the Crimbo holidays. Twas fun here in Jamaica, but everything must come to an end. We're packed with some songs. Last time we wrote, we mentioned about coming to America to perform. We've decided it shall happen. Not a tour, but a few shows. We need to make our name out here if we're going to get anywhere. We've written a new song we're pretty proud of. It MAY make our next album. Not sure yet. It's called "Soul Shadows" and it's sort of a Power Metal song. Not fully, but sort of. It's a different feel from a lot of our songs and thta's a good thing.

Let's tell you about our trip now

10.00: Plane takes off at Stansted airport. Jason falls asleep, so they narrowly catch it.
23.55: Arrive at Jamaica. Straight to the clubs.

The next day....

5.00: Arrive back at apartment after bender. Sleeps.
10.00: Wake up. Unhappy.
14.00: Looking around the town. All tourists, not one Jamaican in sight.
17.00: Beach. Harry buggers off with some Jamaican girl.
19.00: We go to a resteraunt without Harry. Very nice, good service.
21.00: Jason goes on another bender. Us sensible people go back and get an early night.
23.30: Jason comes back after getting kicked out of a pub.

The next day...

11.00: Wake up. Invigorating songwriting sessions.
15.00: Harry comes back to the apartment looking smug.
15.15: We hit the town again.
21.45: We go to the local bar for a quick drink.

The next day...

2.00: We get back from pub.
12.00: Wake up. Except for Jason, until Aaron farts on his head and puts it on YouTube.
12.15: For the final time, we go to town. Too early to drink, but we watch some local bands.
22.50: Harry rushes us all back home, saying "We don't want to be late"

The next day...

10.00: Wake up. Here we are talking now.

To keep all of our new fans aware, we're releasing ALL of our previous demos, including the one that got us here, MindBodySoul. It'll give everyone a little glimpse of early mind, and how we've progressed as the years have gone on by. From obscurity to actually releasing a full length album, we've made it far. (The next step is record label, by the way, come on people!)

MindGames EP/ Buried Alive/ Hunterbird/ MindBodySoul EP

MindGames EP
UserPostedImage

Jason: "MindGames was our first demo and our least well recorded. It sounds very poorly done, but it has a retro 80s thrash sound to it, even though it was only done recently. It was back when I had longer hair and smoked weed a lot. Much more stoner rock-ish than Hardcore or Metal at this point. A good place for fans to explore."

1. Blood'N'Crust (1:58)

The first song Mind ever recorded. Brings a tear to your eyes, does it not? A very quick affair, but it's powerful enough to blow your face away. It shows Grindcore roots, although being Stoner mostly. No solo, which is very unusual for a Mind song. The main riff is similar to Groove Metal bands (such as PanterA) and this stays in place throughout the whole song. So, in conclusion, not the most groundbreaking song, but it's still good.

2. Chamber (5:21)

This is a Stoner/Doom hybrid which goes at a crunchingly slow place, destroying everything in its path. The bassline is heard loudly, almost louder than the actual riff itself. There is a solo around about the 4 minute mark, but it is slow and deadly, rather than the fast paced, technical wank that you hear in Mind songs nowadays. This almost made it into the MindBodySoul EP, but was bludgeoned out by a new song that went by the name of Never Say Sorry. A much more different affair from Blood'N'Crust, certainly out of the ordinary.

3. The Cooking Pot Witheld Many A Dark Secret (10:02)

This song is 10 minutes of pure weed-influenced nonsense. However, it is still enjoyable as the tempo changes keep it fresh whilst still making it stoner like the days of old. At that current moment, we were mostly improvising and the guitar battles were actual competitions of who could make the most complicated noise. For the final minute or two, a drum solo plays it out until the demo eventually fades into obscurity...

OOC: I will add the other Demos soon, but for now, this'll do.

Buried Alive
UserPostedImage

Jason: "This was our first proper Mind record. It was when Nu-Metal was just fading out, so probably the wrong time to try and descend into those waters, but we're Mind, so we did anyway. It isn't just Nu-Metal though, it portrays other styles such as melodic death metal, funk rock, hardcore and a hint of indie at points as well. It is my favourite of all our demos we've done. I even like it more than MindBodySoul. Any fan of ours must listen to this first."

1. Buried Alive (In Thoughts of Those Loves Past) (3:42)

This is one of those songs which, although heavy, could have been a big mainstream metal hit. It isn't too deathy like Morbid Angel or Possessed, but it is heavy, oh so heavy. It is also our first song to have the timing and beat remain throughout the song. I even incorparate some cleaan vocals throughout parts. The song is about ex-girlfriends and is actually pretty morbid if you can understand the lyrics. Lyrics come with the CD pack if you buy it. Now.

2. Understood (2:59)

More of a Nu-Metal song than the rest, it has 7-string guitars and a slow paced, chunky riff. It also has stoner bits in it like on the previous demo, but remains quite short and sweet, so the lesser intelligent fan doesn't have to wade throughout the whole bloody thing. A simple song, it doesn't have anything out of the ordinary. That is until the last 30 seconds. A huge chord summons up a ferocious guitar battle between myself and Aaron, which is extremely fast and terrifying. Mostly the latter. It gave me nightmares.

3. Error 404 (4:04)

See what we did there? With the length and... oh forget it. Pushing Industrial to its murky limits, Error 404 is more of what modern Mind fans would think we were like. Imagine if Ministry went and had a lovechild with a Death metal band like Pestilince. Then imagine that lovechild married Rammstein and had twins. One of those twins went and had a good life, whilst the other became this song. To add to that, the solo is pure thrashy goodness, brilliant for moshing the night away to. Sort of.

4. See You When The Penny Drops (6:37)

You know when we said that one of our influences was System of a Down? Well, this song is almost identical to Aerials, except longer, and no violins or Serj Tankians eyebrows. The lyrics follow on from Buried Alive and the riff of Buried Alive is even played in the center of the song, before drifting off into moe progressive realms, such as The Mars Volta or Muse. Then a huge build up in white noise and drums results in an explosive solo playing the song out. B-e-a-utiful

The last re-issued demo, since you know about MindBodySoul...

Hunterbird
UserPostedImage
OOC: Poorly made, I know. I was in a rush.

Jason: "Hunterbird was our most accesable demo we'd done. It was more focused on clean vocals and occasionally the odd acoustic guitar. It was MUCH less dark aswell. Actually, this is my least favourite of them all, it was less heavy, less fun and less weed-influenced. Doesn't make it bad, I think there are still some good songs on here that I wish we could of worked on, but in general Buried Alive was better. Fans who like our proggy stuff should listen to this."

1. Ant Eater (Armaggedon is Nigh) (8:51)
The first song sets off on a basic groove metal riff, as Mind would normally do. This riff goes on with harsh vocals to accompany it for the first segment, the first couple of minutes. The riff then fades out quietly, with the drunms, leaving only the bass going. That then slows down rapidly, which brings a thunderous chord from the guitar to the rescue, as well as the drums kicking back into life all of a sudden. A slow, alt. metal riff then carries that on until, from out of nowhere seemingly, it turns acoustic for the last minute. It's possibly the best song on the demo.

2. Hunterbird Prayer (0:34)
A little break from Ant Eater, merely an interval preparing you for the next song. It is a spoken word piece, with a gentle acoustic backing to ease your mind up. It's all a bit meh to me.

3. IRO-Bot (Coheed and Cambria cover) (6:36)
We cover them all the time, as you can see.
(OOC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RohNzOx9ujI)

4. Mind & Mentality... A History of Power (16:32)

Our longest song EVER. It's seperated into 3 parts. The first part is a lush acoustic solo, with melodic vocals alongside it, until the bass and drums slowly kick in. It remains gentle for a while, until... At 5:34, everything goes silent until Aaron comes in with a dangerously fast solo and the atmosphere turns technical death metally. One long scream carries the song throughout and then everything goes thrashy. Very thrashy. It goes quiet for a minute at 8:09, until returning with a solo for another couple of minutes. When the final piece comes in at 10:42, it is a piece of chunky industrial metal, not unlike Devin Towsend. It is quieter, but the scene is already set. The most technical piece we'd done.

Don't ask us how we did it, but our new single (Amber is the New Red) reached number 50 in the UK charts, despite not being a proper single. This may not seem impressive to you lot, but for us it is immense, especially for an extreme metal act.

We thank all our fans who made this happen and also to the people who run the charts, who we didn't even have to bribe this time.

Our second most successful song performed live.

2. Anarchy in the UK
Yes, like the one we did on that Failed Youth thing.

3. Aqualung
A cover of the Jethro Tull classic performed by 4 scruffy students. It has a more slow, doomy feel to the original.

4. Amber is the new Red
If you haven't heard of this song by now, you're not a Mind fan. It's our most successful hit to date. More info will come on these songs once the next album is released, so patience.

5. Cascade of Blood live
Not much to say, our third most successful song live.

6. Perfect Insanity live
Our cover of a Disturbed song live.

7. Brand of Hatred
Wasn't deemed good enough to be in Free Your Mind, so we left it. It's Heavy Metal at its simplest. Faux-Halford vocals, squealing, yet awesome, power chords and a drum beat to knock your face off. All 4 minutes of it are highly enjoyable and easy to listen to if you're a metal, or indeed rock, fan.

8. Interview with Mind
If you've read Kerrang! this week, you'll know we did an interview. Here's that interview in full, caught on tape.

9. Blue
A bonus from the Cascade of Blood single. Here's what I said about it previously: A 7 minute progressive rock song played with simply guitars and vocals, the hidden track Blue is a more experimental side to Mind, showing that they don't just rant about the state of the world. It has no real meaning, although it can be interpretated however people want it to be. The 4 minute solo finalises the song and therefore brings the single to a close.

The official cover for our limited edition second disc. I thought it was pretty awesome myself. Certainly less lazy than our actual cover anyway.

The Chromosome 13 Tour kicks off tongiht in Cambridge, our hometown. Be sure to buy the shirts and stuff afterwards, it doesn't come free, y'know. We apologise to ticket buyers yesterday, however we had made commitments to a New Years concert, which we had to go to.

We're having some more ideas, which is always a good thing. Lets give you a run down of some of the ideas we've had lately, shall we?

One of my personal favourites is The Good Apollyon. It's a sort of murky, doomy, slow chunking riff with a range of vocals spreading across. A harp plays its melancholy sound in the background with gently weeping violins. And that shit.

Another good one we've had is a much more fast paced speed-metal bludgeon called Planting the Seeds of Doubt. Resembles a Slayer/Venom hybrid, except slightly more punkish.

Our latest idea though is my favourite. It's a 3 part suite called Anthema. The 3 parts are all very different, the first part (Platinum Hearse) is a doom/prog number, like The Good Apollyon, but instead uses black metal vocals. The second part (Serenade) is a more metalcore affair, using different types of vocalisation and squeakier, higher-pitched, faster guitar work. The final part (Into Ashes) is a melodic prog-rock ballad song, quite simple really.

I'll update it all soon.
