Bassists are always really overlooked which isn't fair.So list your favorites.
John Entwistle(The Who)-He played more leads than Pete Townsend
Sean Malone(Cynic)-Amazing, very jazzy and quick
Steve Digiorgio(Death,Sadus)-Fastest player with finger, period, amazing lines with death and good tone too!
Alex Webster(Cannibal Corpse)-Amazing fingers and he made playing clean on bass sound cool in metal.
Cliff Burton(Metallica)-His playing when it comes to lines weren't actually very good after the first record, but he wrote good songs and For Whom The Bell Tolls is probably one of my favorite intros of all time.
Victor Wooten(Solo)-Really good at slapping,he's versatile as well.
Flea(RHCP)-His earlier funky lines were really good,he really helped the Peppers get their sound.
Mike Dirnt(Green Day)-He was my first favorite bassist. He doesn't do anything really good now but everything until American Idiot had some really good basslines, or at least Insomniac and back. His bass work on Kerplunk was phenomenal and he added lots of good accents to his lines.
Hunter Burgan(AFI)-He's consistently good, really aggressive sometimes and melodic other times, a lot of his work dominates AFI's verses (Days of the Peonix,Totalimmortal,Third Season,Miss Murder, etc, basically about half of all the songs on each album he's played on)
There are a lot more I admire but I'm lazy. |
The Nimrods (Progressive Death Metal,Progressive Metal,Progressive Rock.Think Opeth/Dream Theater/Tool/Pink Floyd) Jimmy Him- Lead Guitar,Vocals,Primary Songwriter Davey Matlock- Bass,Guitars,Vocals,Primary Songwriter Kit Saunders- Drums, additional percussion Jaska Latvala- Rhythm Guitar,Vocals,Primary Songwriter Jack Burton- Keyboards,Keytar Satyr in the Frost(Melodic Black Metal, think Satyricon/Mayhem/Early Dimmu Borgir/Immortal) Sigmund-Vocals and Rhythm guitar Celt-Drums Saxon-Lead Guitar Sauron-Keyboard Gris-Bass Rincewind wrote:The Nimrods wrote:I knew you'd be back! *cries* now now, *hugs and steals wallet* xNightsidex wrote:Oops I stumbled over and hit the "extend ban" button. I thought bassists were people who just couldn't play guitar?
I feel this post needs a disclaimer. |

Definately Chris Wolstenholme. He is amazing. John Myung from Dream Theater is also great. And Steve Harris, the god of 4-string *worship* |

First of all, I like the above comment, but I don't think that bassists are just people who can't play guitar. If you listen to some of the best funk bassist (and more, but I like funk bass the best), you hear things that only someone who plays bass, and is an experienced player, could pull off. |
