Wrote some lyrics today which do not entirely fit within my originally defined parameters for the month. Still got a lofty concept (in this case a bleak sense of theological fatalism in a Philip K. Dick mode), just, slightly too song-like for my voice. If only I sounded like Michael Gira. |

I have completely destroyed my dear Craptop4. I don't know how I managed this. I'm currently using Captain Slow (my mum's computer, not James May). Luckily, I managed to salvage the hard drive of Craptop4 and got an external plugin device, and have almost finished setting up a desktop from stuff lying around the house. (Well, my dad and brother have, because I'd have no idea.) Just need to sort out the sound and we're done. Edited by user 03 February 2010 09:44:13(UTC)

This computer's sort of cheap and cheerful. But at least I have one. :] |

I'm performing again later this evening at 08:30 this time at my old school. (Which means I'm gonna have to record the Grammy's on ITV2) I'm performing The Saints Are Coming - U2 & Green Day Broken Strings - James Morrison & Nelly Furtado (I'm performing it with the girl Katie I met on sunday's performance, we've been hanging out a lot since sunday) and then Everybody Hurts at the end again. Hope it goes well, wish me luck again.

The Nimrods wrote:I figure Gildy would know thi, how do I convert MIDI into a listenable mp3 for like myspace Depends. Usually I would use some program that can import midi and then export an mp3 or a wav or whatever (and probably assign some VSTi's instead of MIDI soundbanks) like most sequencers/DAWs, or else just set the sound card's record source to Stereo Mix, and press record in some audio recorder program, and then press play on the track. That way's kind of fiddly. |

I am working out how to use the Neve's playback mode. It's cool and all, except the friggin' hard drive doesn't have enough space on it to fit my test session, which is the multitracks from Brian Eno & David Byrne's Help Me Somebody. I was so looking forward to mixing an actual 24 tracks on an actual 24 track analogue desk. Alas no. All I've got is half a kick track, and a hihat. Still, I got the theory down, and I can even patch inserts. Buses I'm rusty on because the returns basically have to go to something, they're not full channels on their own. But it's not too bad on the whole. If I end up recording in this studio, I'll just do what Omar said, and wipe someone's project. After all, if you didn't FTP it off the hard drive, or at least leave a note, you have no right to complain when it goes missing. |

Working on the rest of my demo track, luckily I don't have school tomorrow (blizzard warning, bout 2 feet of snow) so I can finish the whole thing, it's just really tedious programming MIDI without a MIDI keyboard. |

I'm gonna try and get the vocal track down on "Angels" tomorrow, I've been working on it at college, really basic stuff mind.
I'll record a couple of acoustic demos in the afternoon. I've started on another song, "When I Met You". |

Okay, my makeshift recording booth is complete and awesome, using large sticky backed hooks on the frames of by cupboard and door, I hung the two parts of a dual quilt king size duvet with shower curtain loops, in an arrangement that is quick to put up and take down, and isolates my mic from bathroom and laptop sounds, plus deadens most reflections for a proper dry recording. with this crazy ass arrangement, which I will have to photograph tomorrow, I now have all the facilities and equipment I require, the interface seems to be running in much better fashion even with the wireless for some as yet unknown reason, now the only excuse I have left to not record at least several of these demos tomorrow is my laziness. |

I know, because nobody has ever hung duvets to create a temporary vocal booth in their bedroom studios. |

Last night I was rather drunk and got coerced to dress as a cheerleader. It was epic. There are photos.
I'm off to town with some friends in a bit. I never go to town anymore. |

I can't perform tonight :( It's the final night and I'm not well, I think it's just a run of the mill bug but it means i can't perform at tonight's charity thing. Looks like I'm gonna be on the forums for most of the day. |
