Catriona Robbins and Kathleen Bottom, also known as Cat from K.I.C.K.A.R.S.E. and Kamikaze Kate, are sitting having a cup of tea, and talking.Cat : Look. We made a deal at my wedding yeh? You were my maid of honour. I will be Tess's, and she will be yours. We made the deal, Kate, and all three of us were happy with it. You're getting married on the 1st of April, and you haven't set it up .... why not?
Kate : Because she should fucking KNOW I'm getting married, and have called ME asking. She met Alex and newborn Nikki for about two minutes at your wedding, and looked like she couldn't care less if she didn't see them anyway. She's been fucknose where since, and if she even knows I'm up the duff again it'll be because of fucking Hot Topic or whatever. I'd much rather have you or Nick standing behind me, someone who can actually be arsed with me!
Cat looked down at the table, stirred her tea some more and sighed. It was true that Therese aka. Tess Bottom, Cat's younger sister and Kate's older one, was MIA. It had never as much as crossed Cat's mind that Tess couldn't be bothered to keep in contact, she just thought that Tess must be busy somehow; KamiKate, however, thought nothing else of her, and was trying to work out how to approach her. "Hey Tess, I'm getting married, will you be my maid of honour?" Impossible. "Do you remember that deal we made in the summer?" She wouldn't. As if Tess would care if she did! Kate had always thought that Tess looked down on her .... but at the same time, Cat thought that Tess was on Kate's side, and had always been far more interested in Kate's bitchiness than Cat's settling down.Cat : Look. The three of us made an even bigger promise - never to separate, never to do to each other what Mum did to us. You can't break that. Tess will feel the same.
Kate was cornered. When their mother had chosen taking drugs over taking care of her three girls, Cat, Tess and Kate had taken care of each other, and promised that the three girls would always be there for each other no matter what. Kate could not break that.Kate : OK - I'll give her a call.
Cat : Attagirl!
Cat was pleased, but also, like Kate, unsure of what Tess would say.Kate : But don't you think she's a bit weird now? Like she was all weird at the wedding.
Cat : She's always been weird. So have I. So have you. Deal with it.
Kate thought her oldest sister so innocent these days. Kate had seen what Cat hadn't .... she was sure that Tess was high on something that day. Their second biggest promise was never to touch illegal drugs, never to even smoke a cigarette. If Tess had broken that, there would be trouble. And you don't make trouble with Kamikaze Kate.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the pub, also drinking tea ....Bikki : Jimmy's moved to England.
Sophy : Ooh, is he near Frome? Good, we can keep an eye on him!
Bikki : No, he's in London. About 90 minutes' drive at Sophy-Cat speed.
Sophy : And don't you wish that was Bikki speed! ;) Anyway. How about we go and see your Jimmy?
Bikki : That depends who "we" is.
Sophy : Us two. With your kids. But you're coming in one of my cars, I'm not looking stupid in a fucking Lancia. And you're not going without me.
Bikki wasn't sure this was a good idea. Jimmy and Sophy never exactly saw eye-to-eye.Bikki : Erm .... why!?
Sophy : Let me count the reasons. One. You slowly drive a Lancia which would explode on the way, I drive solid 911s way better than you. Two. There are three kids and only two of you, and I, a more experienced parent than either of you, can help. Three. If Jimmy's taking drugs, you can't handle it and start banshee-wailing - I, however, use his constant nudity as a map as to where my heels should kick until he screams louder than you. Four. Ditto if he says a bad word against J.Firecracker. Five. You couldn't break the news that Freyja's got that thing she's got for the life of you, if you tell me what it is ....
Bikki : OK, you can come, I get it!
Sophy : You don't sound sure. I know what you're thinking.
Bikki hated thinking too much around Sophy. She could read Bikki's mind like an open book. And right now, Bikki was thinking of Jimmy and Sophy. How would they get on? Sure, there were plenty of little reasons why Sophy should be there, but still one VERY big reason why she shouldn't. Sometimes, Bikki felt like she had to choose one or t'other. It was difficult enough when it was Jimmy vs. Joshy, boyfriend vs. best friend - but boyfriend vs. sister was so much worse. She hated the whole idea, relationships should not be about choosing between lovers and friends, or lovers and family, or even in Jimmy's case, lovers and drugs. Even worse - Timo and Freyja, and to an extent Brygida, were in the middle of all this.
She was looking forward to going to London, but also dreading it. Why should she be dreading it? As the old adage goes - "why can't we all just get along?"Edited by user 04 March 2010 01:27:48(UTC)
