There's some very sad news out of New York this morning. Type O Negative vocalist/bassist Peter Steele has died. He was 48 years old. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed though Mistress Juliya, who broke the story on her Twitter page early this morning, wrote that heart failure was the culprit after she had spoken with TON guitarist Kenny Hickey. You can read the full story at the following location: http://www.roadrunnerrec...le&newsitemID=138526

Obviously this is a huge loss for the metal community. Peter had one of the most distinctive and powerful voices in all of music, and his appreciation for dark humor was (from my perspective anyway) quite refreshing when compared to the litany of metal bands who take themselves way too seriously. I will miss Peter Steele, his talent and his humor. He was a unique personality in a world of posers and copycats.

Fuck :S I quite liked a bit of Type O Negative. And he also didn't take himself too seriously, which is always good in an over-serious world of music.
Awards (stroking myself and thinking I'm superior):
@Chaos awards:
Best Band - Mind
Best Album - Shattered Fairytale by Mind
Technical Ecstasy - Jason Smith (x3)
Best Solo Male - Jason Smith
Birdies:
Best Producer - Jason Smith

I'm in the middle of a TON marathon (having just started October Rust, man Love You To Death is a great, great song) in tribute of the big man. He had a fantastic voice, but most of all that stands out is just his humour, a gloriously dry, self-deprecating chap in both lyrics and interviews (and from all accounts in person as well).

Yeah, I'm quite disappointed that I'll now never get to see Type O Negative. Since starting to listen to them on hearing about his death (the confirmation by his pal Evan Seinfeld was what made me think this was more than another hoax) I've been reminded just how good they were, but also how much they changed over the years. I mean just go back and listen to Slow, Deep & Hard.
