What are the worst support/opening bands you have ever seen? I started this because I am going to see Blink 182 (for nostalgia sake) in August, and they have just announced that they are bringing Twin Atlantic and some other garbage, which has pissed me the fuck off.
The worst I've seen were:
The Big Pink supporting Muse The Noisettes supporting Muse Lauren Harris supporting Maiden Cathedral supporting HIM (this was around 6 years ago and thus I refuse to be judged) Enjoy Destroy supporting Alter Bridge Hot Leg (with that gimp from the Darkness) supporting Alter Bridge
Im sure there are a lot more, Ill come back when I think of them |

Rick Astley - He supported Peter Kay recently at the MEN Arena, not good, Peter Kay on the other hand was good. |

Fuck your youth, Cathedral are utterly amazing! I've seen some cracking support bands play. Send More Paramedics blew the exceedingly dull, crappy Avenged Sevenfold off the stage by showing them how mixing metal and hardcore SHOULD be done. First ever gig I went to had Electric Wizard supporting Cathedral. Earth supporting SunnO))) was awesome. Sepultura supporting Motorhead. Clutch supporting Motorhead. Mind you, I only went to those two gigs to see the support! Stampin' Ground supporting Anthrax was a great one. As for bad ones, they are less easy to remember I've got to admit, I do my best to forget the pish support. I remember seeing a band called Hiding Place or Hidden Place, something like that, they were bloody dull. Don't remember who was the headliner that time though. Seen plenty of boring local bands whose names you don't even remember while they are playing. But yeah, most support bands I see aren't so much bad as they are just unmemorable, boring and mediocre |

Gigs I've been to with support better than headliner - InMe (supporting Sugarcoma) Ash (supporting The Darkness) You Me At Six (supporting Paramore)
Worst support acts I've seen - The Twang (supporting James) Turin Brakes (supporting James) Ciara (supporting Britney Spears)
Most of the time, it's sort of 'meh, they're good, I might listen later' and I've forgotten the band name by the time I've got home. |

I quite like The Twang. I've heard a couple of songs of theirs, which I've forgotten the names of. |

I've seen some cracking support bands in my time as well.
Saw Annihilator supporting Trivium and they absolutely upstaged the little shits, they were properly sensational
Went to see Funeral For A Friend years ago, when they were on their first album...supported by an unheard of Bullet For My Valentine who tore the place apart.
Turisas thumping Lordi (of course)
Five Finger Death Punch being well better than Dimmu Borgir (I went specifically to see 5FDP)
Unearth supporting Parkway Drive (place totally emptied when Unearth were finished, it was class)

I also have to say that when I saw RHCP in 2004 it was supposed to be the greatest gig I had ever seen, my favourite band and all that...and whilst they were outstanding, in terms of getting the crowd bouncing, and really into the show, N*E*R*D were surprisingly good, and a strange choice of support lol |

Yeah, I couldn't really name many specifically terrible support bands. I saw Mastodon supporting Tool and I thought that was pretty terrible. They're a band that do not sound like I would want a band called Mastodon to sound like, and also do not suit playing somewhere the size of the SECC, so that was perhaps my least favourite support band that I can name.
On the flip side I've seen some surprisingly cool support bands. There was that time we saw Porn, Flipper, Big Business and then the Melvins, at a time at which I had not even really heard the Melvins. Also, Sunn O))) & Boris, supported by Earth, then Boris, then Sunn O)))... Keeping it all in the family. Oh, and last time I saw Sunn O))), bong were pretty awesome. Oh, and Robert Fripp doing Soundcapes before Porcupine Tree, which I'm pretty sure more than half the audience was bored to tears by (including everyone else in my unusually large party).
And on some occasions, the support band was notably better than the headliners. Oxbow presents Love's Holiday supporting Isis was astonishing, while Isis were by-the-numbers. People didn't know what had hit them. Oxbow have that effect. Same venue, Torche supporting Pelican, somewhat hampered by the sound of the Oran Mor, but mostly just by how friggin' cool Torche are. |

Suffocation supporting DevilDriver was amazing and it pisses me off that it wasn't the other way around.I actually went with my guitar teacher and we didn't wanna see DD so we went to the bar area and talked with Mike Smith and Terrance Hobbs, it was amazing. |

Well, in an attempt to trump everyone, I've been to a show where both the opener and the headliner were so abysmally bad it's practically impossible to gauge which one was worse.....
Whitechapel, opening for Job For A Cowboy, worst gig in recent memory.

Whitechapel with Unearth were hideous, and the lead singer kept throwing water at me cos I kept throwing him the middle finger...banter lol...and JFAC supporting Lamb of God in February...well the less said the better tbh |
