Who’s that girl?

Here in 2010 it seems there are only two types of people: those familiar with LuLu, and those who are asking “who is this LuLu I keep hearing about?” Her hit single “Are You Ready To Go?” is simultaneously top 40 on six different world charts, and yet her seeming meteoric rise to fame over the past few months belies the years she spent working as a hired waitress while trying to break in as a performer but being told by record labels that she was “too serious and theater” and by theater people that she was “too pop and playful”.

The Single

It was love at first listen. One listen and that was it. During the first chorus of LuLu’s “Are You Ready To Go?” I adopted it as my personal theme song and sent the link to my favorite DJ and my closest friends with the words: “This is my new favorite artist. I have no clue how to describe what she’s doing.”

“Are You Ready” is a futuristic track reminiscent of Annie Lennox, with what sound like robotic cheerleaders clapping in the background, LuLu reminds us of the difference between art and entertainment. The track creates a reflective platform for its own meaning. Art is something that costs the artist, but which may be “worth what I give up”, if “I could stand up mean for the things that I believe”. Starting here adds sincerity to what might otherwise be misinterpreted as merely a slightly over the top retro pop-performance.

The extremely catchy lyrics make the song fit into the skin of those angry, sexy, brave artist types among us like instant and renewable anthems.

Infectious beat, catchy lyrics and quality make “Are You Ready To Go?” a winner in the pop world.

OOC : On a side note - good starter roleplay, but that bit was awful. If you're new, act new. Nobody knows who you are, so don't pretend they do. Truth. People who think they're the shit when they've only just walked in the door are really annoying. I mean, sure, advertise yourself, but don't pretend you're 'famous'.

Alicia: I think your an amazing talent. people can be very snobbish about pop music so don't take it to heart if people critisize you.
