Dormant Fusion is a five-piece group from Cambridgeshire, England led by Damien Smith, younger brother of the famous Jason Smith, lead singer of prog metal band Mind. Unlike this progressive, epic sound used frequently by his sibling, Dormant Fusion incorporates hardcore punk into a heavy metal and ambient mix. It’s this ambient sound which gives away the fact that Jason is the producer behind all this, making sure everything goes together behind the scenes. “My bro does do a lot of work for us. He always said we have potential, but now we’re ready to see whether he’s right.” says Damien. By doing this, you truly get the feeling that a band like Dormant Fusion are determined. “I wouldn’t say I’m jealous of Jason. Okay, maybe a little, but still he’s my brother, and I’d love him whatever, man.” The group was formed in the streets of the Arbury, known for its crime and violence in the area. Drummer Matt Nayler claims “I think our music has helped us deal with the troubles in the Arbury. Well, apart from Damien, who’s filthy rich now. It’s a way to escape.”

They have announced plans to tour with Mind next year on a yet untitled tour that Mind are set to do, as well as being open for other opening slots that are available. On the upcoming releases they plan to make, guitarist Leo Ricardo stated “We are gonna release an album in the near future, of all our favourite songs we’ve written over the past few years.” As well as that, he added “We’ll probably do a couple of split demos with Mind as well, if they let us! It’s a bit like a little kid asking his brother if he and his friends can play with his games.” This won’t be the first time the two bands have toured. Before Mind became well known, Dormant Fusion regularly supported Mind at little clubs and pubs dotted around Cambridgeshire. Their lyrics are mostly based around modern culture, rather than the fantasy and sci-fi lyrics of Mind.

Damien Smith – Vocals
Leo Ricardo – Lead Guitar
Mark McMahon – Rhythm Guitar
Tom Merrick – Bass Guitar
Matt Nayler - Drums

To try and build a fan base whilst they record their album, Dormant Fusion is releasing a single called Haxxors. “This song is based around how websites such as 4chan and other message boards can be linked to school shootings, provoked by boredom and revenge.”

Haxxors (4:02)
Produced by: Jason Smith
Written by: Damien Smith, Leo Ricardo
Music by: Dormant Fusion

The song builds up with a sludgy, slow and very heavy riff in an empty background. The rhythm guitar plays a couple of notes, that will become the main riff, except in a toned down and slower manner. It all fades out quietly, and then the drums bring the song into full fruition. No guitars are present for a few seconds, and then the loud main riff, along with a funky bassline comes crashing in. For the verse, the guitars drop out, leaving that brilliant bass at work. Whilst a funky bassline mixed with screaming may sound weird, it’s executed pretty well here. For the chorus, the main riff is played over strained and barked singing. Once it reaches the bridge of the song, everything goes quiet, except that first intro riff, which is played faster and quietened down to mix with the tempo that the bass was at. The singing here is quiet, like the transition commonly found in a lot of System of a Down songs. It then bursts into the chorus for the final two times, before playing a fast, speed metal riff and ending.

Lyrics:

Fuck it, this just will not do,
I defend myself; I’m not friends with you,
If you think that I’ve left you running,
I tell you man, you’ve another thing coming,

Anonymous, you may remain,
But in this world, only one will reign,
Drawing blood, I will create,
A perfect world, but you’re too late!

Malnutrition, face of creation,
Leeching humans, in jubilation,
I hate you, I hate you,
I hate you all,
I hate you, disobey you,
I fucking hate you all!

Now return back to the news,
I cannot win, I cannot lose,
Mentality, breaking apart,
Slowly breeding, enduring heart,

But now my insanity may have snapped,
For you, there is no turning back,
You bully me, I bully you,
Déjà vu? Déjà vu!

Malnutrition, face of creation,
Leeching humans, in jubilation,
I hate you, I hate you,
I hate you all,
I hate you, disobey you,
I fucking hate you all!

On the outside, I feel outwards,
A void of desolation,
Crawls inside,
On the outside, I am dangerous,
Yet in my head I am,
In my head I am,
In my head,
I AM GOD!

Malnutrition, face of creation,
Leeching humans, in jubilation,
I hate you, I hate you,
I hate you all,
I hate you, disobey you,
I fucking hate you all!

Malnutrition, face of creation,
Leeching humans, in jubilation,
I hate you, I hate you,
I hate you all,
I hate you, disobey you,
I fucking hate you all!

Go!

It's great to see a new band with such potential! In the future, would you guys be willing to tour with us?
-Eric Quillington
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis

(Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk)

Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist
Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo

Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles

(Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.)

Eric Quillington (Deceased) - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano, Primary Lyricist
Matt Roberts - Bass
Greg Oldson - Drums, Backup Vocals, Secondary Lyricist
Amelia Florentine - Keyboards, Piano, Lyricist, Backup Vocals

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."

You want cover art and track listings, plus timings? We've got it! More info about the tracks to be released soon.
We have, very originally, named the album Dormant Fusion.
UserPostedImage

1. Eclectic Electric (2:35)
2. Sex Scandal (3:17)
3. ERROR (4:39)
4. Push it, Pull it (2:05)
5. Haxxors (4:02)
6. Spudgun Madness (4:21)
7. Brothers of Cimmerian (With Jason Smith) (3:59)
8. Tuesday Mourning (6:01)
9. Forlorn (1:57)
10. Bloody Jubilee (5:24)
11. All Fall Down (3:48)
12. Death Waters + Hidden Track “Tyson” (13:37)

These songs are a mixture of murky, moody alternative songs and fast-paced hardcore nuggets. As we said, we will tell you more about the tracks all in due time. Haxxors isn't an actual single, it's just to prepare you for the album. The first real single is going to be Brothers of Cimmerian, a song which me and Jason wrote back in secondary school. Enjoy looking at the names.

Death Waters

On top of these valleys and hills,
Lay a lone figure, standing pale and still,
A guardian of the shadows, a figure of doubt,
Manipulator of darkness, inside out.

He guards the Death Waters.

Eternally, he stands and waits,
For a day when the universe is free of hate,
Naively waiting, without motion,
He watches these silent oceans.

As he guards the Death Waters.
