Never mind forkboy, he's just a bitter old cunt. :P You might want to check out bands like JUDAS PRIEST, early MANOWAR, WARLORD, THIN LIZZY and late 1980s CLOVEN HOOF.

At the moment them,Poland, and of course Canada are my favorite metal countries. Do you happen to like Dissection? I think they're amazing, like the best black metal band ever. Dissection was one of the first black metal bands I listened to. I think their music is amazing, however the title of best black metal band to me definitely goes to Immortal. Demonaz definately knows how to write, but I think John's lyrics were more intelligent and (for lack of a better word) amazing. Don't get me wrong, Immortal are cool, but I think Dissection are a bit better due to the fact that Immortal has written over 9000 songs about winter, and Dissection has (in my opinion) alot more differentiation. |

Well there's all those old mainstream metal bands you might like but I don't want to lead you down that path. Listen to the first 4 Metallica albums, Megadeth's Rust in Peace and Peace Sells, and if you can handle it Opeth's Blackwater Park. Fuck yes!! What an album. Lately my listening is all over the place. Been listening to a lot of Black Dahlia Murder as usual, as well as my standard diet of Necrophagist, Death, Mastodon, Opeth and others, but also some black metal for a change (never been that into it before). You might remember I asked for some BM reccomendations a while back. Well I bought Mayhem's "Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" and although I've given it a good go, I just cannot get into it all. I also bought "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" (sic) by Emperor, which is epic, but I had expected that anyway. And I bought "Isa" by Enslaved.....fucking amazing!! Thanks to forkboy for that tip, it is a properly stunning album, lost count of how many times I've listened to it now. |

Of late, I've been getting into Textures, Echoes of Eternity and Sinergy. I suggest you to check Textures if you like Meshuggah or Gojjira, EoE if you like female-fronted goth metal, but good and Sinergy for just trad heavy metal really. |

Been listening to some of Ihasahn lately. Good stuff, though no Emperor.
As for Textures, nice first album, far too metalcorey after that. |

I'm still enjoying Twilight. No, not that Twilight, the band Twilight. Well there's about 50 bands called Twilight, I mean the Southern Lord one obviously. |

Since I know forkboy also has a thang for the lovely band PLACE OF SKULLS, here's a review of the new one that's supposed to come out next month: http://www.themetalregister.com...-a-dog-returns%E2%80%9D/And a "trailer" (for lack of a better word):
Going by the excerpts this should be massive. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about an album. Victor's a top bloke, had a good time with him at Roadburn. Can't wait to see them playing in October and November.

Aj wrote:linkin park are so good!! I actually read an interesting blog post about Linkin Park this morning, a rather amusing one pointing out just how samey Linkin Park songs can be, all following a (very successful) formula. http://www.hometracked.c...ark-songs-look-the-same/Just don't read the comments. As always with blogs, full of the most asinine, moronic rubbish. |

Hah, that Linkin Park blog post actually reminded me of something I saw a little while back, same concept, but with 2 Nickleback songs playing, one through the left speaker and one through the right, check it out.
