8. The Death Chant (1:57) (Interlude/ Tribal) (Smith/ Del Petro)

Bongos and chants galore as this fast paced filler bridges the gap between the beautifully delicate Dandelions, and the folky, unusual Alice of Antioch. There are no lyrics per se. Instead, there are chants and shouts, which should enough to make the listener captivated and awaiting the next song. On top of this song, there is the sound of rain over it. These were taken from those old Zulu war films. Around all of this chanting and rain are the brief sounds of machinery working its way in the background, and it links in perfectly with both songs. The rhythm is catchy and should get you banging on any nearby flat surfaces. Towards the end, you can hear what sounds like a mix between a sigh and a scream welded into the background noise.

Jason: “The album couldn’t just go straight from a mellow intricacy to a pounding metal song just like that, you know? It needed something to link the two songs together; a bridge.”

Lyrics:
[Instrumental]

9. Alice of Antioch (4:51) (Melodic Death Metal/ Experimental Metal) (Smith/ Edwards)

A fuzzy background noise fades into the beginning of the song. Once this is over, it goes straight into a huge, fast and folky riff, similar to Ensiferum. Although the riff is folky, there is no actual folk instruments at this moment, instead just settling for a complicated dual guitar assault. The vocals are double tracked and echoed on the choruses, but with a black metal vibe in the verses. During the bridge, Jason vocals are double tracked again, with one set of vocals in a screechy black metal style and the other in a harsh, barked death metal style. Although it is very folky during the choruses, it turns to a funky, yet melodic death metal, polyrhythmic onslaught in the verses. The production of this song is among the best of the album, since it’s both crystal clear and atmospheric at the same time. It has a certain ambience towards it, especially towards the end segment, where Jason keeps mournfully echoing the words “I lost her” until the song fades out and what sounds like whale song playing the final 10 seconds out. It isn’t very noticeable, but the track gets slower as the song drags along. Before the final lines, the riff changes from sprightly and folky to doom-laden and extremely heavy. In the background, you can hear Jason screaming into his pickups. This is mixed in very quietly, so it is audible, but doesn’t get in the way of the actual song itself. In the final whale song part, quiet, Devin Townsend-like arpeggios can be heard, a reprise of sorts from Solar Ghost, to signify the actual demise of this solar ghost.

Jason: “Alice of Antioch was a very, very real person, but also has some relevance in this story. In this part of the story, you find that the solar ghost is actually the spirit from Alice, Princess of Antioch who wanted to kill the keeper of space and time, in a futile effort to enact her revenge on Antioch. Unfortunately, she ends up almost destroying the entire universe, silly bitch. Luckily, the paladin finds a way to destroy this spirit. He enacts a weird spell on the ghost to send her packing her bags back to the grave. The actual song was one of the most fun to produce. There was so many things”

Lyrics:
And I lost her,
The dear love of the ages,
I lost her,
Soaked her in absence,

Question conformity, deadly society,
Please save me now, Alice,
Why did you screw up again?
And I lost her.

For once, I’m in your arms,
A moment will never end,
You’ll rise beneath the clouds,
And through the absent air,

And I lost her,
The dear love of ages,
I lost her,
Soaked her in absence,

This is what I made of you,
A separation will never end,
You’ll sink beneath the waves,
Of the ever present air,

And I lost her,
The dear love of ages,
I lost her,
Soaked her in absence

Question conformity, deadly society,
Please save me now, Alice,
Why did you screw up again?
And I lost her.

One more time, dear Alice,
Let’s make this last serenade eternal,
Once again.

And I lost her,
The dear love of ages,
I lost her,
Soaked her in absence

Question conformity, deadly society,
Please save me now, Alice,
Why did you screw up again?
And I lost her.

I lost her.

10. Human? (The Lullaby and Goodnight of the Cursed Sir Williams the Intact) (5:56) (Industrial Metal/ Black Metal) (Smith/ Del Petro)

Deeply muffled drums crash into the song as the intro, before a flurry of extremely distorted guitar riffs, maybe about 4 riffs at once, come squealing through. That’s why Mind probably won’t be playing this live any time soon. These riffs are layered over each other, but at the same volume, so it sounds extremely chaotic and muffled. It’s at a fast tempo before the lyrics, when it suddenly descends into a different set of riffs, slightly slower, but no less chaotic or heavy. When the lyrics start, they are barely audible over the immense, yet pristine, layers of static noise and ambience over them. This is a good thing, since it is what Mind intended to do with the song. The raw lyrics were purely black metal, with the occasional death grunt here and there. This doesn’t change. In the last segment of lyrics, the muffled scream is so high pitched that if you listen to it at too loud a volume, it would probably break your speakers. The bass present in this song is very complicated, but not as audible as in the other songs on the album, apart from in the mini bass solo around about the 4 minute mark. Speaking of solos, all 4 of the layered guitars play a solo at once towards the end, before the final lyrics. The drums are quite simplistic, but because of everything going on around it, it doesn’t need to be super complicated. Throughout the song, you can faintly hear a harpsichord playing. This adds to the chaos. It ends with every riff gradually dropping out, until only the bass and drum combo is left. It then ends suddenly by a sharp scream.

Jason:”In terms of concept, this song is about the last sane person in the universe being hunted down and killed by the brainwashed of the newly shattered fairytale. He is a sidekick of the paladin, who is in exile on Earth, away from the dream which everyone else is trapped in. Musically, we wanted something to truly represent the chaos, so we made everything as muffled up and indecipherable as we could. It’s a fast paced, Electronica-metal song with guttural screeching. Quite cool, I thought. Imagine a super-aggressive version of The Aeronaut and that’s basically the song here. There are faint hints of bands such as Ministry and Rob Zombie here, mixed with City-era Strapping Young Lad.”

Lyrics:
Until the last lullaby!

Goodnight to you, my dear fellow,
As the bell, it chimes 12,
The fight will begin!,
Yes it’ll begin!

Hah, listen to my last goodbye,
My last goodbye!,
Lullaby!

Hah, listen to my last goodbye,
My last goodbye!,
Lullaby!

Goodnight, adieu, Sir Williams,
The bells chimed past the hour,
Into the unknown,
The unknown!

Hah, fuck it, listen to my last goodbye,
My last goodbye!,
Lullaby!

And tonight,
The sane,
The saints,
Irate,
Irate,
Irate,
Incinerate!,
Goodbye Sir Williams!

Wow, what an insanely awesome track, summarizing what we all think the album is, a shattered fairytale. Great job guys, I gotta admit it's hard to top this stuff.. Now we're ashamed to release our own album..

OOC: BEAUTIFUL RP (Yes beautiful, but not in a gay sort of way lol) Best RP of 2010.

Right now RP is just really pathetic. Which is the reason why I’ve decided to take a break from RP. Some users are what you call bandwagon posters. Unless someone doesn't post you will not see a single post by that person. It's like people are afraid to post or something. It's not that hard just click the freakin "post reply" and it should take less than a minute or 3 the most to make a comment. And It’s always the same people who are breaking the ice..... Which is why I don't reply to certain users. However then i realized it's a never ending cycle. I'm sounding too dramatic but it is the truth. But anyways, once again amazing RP. What I like is that not only is it well written, but it also looks good and easy to read.

OOC: I don't think anyone can top that lol Either way this will be remembered as one of your best RP's and that's something you can be proud of. Not only did you provide interesting descriptions to the tracks but you also provided lyrics, which hardly anyone does on here. Even if it was inspired, the effort is outstanding in the sense not anyone has really taken the time to do this, this year.

My best album RP to date is the "Diary of a Pop Sinner" RP which was very unexpected to a lot of people here. My next RP'are like that but I don't plan on posting them anytime soon, especially now. But either way I wont really post lyrics because most things I write I like to keep personal anyways, but in some cases I will post lyrics. (when i want to stir things up a bit) Notice how carelessly I'm expressing my opinion without giving a shit what other people think ;)

Anyways, i'll stop flooding your thread now lol.

OOC: I think that, with a little effort, anyone could produce something like this. Just put in a little bit each day and it'll pay off. Don't worry about flooding either lol, it'll probably start a new page soon. My lyrics are shitty, but I do enjoy writing them. It just gives me a better feel of what it's like.

Best album Mind's ever released? Definetely. Best album of 2010? Very likely. I've always known that you guys are capable of incredible stuff, and this album validates every idea I had about you guys. After listening to this album, Mind is my new favorite band.
-Eric Quillington

OOC: As everyone else has been saying, this really is amazing. When alot of people post something about a new album on this forum, all they usually put is tracknames and chart positions. It's really refreshing to see someone break away from the normality, and it's obvious that you put a ton of work into Shattered Fairytale. Once again; awesome job, man!
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis

(Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk)

Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist
Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo

Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles

(Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.)

Eric Quillington (Deceased) - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano, Primary Lyricist
Matt Roberts - Bass

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."
