I'm not a huge fan of the comic book, I am more a fan of the comic strip. I'm a big fan of Peanuts, but Calvin & Hobbes is the masterwork in the field. As a kid I read the Scottish comic books like The Beano, sometimes The Dandy, but I found the whole superhero thing kind of dull. There are ideas I like in comic books, but I don't enjoy reading comics. I did like Maus a lot, though I did not finish it. |

I haven't read Mous, I heard it was amazing. I must check it out. I have been reading Alan Moores Swamp Thing Vol. 1. such a great writer! He took a ridicoulous character and gave him all the traits of a great character. Someone who feel for etc. |

Yeah, Maus was bloody brilliant, read that early in the year.
I'm a bit of half-arsed comics fan really. I've read things like Maus, The Watchmen, From Hell (bloody marvellous book that), Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and the first two volumes of The Sandman by Neil Gaiman which is pretty great, and then Alan Moore's run on Marvelman (known in the US as Miracleman for copyright reasons) which a fantastically dark take on a 50s style comic published in Warrior. Kid Marvelman/Johnny Bates is one of the most utterly terrifying villains I've read in a comic.
I've got 24 issues of it on the computer if anyone wants me to upload it. Otherwise Marvel acquired the rights last year so I'm sure trade paperbacks will be released at some point in the future. |

My friend keeps telling me to read Gaiman's Sandman. I think I will. But I really want to read From Hell. Dark stuff! |

Both are absolutely fantastic. Well, I've only read 2 of the 12 volumes of The Sandman, but it is really well right, looks lovely, and the first one has a camero from John Constantine. |

I'm a serious Otaku. If you don't know what that means, then you don't read Manga. I like it because good manga are all about plot and character development, as well as having some of the coolest pictures of all time. Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, and D. GrayMan are my bread and butter. |

All about character development you say? I don't know, I would say manga is all about absurdly stylistic action, the Japanese equivalent of non-sequiturs and people with impenetrably weird mix-and-match-out-of-Western-archetypes personalities. |

That's hardly unique to manga though. What you're describing is just competent storytelling in any genre. |
