I also have not seen Get Smart, although I have heard of both it and Mel Brooks ;) Considering the most famous comedy acts of the time, and most time for that matter, I must disagree. |

Of their time, yes...of all time, most certainly not. Someone throwing something on the floor and then booting the guy who bends down to pick it up in the arse is not funny anymore. Its kinda like trying to use two bits of flint to light your cigarette...great innovaton at the time (lighting fire this way), but you wouldn't think it so great now. |

For example, the three stooges.... While trying to get a job as actors they are kicked out of a studio. Moe gives a short hopeful speech while Curly is seen messing with an orange. After the speech is over Curly says "Yea, if at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking till you do suck seed." and he resumes sucking the orange. So, this being why I put it in the serious debate, with the things you mentioned and things like I mentioned they influenced whats around today. Is it still drop dead funny anymore, maybe not but influential as ever? I think so. |

I personally do not find that form of extreme slapstick to be funny at all. It seems a little...primitive? If that's the right word. |

I was just thinking of a better serious debate, instead of old time comedy pairings and what you think of them, would be the effect they (and later brands of comedy) had away from the comedy and movie industry, say in the case of Charlie Chaplin (whom I was just reading up on) bringing comedic releif during turmoil such as WW1 and later on, comedians helping bringing serious issues to light. Something like that...anywhoos... |

I never could understand how millions of people could find something hilarious and another could claim to not even feel the urge to grin at the same thing. |

Not that I find it hilarious but I did have a quiet chuckle... :D |

Slap-stick can still be funny. But entire acts which are based upon slap-stick are not funny.
I dunno, the sort of comedy I really like is stuff starting with Peter Cook, going on to Spike Milligan, Monty Python, 80s shows like The Young Ones (a perfect example of slap-stick that I enjoyed, if only for the ridiculousness of it all), Alexei Sayle's Stuff, various things like that.
Just seems more intelligent and thus more amusing. |

Lano and Woodley would be the exception to this. |
