Somerset Bissell has always been the most 'neglected' member of Moronic Changeling. Kaethe, the lead, the German/Dutch heiress to the van Mouschi dynasty. Silly, but beautiful, both in her vocal range and her looks. She was also the lead of K.I.C.K.A.R.S.E. - and, of course, well-known for her mashed potato obsession. Nick, the drummer, the pride of Bristol. Talented to extremes. We had Nick the Madbird, Nick the ninja, Nick the straitjacketed mental patient, Nick with her broad southwestern accent. Both of them talented, beautiful, and batshit insane; all things that bassist Summie is, but she seemed to just 'get on with it', and let her bandmates take all the glory.
That's not to say that she doesn't have a charm of her own. For example -
Shown here performing the classic 'Wuthering Heights', Somerset's dancing has a .... hypnotic feel about it. And her voice has just plain gone to waste; she could have backed up Kaethe, maybe even taken lead vocals herself on some songs. Although Moronic Changeling have been known for their big live shows, Summie has never sung or danced on stage. Why not!?
"Ability, I have," she admits, "personality, I don't. Kaethe and Nick, they have a stage presence which I don't. They are absolutely full of energy .... I always wished I had that, but I'm just so - moderate."
This is not to say that she has never been in the spotlight. The late Rayne Berry, a former drummer in Moronic Changeling during Nick's hiatus, was never one to stay out of the gossip columns - and before his relationship and then engagement with now-deceased GirlSpice girl May Hardtime, he had a short-lived affair with Summie. "I had children with Rayne, and they're the best thing that ever happened to me. I can't have kids now, and I couldn't be happier that I didn't miss the boat!"
So, now we've had a short bio - why is Somerset the one to call time on the band? And why is Raven so important?
"I'll start with the second question," she mutters. "We've had a few memorable guitarists. Justin Jenkins of course, our second guitarist after Kaethe - both husband and wife were memorable, but for VERY different reasons." Yes, we know, the Kettlechip has been playing for 20+ years and STILL can't play a B chord. "And not forgetting Lukey and Jimmy, our current superstars! But Raven Comatose, or Raven Storme as she was then .... she's a star. When Raven walked into a room, you looked at her, and when she sung or played, you listened. She shone like a star .... she still does. Her post-Moronic career was stellar too, I'm so happy to be one of the people to have launched it.
"The first bit - needs explaining." Never a truer word spoken. "I'm 39. I have children. Kaethe has a son too. Jimmy can sign up other bands, Lukey is doing other work already, and Nick and KamiKate are probably planning some trouble. Raven - was a driving force. Even after leaving the band, she was our public figure. She'll always be part of us. The original seven - us three, Jimmy, Kirsty, Justin and Raven.
"But still, Moronic Changeling will never end. Even if we do split - and it's not certain yet - we will always be the foremothers of madcore!" Edited by user 26 August 2010 10:30:57(UTC)
