Never heard All That Remains, but I'm assuming that appeals to mainstream really well due to the people I know who listen to them.
I'd say I'm open to all genres except for some "out-there" genres, that being said.. I love metal and all of its sub-genres.

I saw Slayer, Megadeth, and Testament in August

Gonna go see Blackguard and Kamelot this month

Also, why is Linkin Park and All That Remains being discussed here? What have they ever done that is metal? They don't even consider themselves metal

I listen to mainly Between the Buried and Me and Mastodon. I've bought other metal albums and I love Sabbath(fan of Iommi, Ward, Butler and Ozzy). Recently I've gotten into GWAR and Belathor.

So one year on, this basically still applies. The only new metal album I can think of that I've listened to in 2011 has been VII: Född Förlorare by Shining. Oh wait, no, Sever the Wicked Hand by Crowbar came out this year too. Oh & a quick check tells me that Varg put out a new record which I need to hear.

Regardles, the point basically remains, I am in a position of ignorance when it comes to most new metal. So hook me up with some recommendations. Try sell me on this shit again. The odder-ball & more "out-there" the better.
