Back in 2009! With 13 singles (including two number ones), four albums, two compilations behind her, Japanese pop superstar Hitomi Hayashi has returned. The spring will kick off with a ten-date arena tour of Japan, followed by the recording of a debut English album to be released worldwide.

Hitomi Hayashi (林仁美 Hayashi Hitomi*) born May 12, 1984 in Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, Japan), is a Japanese singer who rose to prominence as a CM model in Taiwan and Hong Kong. She released the first of her three singles “Hi Low” in the summer of 2006, which earned her a good dose of star power in not only Taiwan and Hong Kong, but in her home country of Japan as well. Her first album included the three singles, and enjoyed moderate success throughout Asia. Later that year, she embarked on a 32-city tour in Japan and Taiwan, well surpassing her mark for ticket sales. In late 2007, Hitomi released her acclaimed follow-up "This Is Hitomi," which spawned successful singles including the #2 hit "Winter Story," a song about the growing suicide trend among youths in Japan. Also in 2007 she took the job playing as the recurring character “Ritsuko” on the Japanese telenovela-style drama “Alone in Shinjuku.”

In a press conference on Friday, the 27th of June, Japanese pop recording artist sat down with Japanese music show HMV to fill us in about her long-awaited fifth studio album.

"Ten all-new tracks are being worked on at the moment." says Hayashi. "The album is called Love: Undercover, and i'd like to say it will be released sooner than later, though I can't give an official date right now." Hayashi then spoke about how she'd been working with top producers such as Hitvision and Wayne Williams. The album is coming along rather well, for all those that are interested. My biggest announcement, however, is that Love: Undercover is likely going to be my last Japanese album for the next year or so. Following it's release and an imminent tour, I'm going to be heading to Europe to start working on my first English album. Exciting!

As of Wednesday, July 15th, Hitomi Hayashi went into to an oral surgery clinic outside of her hometown of Saitama, Japan to undergo a procedure to remove four third molars (wisdom teeth). The Japanese pop singer is currently resting, and the healing process seems to be going according to plan. If all goes well, Hitomi should be back to normal and will head into the studio to wrap up recording on "Love: Undercover" by next Thursday.

Hitomi Hayashi is set to return mid-April with her first exclusively English single. The yet unnamed track, produced by DJ Kyoko, is expected to hit the airwaves accompanied by a two-disc maxi single featuring a special DVD. A complete English album has not been ruled out, and the Japanese pop idol is ready to kick off her largest tour yet this summer. Hayashi, who has had health issues over the last year, spoke to J-WAVE radio last Tuesday, and says she is in the best shape she has been in among the recent years.
