Any fellow manga fans around these here TRSG shores?
I'm a relative newcomer to the genre, having rubbished it for years, but a long time friend and a university friend convinced me to give it a shot a few months back and I find it incredible now. Still getting used to reading (most of them) from back to front and right to left, but it's all part of the fun :D
Anyhow, what's other people's favourites? My two absolute favourites are Death Note and Hellsing.
What amazes me, especially with Death Note, is how strong the characters are. Like with Light Yagami, he's clearly some sort of sociopathic megalomaniac, but there's a part of you that still wants him to get away with it, because his character is portrayed so well that you can feel for him. Also, the mystery around L just makes the reader frustrated, and dying to find out who he is. In fact, the only character I laugh at is Ryuk. He's almost like a "special" dude after the first few chapters, following Light and trying to be part of what he's doing. |

I've just started reading Bakuman. It's by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Obha (the guys who did Death Note) and it's really quite good, despite the fact that there's no fantasy elements to the story at all, just some dudes writing a manga |
