D'Amour is better known as the multi-instrumentalist behind Shadowmachine, who's debut album 'Machine Music' fared relatively well on the charts, with the single 'Palpitation' reaching #13 on the Top 20 Singles Charts. Gray is a more obscure musician known for his radical changes in style in each of his releases, his debut mixtape ZMIX blending art rock, prog, extreme metal, and pop rock sensibilities while his debut full length, 'Calm Storm,' was a relaxing, semi-autobiographical ambient rock album written during a cross Canada roadtrip. These two men are both versatile and talented, and it only seemed right to them that their paths would cross eventually. "I think we both have a passion to create music for the sake of creating music," says Gray, "and I think that this is going to be a very interesting little project." The project, ZTO ("I guess it stands for 'Zander-Trent-Overdrive' if you want an explanation for the name," says Gray) is described by the two as "an industrial monstrosity that will sound like Skinny Puppy, Merzbow and Slayer fighting Lou Reed, J. Mascis and Bon Iver in a no-holds-barred death match taking place in an abandoned steel mill." With a release already in the works, D'Amour is only willing to describe what it will be like with a few words: "equally cathartic, manic, depressive, sedated, melancholy, and invigorated. The record will be me and Zander baring our souls and spewing out everything we need to get off our chest. We hope it's something everyone can relate to." Gray states that ZTO is not necessarily a band, but a project, and that Shadowmachine and Zander's solo career are still alive and well. With two men such as this coming together and sharing ideas, there is no doubt that they will be a force to be reckoned with. ZTO will not tour. ZTO is a moniker that will be used to describe whatever music these men decide to put out. ZTO is the combined creative forces of two men with a passion, and it would be ill advised to discredit or dismiss them. More info will come soon. - Love, Z&T
