Every artist or group tries their hands at a cover at least once in their career. Some artists view it as a cop out - you don't have to put the immense amount of effort that it takes to write a song into it, so it's any easy way to add another track to your album. Others view it as a way to show their music prowess - if an artist or group can cover a song that is outside of their genre, then they suddenly become a much more diverse group, proving that they can think outside of the box and that they're not confined to one type of music. But for Destinee&Adele, this particular cover goes a lot deeper for them.

"Anybody who knows us never asked why we were doing this cover. When we told them, they all just nodded and laughed, as if they had been waiting for us to do it ever since we started singing," Adele Gillet said. "It's a song that means a lot to us and the movie it's from is one of our absolute favorites. We know it's a cover, but it seems to be almost written for us. Every word describes how we feel right now, especially now that we're part of the music world. It really is just paradise to us."

"We're not trying to break down any music barriers with this cover, or anything like that," Destinee Girard added. "We understand that we're not the first person to cover this song, and we certainly won't be the last. But we're very attached to the sentiments and emotions of the song. I don't know about the other people who have covered it, but I can tell you that we will be singing every word genuinely."

A cover, of course, is an interesting choice for your final single before releasing the album that it's on, but we've already discussed and accepted the fact that Destinee&Adele are no normal singers. They've already managed to dominate a pop-infested chart with their alternative shoegazing type music, and they're sure to do it again. At the beginning of Destinee&Adele's career, even they didn't think that they would last long as they struggled to find the right sound to fit the type of music they wanted to make. But now that they have indeed found the correct piece of their musical puzzle, they are sure to go as far as they want to.

Title: Pure Imagination
Cover by: Destinee&Adele (D. Girard & A. Gillet)
Written by: Leslie Bricusse & Anthony Newley
Released: November 6th, 2013
Album: Mourning Eyes
Length: 2:43
Label: Liberation/Nomad Records

SOUNDS LIKE:
Smoking Popes - Pure Imagination

Destinee
Adele
Both

Come with me and we'll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see
Into your imagination
We'll begin with a spin
Traveling in a world of my creation
Look and see

We'll defy explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it

Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it

There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination

Living there, you'll be free
If you truly wish to be

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it

Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?

There's nothing to it

There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination

Living there, you'll be free
If you truly wish to be

Within the first few lines of the song, it's already obvious that both Destinee and Adele are having a wonderful time singing one of their favorite songs. Their voices sound truly happy, as if they're experiencing every emotion that the words convey - and they very well may be. Being known in the music world has admittedly been one of the greatest time for Destinee&Adele, and they're enjoying every minute of it. Throughout the song, they trade lines back and forth, as if both of them were trying to get just as much of the happiness of pure imagination as the other one was. While this does add a beautiful harmony between the both of them when they finally do sing together during the chorus, it also adds a bit of childishness to the song. And if any song should have a sense of child-like wonder to it, it's Pure Imagination. While, of course, the song will always have the musical theatre feel that it had when it was first performed by Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Destinee&Adele put their own spin on the song, giving it a bit more of an indie rock - even a little bit of a punk pop - feeling to the song. There's no denying that this is a Destinee&Adele song. They have a way of making any song their own, even ones that weren't written specifically for them. And that's really the mark of not only a good singers, but good performers: When a song that written without them even in their mind at all sounds like it could be their song.

Destinee: Awwww! Miss. Erica! I'm sorry we made you cry! We'll try to be less... cry-worthy...

Adele: No, we won't.

Destinee: She's right. I'm sorry I lied.

Honor: I think it's awesome that you two have come out on top in a seemingly Urban and Pop crazed world right now but nobody seems to be taking notice of this. I guess maybe it's because you're not all out there like everyone else. Well, I notice so I find that even more amazing about you two. Keep up the great work girls! :)

Destinee: Awwww, thank you, Honor! That means a lot to us. We've come to accept that we're not the norm in music, but that's the way we like it, so don't expect us to change any time soon!

Adele: Yeah... we kind of enjoy being music's red headed step-child.

James Urie: You girls are extremely talented. I really give it up to the both of you because nowadays, its getting harder to break the market as a different type of act other than Urban and pop mainstream type of music and to see you topping charts and your music soaring on the radio is such a breath of fresh air. Its good knowing that another alternative based act other then myself and a few others are still here and still doing well. This cover is excellent, can't wait for the album ladies. Best of luck!

Cassie: Destinee and Adele always look so amazing and happy together. That transpires into the music as well. Like I get how much you two love to do what you do. It comes across so strongly. This is no different. Amazing work as always.

Destinee: Thank you so much, Mr. Urie. We're just trying to be ourselves, and if the public likes it, then that makes it all the more enjoyable.

Adele: Right! We're just so glad that people like you, who are also more part of the alternative genre, are leading the way for people like us. Without people like you, we'd just be floating around in a sea of musical obscurity. So thank you!

Destinee: Thank you so much, Cassie! We really do love everything that we're doing right now. We've never been happier.

Adele: Some people get so wrapped up in chart positions and sales, and we feel like that just makes all artists look bad... We want to prove that there are still artists out there that are making music because they love it. Not for sales or attention.
