Like A Christmas toy is a song recorded by Malaysian-American Indie Folk/Rock/Pop artist Yasmine Kiambang for her debut album Life which was previously named This Is Yasmine . Like A Christmas Toy is to be sent to radios on December 22nd, 2013 . The song was also written solely by Yasmine Kiambang herself . Musically, the single is an Indie Folk and Indie Rock song with elements of Contemporary R&B , while containing cryptic lyrics of violent and destructive themes as a song that ensures her and her partner aren't getting anything for Christmas . " I wanted to do something different for all my fans out there . Even though I don't celebrate Christmas , I figured I could make a song that put a twist on the basics of the whole naughty or nice list and just went with the flow of it . " Though Kiambang wanted a Christmas themed track , her and the producers of the song decided to not go down the Christmas route with the production . " We didn't really think that bells and trumpets and everything would match up with Yasmine's vocals , plus we didn't want to be cheesy about it . It's supposed to be something different compared to your typical Christmas single and we wanted to stick with that . " Says inZane , 1 of the 2 producers who worked on the single . Yasmine then explained how she didn't only want to make a Christmas song but just and everyday song that she could "easily include on her album" without it "seeming all out of place" .
The vocals of the track are sung in a ballad like way , yet the drums of the music give it a faster tempo and a more upbeat feel . Fans could easily recognize the drums of the song from previous works of Yasmine . They seem to be a signature , somewhat letting you know that this piece of art is definitely from her . It's what mainly gives off that Indie Folk feel in all of her songs and the lyrics and guitar showcase the Indie Rock side of her artistry . Just when you hear all of this and get accustomed to the fact that it's jut the same as all of her other songs , right after the lines | Don't think there'll be nothing under the tree this year | 'Cause we're still sleeping like we're lovers | the song goes from the folk inspired drums to Contemporary R&B beats and switches it up as Yasmine goes down the list of all the unhealthy factors in the relationship . Still they don't take over the entire song and steers Like A Christmas Toy into an R&B song . The Indie Rock feel stays as the beats practically fades in and out and are accompanied by the guitar . " I don't know , I was just playing around with the mix master in the studio and next thing I knew , I had the whole beat setup and it actually sounded legit . So I told Yasmine to rip through the chorus just one more time and she did and I played it back and it was ... like , I just started to jam out , snapping and all . [laughs] I was just like , we have to keep that . It really gave the song that push . " Says other producer NinaT .

Honor: It's my faaaaaaavorite Malaysian singer! I love this. I always hate this time of the year because of all the damn 'I can't wait for Santa, let's be together and get warm by the fire, little Sally and Jimmy will get a toy for every girl and boy' type song. Praise old white pedophile Santa you changed it up this year. I'm always a fan of morbidness and destruction so, naturally, I had to like this song. And yes, I can always tell it's a Yasmine song by those drums ;) |

Nadia: This is absolutely beautiful! I think Christmas songs can usually become cliché and cheesy because they always follow the same old pattern, but you really did avoid that completely and managed to come up with something that's both fresh and easy to listen to over the holiday period. Very, very impressive. :) |
