The Sweetest Thing is a 4-track EP by American PBR&B singer Coke from the duo Rum & Coke . Produced by NinaT , Flame 1&2 and inZane , it was released exclusively on December 28, 2014 solely available with the purchase of her fragrance by Gucci entitled Gucci . The EP's packaging contains a fold-out digipak picture sleeve , including advertisement for the perfume and a built in picture booklet with all sorts of lyrics from the songs included .

The EP consists of 4 tracks , three of which are planned to be featured on Rum & Coke's 3rd studio album which is already in the works . 'The Sweetest Thing' is not only used to promote the fragrance but also to give the fans of Rum & Coke a little taste of their new project . The EP also features Coke's cover of "Someone To Call My Lover" by Janet Jackson which many have rumored is remixed and has been given a whole new sound since NinaT is the producer of the track . When asked about what the project in an interview , Coke stated :

" I always talked about how in previous projects I've did in Rum & Coke I never really got the chance to take elements of Aaliyah and Janet and put it all in the music I make , but with this third album I finally am . Since the Gucci fragrance has this really fruity , yet minty , sweet kind of smell , I felt like I should take a song or three from the album that , you know , give off that kind of feeling . We are already working on our third LP , I guess we can call it a concept album for now and so I already had a few love songs recorded that really did fit well with how I interpreted the perfume . The label and Gucci flipped out when I approached them with the idea and so here we are . "

Musically, The Sweetest Thing is an R&B E.P influenced by a number of genres, prominently the Pop , Dance-Pop and Hip Hop style of music known for it's takeover in the 90's and early 2000's . The album contains a few samples from that exact time period as well , one from Tony! Toni! Toné!'s Anniversary on the track Candy Store , another from Aaliyah's Rock The Boat on the track Make You Mine and of course the cover of Janet Jackson's Someone To Call My Lover . Lyrically, the album has a heavy sexual theme attached to it . " I know the sex-themed songs are becoming quite the trend these days , but that's just what the perfume stood for to me . I want people to feel sexy when they smell the fragrance and at the same time really girly . That's why these songs really give off that perfect R&B feel with that side of 'bubblegum' to it a.k.a pop , because it's supposed to be really sexy with a dose of sweetness , like the perfume . " Critics pointed out the fact that though it has a sexual theme , the tracks on the E.P still contain a dose of diversity due to the way she presented them . Some tracks were notably more straightforward , like Make You Mine , while others were on the more figurative side of things , like the verses of Hold Me Close .

"I think I'm best when I'm writing a concept project , because you know , it's easier on me . It gives me a direction to go and as a song writer , I can find a way to go 20 different directions and end up in that one spot every time . My lyrics just are never repetitive and I try my best to make sure of that . Whether it's going in a poetic direction one song and then going a more upfront way on another song . I think that's an important element that a songwriter needs , especially when dealing with a concept album . It really comes in handy , but at the same time could be a curse . No one likes it when you write a whole bunch of different songs on one theme in a non-concept album because then it makes the others look out of place ."
