Concept of “Affection/O’Bryan’s comments on Affection”


Affection was recorded in my Harlem Brownstone basement. I record most of my music there, and my entire debut record was recorded there [The Autobiography of O’Bryan Richmond]. I wrote the song after falling whole heartedly in love with a chick. I was single for five years and didn’t have sex nor was intimate for four of those years. I prefer not to call it celibate because it wasn’t a vow I made not to be intimate until marriage; I was just looking for the right one in my eyes. And out of the blue, unexpectedly I met her and after two weeks we proclaimed our love for one another. Even though we are not together in present day, the bond we has was so strong it was like I was on a high. I never felt that way about a woman in my life. So when I am singing the song, I want the lyrics to translate and transition through my delivery, so that’s why I chose to mellow out the keys and use my voice as an instrument. The love that I had was so deep that I am still intrigued by her, even though she wasn’t good for me and I wasn’t good for her. I want couples to play this song at their wedding, for this to be their “first dance” song. My goal is to have woman loving me for being open to love. My goal is for guys not to be too cool for school and sing this or play this for their girl. Let her know you love her. Let her know your heart.
