Artist: Joe Forde Release Format: E.P./Demo/Digital Genre: Folk Rock, Indie Rock Label: Unreleased Length: 7:35 Producer: Kyle Lange Recorded: November 2013 - December 2013 Linear Notes: “What I possess, seems far away to me, and what is gone becomes reality.” -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust Palooka was an Extended Play by Joe Forde’s band Shangri-La Hentai. Now he's releasing via his birthname. It is his first foray into recorded music after a stint with multiple live bands in his hometown of St. Paul Minnesota. Themes and subject matters in this 3 song cycle range from a number of sources.
Palooka is also a publicly released demo, so to speak, and his attempt to get signed by a label.
Following the death of his wife, Joe Ford was a member of multiple North Dakota punk rock bands, and his connections built during those days have helped him forge this new album.
“It has been a long, long time since I’ve recorded anything, and to be able to record these songs for public consumption is more than therapeutic, it’s fulfilling. The inspirations behind this EP are so many that I could release a compilation of songs that were on my mind while I was writing these songs. Each song follows a sort of story structure, and I would call this very far from a concept release, but each song does have a concept behind it and I hope that anyone who’s willing to look for such a thing finds themselves rewarded in a satisfactory manner.” - Joseph Forde |

1.) Autumn’s Falling on Us Length: 2:38 Linear Notes: “Autumn’s Falling on Us is the track I chose to open Palooka, and one I wrote with the past in mind. It’s a really simple song -haha-, can I say that in my own linear notes? Well anyway, it follows a very simple chord progression, but I think the story it tells should be something that people can take away from it. It’s about a guy who’s coming back to his hometown after years of being away, and now that he’s back with this new woman in his life, he’s got these great expectations of how life is going to go and how people will accept him. The songs after this really act as a response to that, but I guess you could also say this stands for my return to music, and how I feel about it.”This is one of the two songs of Palooka that utilizes electric guitar, and as Forde states in the linear notes, the chord progression is very simplistic. Lyrics: Springs’ shadow looms overhead But that’s never stopped us There’ll be dancing There’ll be friends No shouting nor fuss
Cuz we’re home from the trenches The war of Summer is officially over The bad times are behind us We’ll drink our drinks And party into October
Autumn’s falling Autumn’s falling Autumn’s falling on us And the trees will wilt
The leaves are graying My town smells of decay The lush brown is on display And the prelude is set For the leaves to fall away
Our friends missed us So say the drunken banter And we’re wild and unruly So that when we go out We’ll all scream and shout
Autumn’s falling Autumn’s falling Autumn’s falling on us And the trees will wilt
Autumn’s falling Autumn’s falling Autumn’s falling on us And the trees will wilt And the trees will wilt And we’ll stay
