FaceTime is a song by Russian-American alternative rock singer-songwriter and producer Zayne (Zane Anoshkin) also known as , inZane . The single is his long awaited and highly anticipated debut . It serves as the lead single from his debut studio album , 21st Century Drug . The song was written by Nina Tarantino and was produced by Zayne himself .
FaceTime was at first meant to be written as a rap for Nina Tarantino , known as Rum . She recalled to Radio.com, "I wrote this song while on tour because at the time , the relationship I was in became a long distance one where all communication was calling and texting and tweeting and FaceTime and so I was trying to write a rap about it . It took a few hours to complete but when I was finally done , I looked over it and immediately dismissed it . It was too soft ! [Laughs] What do I look like rapping about FaceTime over some Hip Hop beat with a hard-hitting bass ? I was thinking about giving it away instead of completely scrapping it but I wasn't trying to hurry up and get someone to record it . Since Zayne was our DJ for the tour , he ended up someway , somehow getting a hold of the song while we were just chilling one day . He jumped up saying he loved it and I told him that I was giving it away . Then he practically begged me for the song [Laughs] so I gave it to him . Next thing you know he was in the studio , making it his own with his little guitar , seeing if I liked it . And I LOVED it . So catchy and edgy . I finally got Zayne to record something you guys !"
Zayne told Swide.com that this track posed the biggest forms of communication that this generation uses to not only when they commute but when they just want to express love . He explained: "I feel like everything nowadays is 100% technology . I don't know any couple of today that hasn't used Kik , Snapchat , FaceTime ... or haven't called or sent a text to their girlfriend/boyfriend , so off the back , I knew this song was relatable . I immediately fell in love with song after the second half of the first verse where the forms of communication stood as foreplay . I was just all , 'Damn Nina , you've wrote yourself a hit' ! [Laughs]"
