"Title" is the long-awaited debut album from American singer-songwriter and now producer, Luke Striker. The album was released on September 4th 2014 through his own imprint, Third Strike Records and distributed via Absolute Marketing & Distribution. The record comes over three years since Luke made his debut with his first single, "Sorry Again". During the time of his initial launch, Luke was on his way to becoming the next teen heartthrob. He has the looks, the body and the talent to make any girl a little hot under the collar but things didn't go as planned for Luke and his career. Where dominating male forces within the industry stand today such as Weekend, Hayden, Austin Nimmo, Kato and Dominic Brown is exactly where Luke would be right now if things did not take an unexpected drastic turn.

Luke carved out a unique, rock influenced sound for himself and quickly began to light up the charts with hits such as "Your Conflicted Heart" which featured Jennifer Armstrong, "Come Back Home Someday", "Don't Walk Away", "On My Own" featuring a then relatively unknown Deneil and "Best That I Can Be" while bagging himself a few number ones along the way. With a collection of hits under his belt, many grew suspicious when the release date of his debut album, titled "Overload", was constantly being delayed. For an act that started out in 2011, the "promised" release date of February 2013 was a relief for both Striker and his loving fans. February arrived. Nothing. For weeks, Striker remained out of the public eye and when he finally reared his head he had a LOT to say. Luke ended his relationship with Mercedes Payne over the social media giant, Twitter, for the entire world to see. He then went on to express his distaste towards the majority of his album and that he was having issues with his label, Studio60. The uncharacteristic snappy behaviour lead many to believe that Luke was in some sort of suffering or in a very unfit state of mind.

After over a year out of the public eye, Luke silently released "Overload" as an EP instead of a full length album. It contained all of his singles in one disc alongside an extra track, "Demons In Your Heart". Due to no promotion whatsoever and only being available to purchase through select online retailers, the EP failed to chart almost everywhere. The highest position the EP managed to scraped was a measly #89 in Germany, where Striker has a lot of dedicated fans. Following the poor sales of the EP and showing no interest in re-entering the music world, Luke was dropped from Studio60 and hasn't been heard from until today.

Luke has been silently working on his debut studio album since May 2014, keeping everything low-key and making sure everything is going to plan. Luke has since launched his own label, Third Strike Records, which only he is signed to at the moment. Going down the independent route was admittedly the best option for Luke as he has found himself disagreeing with decisions made by labels in the past and endured many horrific personal experiences during his time in the spotlight. Now, Luke is taking everything in his stride and doing it his own way this time around. With no big budget, marketing campaign or powerful label behind him, Luke Striker may never return to the top of the charts. In fact, he may never return to the charts at all but one thing is for sure - he's finally happy and being the artist he wants to be.

"Title" breaks away from the alternative/soft rock sound that Striker was once famous for and sees him take on a more electronica/PBR&B influenced sound which has grown popular over the last year. Apart from the cover song on the record, all songs were written by Luke with co-writing credits from Deneil Khan on two of them. Production also comes from Khan, English duo Make A Scene as well as Striker himself.

"I've been away for a long time and many people wondered where the hell I went and what was going on behind closed doors. I can see why they were worried and why alarm bells were ringing. I used to be a very successful act; at all the events, travelling the world and topping the charts. It was great for a while but things were starting to sour and I was never one to broadcast my business in public so I kept things to myself which probably didn't help situations to be honest. I was gearing up to release my album. It was over two and a half years in the making and by the time it came around to releasing it, I had grown tired of the material and was mentally tired too. I had lots of successful singles, a big string of them so I was off promoting them and barely having any time to myself...and that was before touring and promoting an album! I was a little burned out and I just could face more pressures. I was also in a relationship at the time and the stress I was going through had a negative impact on us. Eventually I turned to alcohol which wasn't the smartest move but at the time, it helped. Then...then when that no longer numbed me, I turned to drugs. I don't want to delve into too much detail, I'll let the songs on the album tell the stories. That's why it was important for me to take my time, do it my own way and get this record out their to the public. It's to tell them exactly what I've been up to over the last two years. It's everything I've felt, thought and experienced plus it's also a reflection of who I am as an artist now. I found a sound for me that just clicked and it might not be what people were expecting or are wanting to here...it might not even dent the charts but I'm fine with all of that. This record is very personal and I don't expect everyone to get it or even listen to it since I'm practically "irrelevant" now. To all the people who do check it out and continue (or begin to) support me then thank you. This has been a long time coming."

PERIPHERAL VISION

UserPostedImage
Length: 3:31
Genre: Electronica
Written By: L.Striker
Produced By: Luke Striker
From The Album: Title

"Okay, first up we have a track called "Peripheral Vision". I thought that it would be a good way to open up the album because it describes the mindset I was in before creating this record and when I was beginning to make it. Basically the song is about feeling like you're nothing but an afterthought in people's lives. Like you're something that's in the corner of their eye. They can see you but don't really acknowledge your existence that much and they don't really care to be honest. You're insignificant. It also talks about how things never seem to go right and while you're watching everyone go on to live out their lives and go on to do all these great things, you just sort of slip under the radar and feel like nothing good is ever meant to happen to you. It's kind of like self pity in a way. There are other songs which touch on this subject but I think that "Peripheral Vision" just sounded like the best opener out of the potential others.

I am that man in the song. Well I was....for a very long time. I had lost my record deal, people weren't interested in me, I was caught up with drugs and really shady characters. This may seem like a bit of a weird interpretation but for a long time I felt like everything was in vivid colour while I remained black and white. I had nothing going for me and while I had a few people that I spoke to, I could tell that they weren't really interested and I couldn't actually call any of them a friend. It's basically feeling alone in a crowd.

It's probably one of the most electronica heavy songs on the album. I used a lot of manipulation and distortion on the vocals and wanted to make the track almost unnerving to listen to because it's rather jittery. The production definitely represents the lyrics to the song. The distorted vocals show how my voice felt drowned out at times and the repetitiveness of the beat represents how everything was just going in a vicious circle. It's not the most positive of tracks but I wanted to make the record of my life over the past few years and this is how I felt once it all started out."

I lay my head down just to fall through the thin air
I reach out only to discover that it was never really there
Just mirages, false hope, a lot of smoke and mirrors
A bunch of broken promises, nothing ever seems to deliver

For some others, everything can happen at their own command
Why did I have to be the one that was dealt with the worst hand?
If there's a hard way of doing something, I'll sure find it
The plans don't fall into place and I take yet another hit

What I am reaching for seems to be another whole wide world away
Better luck next time but tomorrow never seems to come around
I chase those dreams, hopping over clouds that one by one turn to grey
Minutes turn to hours, I'm screaming out but no one seems to hear the sound
In all the love, life and chaos I just fade away into the hazy background

I try to look for help as I take on this strenuous mission
But nobody seems to even notice, I'm stuck in their peripheral vision
It has always been that way, don't even know why I complain
I'll go ahead and fail all by myself, it's always been the same

What I am reaching for seems to be another whole wide world away
Better luck next time but tomorrow never seems to come around
I chase those dreams, hopping over clouds that one by one turn to grey
Minutes turn to hours, I'm screaming out but no one seems to hear the sound
In all the love, life and chaos I just fade away into the hazy background

No silver lining about to cut through the storm
No wishing well or shooting star to wish upon
Numbed to the pain, I'll keep dragging my feet along

No it's not alright but I just have to keep moving on
Don't you worry about me, I'm nothing but an afterthought
I'm just a blur at the side of the eyes

What I am reaching for seems to be another whole wide world away
Better luck next time but tomorrow never seems to come around
I chase those dreams, hopping over clouds that one by one turn to grey
Minutes turn to hours, I'm screaming out but no one seems to hear the sound
In all the love, life and chaos I just fade away into the hazy background

What I am reaching for seems to be another whole wide world away
Better luck next time but tomorrow never seems to come around
I chase those dreams, hopping over clouds that one by one turn to grey
Minutes turn to hours, I'm screaming out but no one seems to hear the sound
In all the love, life and chaos I just fade away into the hazy background

STING

UserPostedImage
Length: 3:29
Genre: Pop Soul, Sophisti-Pop
Written By: D.Khan, L.Striker
Produced By: Deneil
From The Album: Title

"Next up on the album we have one of my favourite tracks. This one is called "Sting". I worked on it with the wonderful Deneil Khan and I'll talk about my experience with him in a little bit. This was one of the last songs that I hard worked on on the record. The song has a lot of metaphors running throughout it, the main one being that I don't want to be 'stung' by the bee. It means that I don't want to feel the wrath of the girl. I don't seem to paint a very good picture of myself throughout this record but it's all from real experiences so I can't sugarcoat things. Anyway, the song is about letting go and feeling good about yourself but not taking others into consideration. Very selfish in a sense. You want to go out and have fun but don't think of the effect it has on others or the consequences. I'm going to hold my hands up and say that this song is about me hooking up with a girl a few times, not thinking about how she may have seen things differently and then running off because I got scared. You need to think about how other perceive you and these types of situations. I was just looking for some fun. She thought we were going to become something serious and was enraged when she found out we were nothing more than a little fool around every so often. It was a sucky thing to do but I learned from it.

I wanted to write a song about this experience but couldn't quite put it down on paper. I didn't want to say "and I slept with a girl and she called me this and was angry, blah, blah, blah." I wanted something a little more than that. I brought Deneil in to work with me. He is a very good friend of mine and he's super talented. I love the way he works and I wanted this to be an intimate personal record so I only brought in a few select people I felt comfortable working with. I told him about the situation and song idea then he flipped through his massive catalogue of song lyrics and whipped out the chorus. It fit perfectly. From there I worked on the verses.

The overall sound is that signature Deneil one. It's very laid back and somehow manages to draw enough attention to the beat without taking away from the voice and lyrics themselves. I love working with him, he just has the magic touch and really deserves to be where he is today. In fact he should be even bigger but the lazy ass rarely leaves his basement. I had to fly over to London to get him on the track. It's weird how his first ever release was as a guest rapper on one of my older singles and now he's the go-to producer right now and producing one of my own tracks."

For once in my life I wanted to take a walk on the wild side
Let all of my reservations and doubts blow over in this invigorating breeze
Felt like it was the right place and right time to try a different ride
I was on top of the world, diving straight in, feeling completely carefree

But a little slip of the tongue can go a long, long way
And a little harmless fun can ruin everyone's day

I just wanted a taste of the sweet honey but now the Queen Bee is following me behind
I know that if I slow down that she won't go easy, even though she's floating like a butterfly
Only wanted to try out something new, didn't mean to fall face first into the hive
Now I keep on running away from the vicious sting. Girls can even make the big boys cry.

Everything just looked so inviting, I had to have a lick of the icing
Never gave it a second thought and now it seems I've bitten off far too much
Was walking around with rose tinted glasses, made it all look so appetising
Wasn't expecting such a backlash and now I'm here kissing the dirt

Maybe if I had thought twice, I wouldn't be running away
Maybe if I wasn't so blind, you wouldn't be gunning for me

I just wanted a taste of the sweet honey but now the Queen Bee is following me behind
I know that if I slow down that she won't go easy, even though she's floating like a butterfly
Only wanted to try out something new, didn't mean to fall face first into the hive
Now I keep on running away from the vicious sting. Love can even make the big boys cry.

She looks so pretty, tastes as sweet as vanilla
But once she's in the system, she's a deadly killer
Thought she was amazing, such a little thriller
Now she's breathing down my neck, it's a real spine chiller

Maybe if I had thought twice, I wouldn't be running away
Maybe if I wasn't so blind, you wouldn't be gunning for me
And I know a little slip of the tongue can go a long, long way

Girls can even..., girls can even...

I just wanted a taste...

Running away from the vicious sting

MAN LEFT WITH NOTHING

UserPostedImage
Length: 4:22
Genre: Pop Soul, Sophisti-Pop
Written By: L.Striker
Produced By: Luke Striker
From The Album: Title

"The third track on the album is one called "Man Left With Nothing". This was one that I actually produced myself but I was using Deneil's equipment. I had a rough idea in my head of what I wanted the song to sound like and he just let me do my thing in his little studio so I thank him for that. The song is probably one of my favourites lyrically. Um, it talks about how love isn't easy and there's a lot of games and politics that go on and that a relationship may not have actually had any love in it. It may have just been a game for the other person. For some reason, love and life can never be straightforward. I've been in and out of relationships like this and I found myself giving a lot to a person for them just to walk out on me. I'm not talking about a sexual relationship, just a very close one in general. You think you know someone and how they feel but you eventually find out the truth and it's just one huge smack around the face. You give everything, thinking they'll do the same and feel the same way but...they just leave you with nothing.

It's one of the more down tempo songs on the album. Overall, I would say that "Title" is a very laid back record but there are a few "glitchy" moments as I like to call them. This song is definitely not one of those, this is a very smooth flowing track like the song previous to it. I always find myself singing this one the most and I don't know why. I can relate to all of my songs and don't think that this one strikes a chord more than the others but something just draws me to it. The song itself is not written about a certain famous ex before anyone asks. It's a combination of different relationships and I think we've all had the crappy experience of finding out that someone has different motives."

You went straight for the gun, bang bang, it could've been done
Wipe off the prints and leave me here as I slowly bleed
But that's not enough for you, a quick release is too good to be true
Why do people need to play these sadistic games?

You went straight for the knife, one big slash would take my life
Yet you decide to do it all slit by slit
What did I ever do to you to make you act so cold and cruel?
Why does love always lead to this pain?

I shouldn't wear my heart on my sleeve, I should have learned by now
You grab hold and you give it a squeeze until all the life comes pouring out
I'm only wanting to love but once again, I'm taken down

How does it feel when you rip out my heart and take my life?
How does it feel when you lean right in and twist that wicked knife?
Can you come face to face, eye to eye, and feel nothing as it all comes to an end?
Can you still go ahead with this, knowing that you once called me a friend?
You take it all and I lose yet again

You went straight for my throat, wrap tight and just let me choke
Pull away to let me breathe, back to square one
Why do you have to act this way then love me hard the next day?
Is there something that I'm missing here?

I shouldn't wear my heart on my sleeve, I should have learned by now
You grab hold and you give it a squeeze until all the life comes pouring out
I'm only wanting to love but once again, I'm taken down

How does it feel when you rip out my heart and take my life?
How does it feel when you lean right in and twist that wicked knife?
Can you come face to face, eye to eye, and feel nothing as it all comes to an end?
Can you still go ahead with this, knowing that you once called me a friend?
You take it all and I lose yet again

It's hard to pick it all up and start again when your whole world has thrown it back in your face
Why does everything have to be so complicated and eventually resort to all of these cruel games?

How does it feel when you rip out my heart and take my life?
How does it feel when you lean right in and twist that wicked knife?
Can you come face to face, eye to eye, and feel nothing as it all comes to an end?
Can you still go ahead with this, knowing that you once called me a friend?
You take it all and I lose yet again

How does it feel when you rip out my heart and take my life?
How does it feel when you lean right in and twist that wicked knife?
Can you come face to face, eye to eye, and feel nothing as it all comes to an end?
Can you still go ahead with this, knowing that you once called me a friend?
You take it all and I lose yet again

You take it all, you take it all, you take it all again
I lose it all, I lose it all, I lose it all again
You take it all, you take it all, you take it all again
I lose it all, I lose it all, I lose it all again

WE JUST GO ON

UserPostedImage
Length: 4:06
Genre: Electronica
Written By: L.Striker
Produced By: Luke Striker
From The Album: Title

"Next up we have "We Just Go On". I'd say that this is one of the most "explosive(?)" tracks on the album due to its lyrical content and the fact that production wise, it's one of the most uptempo songs included on the record. The lyrics explicitly talk about a very....I wouldn't say "violent", more like a volatile relationship between a man and a woman. They're both stubborn as hell, hate to lose arguments and always try to get the better of each other but they love each other to pieces. They are based on a couple I met when I was getting myself cleaned up after my dark time. The guy was a former addict and we had connections through a rehab facility. He's such a big, lively character and then he introduced me to his fiancee who was even livelier. This little 4'11 girl could pack a punch. Literally. I still keep in contact with them and they aren't always like the way they're depicted in the song. That's an extreme, exaggerated version but you get the gist of it. No matter what is said, they both know that they can be hotheaded and say things they don't mean so they'll always soldier on and just get on with things."

You love me so much, you take it all out on me but that's alright
You can't live without me, who else would ever make themselves your punching bag?
We both say some things that we don't mean, shout at the top of our lungs until ears bleed
Once the tears flow, you know that I'll still be there to dry your face
No matter what's said or done, you know that nobody else could ever take your place

The bruises on my arms show all the blows that I have taken for this love
They also count for all the times that we have patched everything up
Sure, by this time tomorrow we will have lost both of our voices again
I call you a narcissist, you can me a failure and the sparks fly once more
Can't deny that I like when we ignite, there's no limits, we just soar

And I know you don't care, it's safe to say I know you well enough by now
And I know that you'll go, I'll leave space in the bed for when you come back around
And I know it's my fault, you'll call me every name that's under the sun
But I know it all works out in the end and we just keep going on
Oh we just go on, we just go on

I kiss you once and watch you fall, next minute you're pinning me to the wall
There's no knowing where we are going, or when one of us will throw a curve ball
I'm a raging ball of fire and you are the long trail of gasoline
We are going to detonate once again but I don't care, it just hurts so good
Everyone else must think that we're totally crazy but we're just misunderstood

And I know you don't care, it's safe to say I know you well enough by now
And I know that you'll go, I'll leave space in the bed for when you come back around
And I know it's my fault, you'll call me every name that's under the sun
But I know it all works out in the end and we just keep going on
Oh we just go on, we just go on

And I know you don't care, it's safe to say I know you well enough by now
And I know that you'll go, I'll leave space in the bed for when you come back around
And I know it's my fault, you'll call me every name that's under the sun
But I know it all works out in the end and we just keep going on
Oh we just go on, we just go on

I'll let you cut me up into little pieces
I'll let you put me back together again
Call me crazy but I love you exactly the way you are
And although many things do go wrong
We just brush it off and keep going on

We just go on...go on

We just go on
We just go on

SOMETHING

Length: 4:30
Genre(s): Electronica

From The Album: Title

"The fifth song on the album is "Something". Without a doubt, the intro to the this track is one of my favorites on the entire album. The first time that I heard the original demo loop I knew that I had to have it. The song comes from a relatively new production duo called Make A Scene. They consist of a guy and a girl, Gwen and Adrian, and they are an absolute blast to work with. Like Deneil, they are extremely passionate about what they do and all of that positive energy really rubs off on you. This was the only track that I had booked them for initially but due to successful outcome of our first session, I just had to work with them again. They now have three cuts on the album and I hope to work with them again.

The lyrics in this track look like they are about a relationship that has soured and the girl is giving the guy a whole load of the silent treatment. In actual fact, the idea of the song is based on me and how I was during that dark period of time. I was just devoid of everything. I was no longer Luke Striker. I didn't have the same thoughts, the same opinions and views on things. Even the first line about the cigarette smoke is the epitome of how I was feeling. Anyone who knows me knows that I cannot stand cigarettes and will walk away whenever someone sparks up. I don't need that clinging to me. Back then in that horrible time though, I had other addicts at my home smoking all kinds of things. I was just inhaling the secondhand smoke, hoping to choke on it. I just didn't care. Thankfully I can detach myself from situations and writing this one up was more of an enjoyable experience rather than an emotional look back. I loved creating the visuals of this couple who sit as far away from each other as possible, not saying anything with this elephant in the room. It's a very tense, awkward scenario and thought it was an interesting spin on actual events."

Oh, oh

I roll up another cigarette, you still look far from interested
Used to hate the stench of the smoke, where did that infinite rage go?
TV's laying on in the background, it's our only source of sound
We used to be the life and soul of the party, now it's all just halfhearted
It's killing me

Do you want to stay or pack your bags and go?
Do you still want me or am I not needed any more?
Whatever words fall from your lips will be better than nothing

Just say something, say anything, don't let this silence do all the talking
It's killing me slowly, it's becoming deafening, I'll admit that it's even frightening
The walls are closing in, feeling crushed under the waves, the pressure's setting in
Say that you love me, say that you hate me, don't leave me wondering, just say something

You sit there with your red lip stain, a few glasses of wine again
It's time you just let it go, won't know what's wrong unless you say so
You turn away, I think you're struggling to find the words you're dying to say
We can fix it or call it off but all this silent treatment is becoming too much
It's killing me

Do you want me to stay or pack my bags and go?
Do you still want me or should I just hit the road?
Whatever words fall from your lips will be better than nothing

Just say something, say anything, don't let this silence do all the talking
It's killing me slowly, it's becoming deafening, I'll admit that it's even frightening
The walls are closing in, feeling crushed under the waves, the pressure's setting in
Say that you love me, say that you hate me, don't leave me wondering, just say something

Just say something, say anything, don't let this silence do all the talking
It's killing me slowly, it's becoming deafening, I'll admit that it's even frightening

BETTER THINGS

UserPostedImage
Length: 3:30
Genre(s): Electronica
Written By: L.Striker
Produced By: Make A Scene
From The Album: Title

"Next up on the album we have one of the more personal songs of the record which is "Better Things". I wrote this song at the tail end of the creative process of the album. It was like 3 am and the idea just came into my head so I put pen to paper. It only took me ten minutes to write so lyrically, it's rather simple and I didn't spend much time on cutting and carving it into something catchy or thinking about clever metaphors to turn it into something fancy. It's just raw thoughts put down onto a sheet. Throughout the making of this record I've always had an idea of what the songs will sound like production and melody wise when I was writing them but with this one I just let the words spill out with no idea of how to turn it into something to sing along too. At first I thought that the only way to do it would be acoustically but since I didn't want to throw in a random acoustic track in a very electronica/left field sounding album I called up Gwen and Adrian again and they worked their magic.

It has a very minimal approach to it and sounds almost eerie. There's a great sense of loneliness in the vocal deliver, which by the way has been mistaking for that of Riley Hamilton...I'll take that compliment, thank you very much! But yeah as I was saying, there's a feeling of being isolated to it and I like to think of "Better Things" as the answer to "Peripheral Vision" both sonically and lyrically. It has that sad undercurrent running throughout the production exactly like the opening track on the album but the lyrics are the total opposite.

On "Peripheral Vision" it's sort of me feeling sorry for myself but on "Better Things" it's me looking back to how I was and seeing how pathetic I really was. Thinking of myself at that time I just want to go back and give myself a shake and say, "Get up and stop dwelling on things. Nobody is going to wave a magic wand and make it all better. Only you can save yourself if you really want to. Worse things are happening in the world so stop feeling like the victim. Get over yourself." Thankfully I did get over myself and it is true. I was so caught up in everything I didn't even step back and put it into perspective. I was crying and ruining myself because I lost a record deal. On the other side of the globe, people are crying themselves to sleep because they have nowhere to go and nothing to eat or drink. It's a little exaggerated and I may sound as if I'm being a little too harsh on myself but at the end of the day, I still had a roof over my head, money and warm clothes and food. I just had to get over myself."

So you've let go of the one girl you truly loved
You shot yourself right in the foot and now you want to give up
Crying for endless days and nights over how things have turned out
Hitting the bottom of another bottle, stubbing out yet another doubt

So you took everything that you ever had for granted
Your girl, your career and friends, lost them all single-handed
Beating yourself up, looking for sympathy in anyone nearby
So you're a little down and thinking that you deserve to die

The world doesn't stop turning for you
You're just a tiny little dot, so insignificant
Just wipe your eyes and get on with it
You're just down on luck, hardly a big incident

Why are you crying? Pick yourself up off of the floor
This is just a regular day in your life, it's nothing that hasn't happened before
Hold your head up high, fix your hair and adjust your collar
Things could be a whole lot worse for you, like begging for a scrawny dollar
Hasn't God got better things to do with his time than listen to someone like you?
It's time to get over yourself and stop sitting in the blues

So you have fallen right into the wrong crowd
You should have seen all the warning signs, get yourself back out
So you say that they have got you hooked, dependent
I'm sure that nobody force fed you so don't just blame them

The world doesn't stop turning for you
You're just a tiny little dot, so insignificant
Just wipe your eyes and get on with it
You're just down on luck, hardly a big incident

Why are you crying? Pick yourself up off of the floor
This is just a regular day in your life, it's nothing that hasn't happened before
Hold your head up high, fix your hair and adjust your collar
Things could be a whole lot worse for you, like begging for a scrawny dollar
Hasn't God got better things to do with his time than listen to someone like you?
It's time to get over yourself and stop sitting in the blues

It's time to get over yourself and stop sitting in the blues

I know it's hard but keep your chin up, you'll get there
You're feeling down and out but hey, life is never fair
There's bigger issues going on and your life is one big yawn
If you really want to change then just do it, do it
If you really want to change then just prove it, prove it

Why are you crying? Pick yourself up off of the floor
This is just a regular day in your life, it's nothing that hasn't happened before

RAISE A GLASS

UserPostedImage
Length: 3:43
Genre(s): Electronica
Written By: L.Striker
Produced By: Deneil
From The Album: Title

"Ah, now we come to "Raise A Glass" which I'd say is one of the "big" moments on the album. It tells quite a story and I tried to go as in depth as possible, creating characters and visually every line as opposed to the previous track, "Better Things", which was just off the cuff thoughts put immediately onto paper. This song however, has quite a story behind it and it was one of the two tracks that I just had to write. The album would not be complete without it and I wouldn't feel right knowing that I haven't put this story out there and got it all off of my chest. The inspiration was drawn on quite a dramatic part of my life within the past year and it just couldn't go unnoticed and swept under the carpet. Again, I may not come across as the best person in the world on this track but who cares, right?

Basically when I was heavily into drugs and more or less dependent on them, I met this girl who was also a fellow user. I won't say her name or bring in the name of mutual friends because unfortunately I heard that the girl passed away nearly two months ago so I don't want to say a name and leave a certain impression about her. Um...we met through mutual friends, well "dealers" to be precise but at the time I thought they were the best friends in the world. How wrong was I? Anyway, we just sort of hooked up the same night we met and basically never let each other up for air for two weeks. The entire time we were together we were completely out of it, had no idea what was going on so we just went with the flow. The relationship was just sex, drugs, sex and even more drugs. I only knew her for two weeks but being in that state of mind, I thought that she was my world and we already said that we loved one another and I was her prince and she was my princess. Yeah, this was in the space of two weeks.

The lyrics of the song describe how I saw her. How I saw us during that time and in that weird state of mind. We were in our own little world and she appeared to be my everything at the time. We were the be all and end all. The stars of our own show and everyone looking on was jealous and in awe of what we had. Really, they thought we were deluded and disgusting considering the fact that we couldn't keep our hands off of each other. In the song it plays out this story of two drug addicts living out a little fantasy of being rich, famous and doing well in life. They twist reality so it plays along with their fantasy. For example, the mugshots are just photo shoots to them. The police chasing after them down the highway is actually a paparazzo trying to get a good shot of them. It's really sad in a sense since they are so hopeless and need to create this fake reality around them to stop them from slipping under."

We are the small town stars, we're living it up until all sorts of hours
Fur coats and fancy rings, when you're light-fingered it don't cost a thing
Our faces on the magazines, although the lighting in the station was unflattering
Showed up all the scars and bumps, that's the price we pay for doing our own stunts
Can be hard living the fast life but at least you're here right by my side

Blacked out shades make us look cool, they can also cover up that bruise
The alleyway behind our apartment can be turned into our own red carpet
Cruising 'round in a borrowed Cadillac, hit the pedal as the paps were on my back
They sneaked up and followed me home, it's time to pack up our stuff and go
Can't complain about no peace and quiet, after all we live for the riot

We don't buy, always just browsing
Don't spend a dime, but talk in thousands
I pull every string and make risky moves
But every little thing I do, it's for you

Lay down right next to me and we can bathe together in our filth and lies
The screams are the cheering of the crowds, this warehouse is our stage tonight
We can't run from the spotlight shining down on us, follows with every step
With their hoarse voices, they demand an encore and throw our palms up to the sky
This may be too much for some but never for you and I, let's raise a glass to the fast life

Everyone is reading all about us, cover stars, they just can't seem to get enough
Everywhere we go they all point and stare, can't believe we're breathing the same air
Here they come all pushing past, must be so desperate for an autograph
Losing balance as we're both pushed and shoved, but it's all part of being so loved
They all just want a piece, they'll get their turn once we let the fire cease

We don't buy, always just browsing
Don't spend a dime, but talk in thousands
I pull every string and make risky moves
But every little thing I do, it's for you

Lay down right next to me and we can bathe together in our filth and lies
The screams are the cheering of the crowds, this warehouse is our stage tonight
We can't run from the spotlight shining down on us, follows with every step
With their hoarse voices, they demand an encore and throw our palms up to the sky
This may be too much for some but never for you and I, let's raise a glass to the fast life

Goodbye my sweetheart, we've both played out our parts
But it's time for the stage to turn to black
One day I'll see you once again, way upon a higher plane
For now the show is over as the spotlight fades away

Lay down right next to me and we can bathe together in our filth and lies
The screams are the cheering of the crowds, this warehouse is our stage tonight
We can't run from the spotlight shining down on us, follows with every step
With their hoarse voices, they demand an encore and throw our palms up to the sky
This may be too much for some but never for you and I, let's raise a glass to the fast life

COMING UP FOR AIR

UserPostedImage
Length: 4:18
Genre(s): Electronica, PBR&B
Written By: S.Donaghy, P.Hutton, J.Rockstar
Produced By: Deneil
From The Album: Title

"This track is the one and only cover on the album. It's probably the only cover I will ever do since I'm not really a fan of them but this song just needed to be on the record. This song is "Coming Up For Air". It was originally performed by a beautiful redheaded songstress called Siobhan Donaghy. Being from the US, I didn't know much about her and wasn't exposed to her tremendous talents until I stumbled upon her on Twitter. She used to be in a girl band called Sugababes but left in 2001, went solo then came back with the original members of the band....although now they're called MKS. Stupid music politics. Anyway, this track was on her second and last studio album, "Ghosts", and the record and this track just touched me. I was in awe of how simple it all was yet the power it held within the words. It is a very defiant song and since the song is rather broad, the lyrics can apply to a range of topics and emotions. I listened to it when I was starting to head into recovery and think about picking my life up again and for me, this song is about wriggling out from underneath that giant boot and finally realising that if I want to make it....if I want to survive, then I've got to act fast and do it myself.

This is the third and last song that was produced by Deneil. The original version had a slightly more pop feel to it, quite polished and with a slightly upbeat sound to it. That version was produced by Marius de Vries who likes to put the odd bell and whistle into tracks to give them a slightly more commercial, accessible vibe. The Deneil version is more stripped back, very ethereal sounding and has an overall darker tone to it. Like I said, covers are not usually my thing but this song said many things that I wanted to and it's also a nod to Miss Donaghy's talents."

Is this a question of time?
Is this a question of space?
I've been out of my mind
I'm coming up for air
To work it out

If you throw me a line
Then I'll try to replace
All the things I can't find
'Cause I'm coming up for air
To let it out

Defection from the state I'm in
Reflections of a world within

Back with myself again
All my fears
Just like a ball and chain
And I know
Although I am alone
I'm at home
Here with my selfish pain

It's not a question of faith
It's not a question of hope
I'm getting out of this place
I'm coming up for air
To work it out

Defection from the state I'm in
Reflections of a world within

I'm feeling colder now
A little bolder now
Pure as my sins allow
Broke every promise and proud

UNTITLED

From The Album: Title

"The second to last track on the album is "Untitled". This song is one that will probably throw people when they listen to it. Much like "Better Things" this was sort of like a brain dump onto paper but I deliberately wanted to keep it simple and repetitive. It's a way of drilling into your head, the fact that I am so confused on this track. This song is reflecting on the time when earlier this year, I decided to wipe the slate clean but really had no idea about what I wanted to do or where I was going in life. I had to make my own decisions and it was rather daunting. Terrifying. I always repeats the words "It's time to start over again". Those were the words that I kept on saying to myself over and over again. At first it was motivational but then it became pressurising. I had to make a change otherwise I'd be dead within months but I had absolutely no idea how I would go about it and what I would do. I felt like time was running out and I was screaming, "MAKE A CHANGE, NOW!". It frightened me and I was close to falling back into old patterns.

It also shows me recalling my first stint in the industry - "I just walked out on what I knew into a place I don't understand /Maybe I shouldn't have jumped ship when it got too hard /Maybe I should have reached out for the one helping hand". I can't help but wonder how things would be now if I had released the 'Overload' album, sucked it up and stayed at Studio60 Records. I may have worked myself into an early grave but then again, I could have been living an easier life by now. I had left my old sound and image behind as well as kicking my drink and drug habits, shaking off bad company along the way too. I was starting over again with little to no support and nothing to fall back on to. I was untitled and had to make a name for myself again."

It's time to start all over again, clean the metaphorical slate
It's time to start all over again, put the pen on a fresh blank page
It's time to start all over again, got to try and seize the day
It's time to start all over again, yet I don't know what to say

I don't have any ideas, no rough drafts of a simple plan
I just walked out on what I knew into a place I don't understand
Maybe I shouldn't have jumped ship when it got too hard
Maybe I should have reached out for the one helping hand
But now, untitled, here I stand

It's time to start all over again, I thought it looked so good
It's time to start all over again, I just wish I understood
It's time to start all over again, but I'm floating like driftwood
It's time to start all over again, I really wish I could

I don't have any ideas, no rough drafts of a simple plan
I just walked out on what I knew into a place I don't understand
Maybe I shouldn't have jumped ship when it got too hard
Maybe I should have reached out for the one helping hand
But now, untitled, here I stand

It's time to start all over again
It's time to start all over again
It's time to start all over again
It's time to start all over again
It's time to start all over again
It's time to start all over again
It's time to start all over again
It's time to start all over again

I'm just a fish out of water
I'm just a fish out of water
Trying to find my way back around
I'm just a fish out of water
I'm just a fish out of water
Feel like only God can save me now

I don't have any ideas, no rough drafts of a simple plan
I just walked out on what I knew into a place I don't understand
Maybe I shouldn't have jumped ship when it got too hard
Maybe I should have reached out for the one helping hand
But now, untitled, here I stand

TROUBLE IN PARADISE

UserPostedImage
Length: 4:06
Genre(s): Electronica, New Wave, Pop Rock
Written By: L.Striker
Produced By: Make A Scene
From The Album: Title

"Now we finally come to the last song on the record. Last but definitely far from least. "Trouble In Paradise" is probably my favorite track that I've ever done. Everything from the lyrics, to the production, vocal delivery, even the feelings I experienced when writing and recording the track...it just felt right and everything came so naturally. It was also the first song that had actually been written in one full go and I felt a sense of accomplishment. When I first started to pen this new album it was a very slow burning process to be honest. It would take me weeks to write one song. I'd maybe get a verse out in one sitting if I was lucky. That was back when I was forcing myself to make a new record and get back to what I know. I still had my doubts and wasn't 100% back to myself but the idea of this track came to me one day and whoosh, I was back in business. I managed to right it all out in one go, it flowed so naturally and it's the track I am most proud of. You can say that this song is my "baby"!

The lyrics tell the story of how I first fell into drugs and then experimented with more. I met a lot of people who I thought were offering to help me and at one point I thought this crowd were amazing. I felt like they were there for me but really, they were just taking advantage and ruining me. When I first got acquainted with them all, it was just some light stuff to start off with. They spurred me on and made me feel good about myself. It was ecstasy to begin with and apparently I was a hoot when I took them. I felt needed and loved. I was life and soul of the party. Then as time went on it moved to heavier stuff. Cocaine was the main one. They were all doing it and I was promised a taste of paradise. It all seemed like fun and games and for a while, it was. Then I just became wrecked and it's not what I wanted or ever seen myself becoming. I guess I was extremely naive. It started out as some entertainment with friends and as a way of looking cool, I guess. Next thing I know, I'm shaking and in tears because I can't function without it. The chorus is about me realising the mess I'm in but feeling like I can't do anything about it because there is nobody around to help and it's such a hard habit to kick. I refer to the addiction as a black hole. You don't want to go near it, it's a terrible thing but you unwillingly find yourself being drawn back in.

Production comes from Make A Scene yet again. This was one of the earliest tracks that I had written and my favorite by far so I was keeping it by for the right producer to come along. After hitting it off in our first session, I presented them with his song and then sang them a rough acapella version. I always new that despite the dark lyrics, I wanted this track to have an upbeat feel. I wanted a sense of "fun" and something that makes you feel like you're living up in paradise. The cheery, enjoyable rhythm purposely contradicts the serious lyrics because the entire song is about things being different to the reality. I thought I was solving all my problems and living a great life but really I was only exacerbating things and working myself closer to my grave. It really tells the beginning of my story well and I'd say that it's one of the strongest on the album so I thought it would be a great way to close it."

Take two of these and everything will be just fine
Toss them right back, take a sip and let it all unwind
Have a little taster of a much happier place
Filled with joy and lots of white rabbits to chase

Have some of these and it will be absolute bliss
But don't come crying to me if you get in a few twists
See things with brand new eyes, pupils are dilated
Feel the life in your veins, feeling so elated

But this yellow brick road just has me spinning in circles
It's leading me closer to the point of no return
But now the cracks are all showing, the tension is growing
This is not what I wanted to become

This black hole is pulling me in, I'm heading closer and closer towards the abyss
I think I took a few too many wrong turns, it certainly wasn't painted like this
It's dried up, the fire's died and now I'm left wondering what happened
Stars fell, lights are out and now I'm just left right here, stranded
There's no more time to worry, I've just got to get up and start to run for my life
Someone call 911, there appears to be trouble in paradise

I know a little something that will fix you up
It will cost a little extra but it's the best stuff
Once the shivers subside, you'll learn how to fly
The nighttime will become your own personal paradise

The sun has set in paradise

OOC: Throwing that shameless Sugababes promo in there, I see you :P

Jennifer: Luuuuuke, so glad to see you back and with a punch! Loved this album, it was so unexpected but great. I do think I could've reached out to you more as a friend but you've seem to really gone through so much and managed to get back into life which is all that matters. I think this album tells your story well and it also shows how much of a void has been needed for a male artist such as yourself. My favorites, it's really hard, but 'Peripheral Vision,' 'Sting,' 'Raise A Glass,' and 'Better Things.' I love them for my own personal reasons and I can so relate to this album in a lot of ways. It's just really great to see you back and hear your voice, hopefully all over the radios! :) Amazing job. And if you ever need someone to talk to or anything, I am always here.

Kato: I think what you did is amazing. You've proven that even if you hit your lowest point, you can still come back swinging. The album is amazing and I can't wait to buy it. Glad to see you back and doing great things Luke. Lyrically and production wise, you killed it.

OOC: When promo is thin on the ground, you take every given opportunity lol

Luke: Hello, Jennifer! It's great to be back with a punch and I'm feeling better than ever. To be honest, yes I know that I could have reached out to you now but when you're in that frame of mind and going through all of that, you're never thinking straight. You know yourself how scary that place is. I'm glad that the story is coming across clearly and I might not sound like the sweetest guy in the world in a bunch of the songs but I wanted to remain true to the events. I was actually thinking of releasing 'Sting' as the first single. Might just do that now that you've brought it up :P Not sure if radios will even touch my new stuff but at least it's finally out there and some people like it, haha. Now that things have all cleared up I'd love to meet up again. Don't want to fade into that background again ;)

Luke: Thank you, Kato. For a long time I was unsure whether or not I could come back swinging and I'm still pinching myself right now. Going from that isolated place to seeing people like yourself praising my new work is so rewarding and rather unbelievable. Nice to know that my first attempt at producing wasn't a total misfire! Thanks, buddy :P

OOC: Yeah it takes me months to write most of my stuff too. I guess I just had a spurt of creativity. I was laying in bed at like 2 in the morning and this idea came into my head. After I woke up I just started typing away :P Didn't think it was possible haha. Thank you for taking time out to read it. Wasn't sure if many would check it out since I just sent it all in one big bulk without warning lol.
