Track : Days in the North Artist : Rum & Coke Release Date : September 13, 2014 Genre : Trap, Witch House Length : 4:45 Label : Studio60, Tric-Jam Records Written by : Airemese Smith, Nina Tarantino Produced by : NinaT
Days in the North is a song recorded by the Hip Hop duo, Rum & Coke originally posted on Soundcloud but soon deleted after being picked as a promotional single for Rum & Coke's upcoming project. It was at first written by Coke but then edited by Rum and a rap verse was added. On the first track posted of the song, Coke sung the lyrics of her fight with prejudice peers but on this version, Rum jumps in and raps as almost an interlude between Coke's soft voice and the hard-hitting experimental beat.
"The production of this pushes you into a pool of trance... you're thrown in a daze almost as Coke softly states her worth as if she has nothing to prove and Rum hisses words of discouragement in your ear." Says Billboard's Jason Lipshutz. "It's almost like the two take good cop, bad cop to a whole new level." Marc Hogan from Spin explains, "You can't help but agree with everything that comes out of their mouth. They manage to get their point across without showing any effort--something very scarce in the world of Hip Hop yet key in a successful rap song."
"Nowadays, I don't really get pissed off at the stupid things people say, but I admit, this whole song was built off of a bunch of Tweets and YouTube comments." Airemese laughs. "A lot of people try and attack us on a daily basis but when I see comments with 100+ likes about how if I wasn't rich and Rum didn't have cantaloupes for boobs, we would have no career, I feel all types of ways. I mean, hell, I wont lie and say the cleavage doesn't have a key role in negotiation but damn, give us some credit." She explains in an interview. "I don't think anyone likes YouTube comments and I don't think anyone likes assumptions. So when they're combined, yea, these kind of songs just happen."
