Mi•Mi's newly anticipated album has leaked! No, I will not tell you who leaked it (*cough*
Miki *cough cough*) for the sake of her contract with
Five Pesky Kids. Even if she did decide to tweet it to the world. But what I will tell you is that there was absolutely no joke included in the tweet as
Take It Off proves to be the nudist theme song it was described as.. just not in the way you would think.
The song definitely shows major growth between the 4 artists, from vocals with control to an excessive amount of maturity in the artistry of it. They branch way off with this crossover track that could almost be an R&B track itself, if not for it's daring production style that doesn't forget it's Pop roots, even if in an alternative way. Honestly, if this is the song they (or she, I guess) just decided,
"Oh I'm bored, here's an OK track. I'll just leak it." then my expectations have just been set extremely high for this album. No pressure, Miki, but if you fucked around and leaked a lead single, we have a problem.
As for the lyrics, I love the idea of them. No, I'll just flat out say I love them. Simple, yet everything-- a writing style
Airemese "Coke" Smith has started to become known for blessing other artists with (Refer to
Tourist on
Tisha Jackson's,
25). Of course, there could be so much more done to a song like this, so much that it doesn't take a critic to realize that lyrically, the song is holding back. But it's probably just because Mrs. Amaze is keeping her hits to herself which a lot of
part-time songwriters need to start thinking about doing (YES, I'm talking about you
Zayne).
The song and it's hard hitting synths gives the song such a bold presence, almost as if self assured to the apprehensive lyrics. The attitude of the lyrics that Miki sings in a voice that would be
Rihanna-like-if-Rihanna-actually-had-vocal-capability almost sets a tone different from any other song ever written on the topic of self restraint. That little voice inside of Mi•Mi's head isn't trying to prove anything or persuade anyone, just there to state it as if already a known fact with plenty of evidence. That's what's so great about the track. Almost haunting, really. Yet just when you think the song has nothing more to say,
Mi Su begins to belt an argument with the lyrics and just seconds later, the song seems to stop as she vulnerably ends it all with the title of the song. It doesn't seem to work as the chorus comes right back in, with the same amount of force. Nevertheless you guys, I think Mi•Mi has just defined life for us.
Morale of the story: No matter how many times
2 Chainz is going to chase those big booty girls, the corset exists for a reason. If you've been a supermodel since birth and are slaying careers, one hip sway at a time, go ahead,
