Release Date: 11/23/14 Genre: Pop, Trip Hop Label: FivePeskyKids Songwriters: S.Scott, E.Kinns Producers: Rock Mafia Length: 3:40 Formats: Airplay, Digital, Streaming From The Album: TBA _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Brief Background:With the final months of 2014 on the up and up, many artists are releasing new music and it seems that we have another pop star joining the group of artist releases taking advantage of the fourth quarter rush. This artist in particular had a rough upcoming in the early days of her career but has since left those days behind her with the desire for people to take her seriously as a musician and not just another controversial pop starlet. Pop singer Serenity Scott has had quite a good year this year. It's relatively interesting to see how certain artists fair in the coming months after their album is released and once promo is over. After she released her second album, FREEDOM, which topped charts and spawned hit singles, most notably in the title track "FREEDOM", Scott went onto embark on a massive world tour for the remainder of the year and into 2014. After the tour folded in the summer of 2014, Serenity Scott took just a few weeks to rest up and spend time with family and then confirmed that she was working on new material for everyone. What people didn't know was that Serenity was also on a collaboration with popular production duo The Wolverines who got their big break here in the industry this year. Serenity was asked to provide vocals on their single "Beautiful Dream" and of course Scott glad accepted. The track was released in September and became an instant success, topping the Airplay Charts for two weeks and giving Serenity Scott momentum in the year of 2014, a year where she didn't release any new music. Until now. Recently, Serenity has been in the studio with a different producers working on her third album that is set for an early 2015 release. This will be her third album and this time around Serenity has stated that she wanted to try new things musically and that was one of the main reasons why she worked with the Wolverines as they provided "fresh new ideas" and inspired her. This certainly doesn't mean that Serenity Scott will become an underground house artist, but it shows that she is still being inspired by all types of different music. Continuing on, following the release of Beautiful Dream, Serenity Scott hit the studio with Rock Mafia. During her time on tour, Serenity had a lot of down time and begin writing some tracks about heart break, love among other topics as well, which is quite different from what we heard in 'FREEDOM'. Most of these topics were pushed on due to Serenity feeling down over a breakup during her time on tour with a certain person that made her reflect on all of her past relationships, and although it made her feel down. she would write songs based on it on her down time during touring. When she entered the studio with production crew "Rock Mafia" Serenity presented them with about four tracks she worked on so far for the album and one of them was of course, called "Who Needs A Heart?". Serenity called it a persona favorite of hers and felt it would be the perfect way to release something that people weren't expecting from her going into a new era of music. She didn't want the typical 'club banger' or floor filler, but something that people could relate to and feel in their heart as she sings it to them. Rock Mafia fell in love with what was presented to them and agreed. They felt that the lyrical content was brilliant and relate able and within the next few weeks they were already recording the track and finalized it in early October as what is rumored to be the first release off of Serenity's new album. Who Needs A Heart? Is the newest single by pop recording artist Serenity Scott and will be available for streaming, airplay and digital outlets on November 23rd, 2014 as a track that will appear on Serenity's new album set to be released in 2015 through FivePeskyKids, her record label. The track was written by Serenity Scott and Emily Kinns and was produced by Rock Mafia. The track itself is a beautiful ballad that doesn't exactly take the cliche 'first release' approach that is usually a floor filling anthem, but instead "WNAH" is an authentic, captivating and crooning pop and trip hop concoction that feels as if Serenity is pouring her heart out over the beats where she uses her vocals to get her emotion across in this track. Something about the track feels haunting even when the track starts off. The song starts off with a light synths and a atmospheric like trip hop beat and right away Serenity comes in. Her vocals aren't heavy on this track and she speaks lightly, almost feeling like she is heartbroken and weak. The track is about a female who is deeply in love with a guy who is clearly cheating on her but she is so naive that she just stands by and watches and continues to be a victim of infidelity and through his actions it makes her realizes that previously she thought he had such a big heart but now, the real question is "Who Needs A Heart" and the person that needs a heart is the male because he clearly doesn't have one to continuously cheat on her and this other girl. The captivating beats continues as Serenity sings about the guy in the first verse, she explains certain traits about the guy and then realizes that another girl is involved but shockingly she asks herself does she have to adjust. This goes to show that in the situation she is explaining that the girl in the track is submissive and deeply in love. The beats then pick up a bit, adding in sharp synth as Serenity croons continuing to tell the rest of the story calling herself naive for fighting to keep her place even though she knew he was cheating and ends off this pre-hook by asking if the girl on the other hand knows what is going on. 'But in her eyes, so tell me, does she know|Everything you tried to hide?' before the track breaks into the chorus. Here Serenity brings her vocals up and bigger as the synths grow larger and the backing beats clap along as Serenity sings regretfully and keeps asking who needs a heart, the chorus is rather catchy adding in some rapid word placement for each time she says heart". The chorus then rides out as Serenity continues within the next verse, she continues with the haunting lyrics about only wanting the male's love for herself but still having disgust that she is being cheating on. Following this the pre hook comes back onto the track followed by the chorus. The track then takes another turn, where the beats completely slow down and only snapping beats are heard and Serenity starts speaking, almost as if she is on the break of tears talking about this guy. If you felt the track was haunting before the chorus, you will be completely taken aback after hearing the bridge. She speaks deeply about how she wanted love so bad that she didn't realize how much she was hurting herself. When she's done the track breaks into a quick backing beat instrumentation that brings it back to the pre hook and then the final chorus where Serenity sings,, adding in beautiful high notes as this haunting track comes to a finish. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I know the big question is going to be, who the HECK is Serenity talking about and I'll be honest. This track really came about when I was on tour and I was just feeling bad about a recent breakup, but lord knows this song is not about him. When I was feeling this way, I really just started to reflect on every screwed up relationship that I've been apart of and I just wrote and wrote about it and just felt so much better when I got these things off of my chest. It's really tough dealing with someone cheating on you, or being left by someone you love and there's elements of that through the entire track of "Who Need A Heart?". So this is not a song about anyone in particular but it really just derives from all of my bad relationships and I know people can listen to this song and immediately relate to it. This track really digs deep for the people's heart who have been broken by anyone, whether it be someone in relationship with a male or female and you just question, do you even have a heart? You need a heart...because... why and how could you hurt me the way you did? You know?"
In the song I'm singing about different things having to deal with that and I had so much built inside of me because of bad relationships that you don't realize how many times you are being victimized because you love someone so much. So in the song there is alot of confusion, a lot of contradiction a lot of emotion because us as humans when we love someone we contradict ourselves and we're confused and emotional beings and I just wanted this to really be as authentic as possible for everyone that's listening to know that I am human I have been there numerous though my twenty plus years of living *laughs*, and that it's important for you to let go of us, reflect on it and make something of it. All these negative things in one song that I made could possibly make the next girl or guy who wants to hurt themselves or hurt someone because they are heartbroken, feel like there's someone else there to relate to them and that's also what made me record the spoken part of the bridge. I wanted to really show everyone that this is the real deal, this is really me. It's not acting, I'm putting my personal feelings out there to show everyone that us celebrities have issues too, we feel weak, heartbroken and victimized also. I went into the studio, asked everyone to leave... turned the lights off and just let myself go and just spoke about how I felt. There's so much more to the recording but I couldn't make the bridge more than like...half a minute or more long and I got to teary eyed because I thought about all of my screwed up situations and it was really therapeutic at the end of the day! *laughs* and I just want to share this with all my fans and listeners so I really hope they enjoy it. Here's my BRAND NEW single "Who Needs A Heart?"!
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ *The entirety of the bridge is spoken by the performer, Serenity Scott *Each chorus features "rapid word repetition" when Serenity sings the world "heart" in the "who needs a heart" part of the chorus
You... Are so unreachable I bet I could scream and you wouldn't hear a thing You... Are so inconsolable, But I never let you down at all You have wrapped your arms around today But my yesterday's not dead and gone I stood there helplessly, Watching as your love turned to lust, I had a feeling another was involved, do I have to adjust? And in the safety of all those involved I have to prove you're not to trust I followed closed, just to keep safe, So naive, I fought so hard just to keep my place But in her eyes, so tell me, does she know Everything you tried to hide? I wish that I could Talk myself out of this And walk my way out of this Or cry my way back into your mind. Well, who needs a heart? Clearly it's you Well, who needs a heart? Clearly it's you (2x)You... Are undeniable There's certain things you won't return You keep your hands full So you won't run to me instead Can't you look into my eyes and say It's not the end? It never ends If I only had the heart To stand and speak of my disgust, No one would want you now So clear my head and fix my heart I followed closed, just to keep safe, So naive, I fought so hard just to keep my place But in her eyes, so tell me, does she know Everything you tried to hide? I wish that I could Talk myself out of this And walk my way out of this Or cry my way back into your mind. Well, who needs a heart? Clearly it's you Well, who needs a heart? Clearly it's you (2x)[SPOKEN:]I stood there helplessly Wanting to stop you from breaking my hearts But....I couldn't.... I was so naive.... so desperate for your love That little did I know, I was hurting myself deeply.... I knew what was going on. I was just so deeply in love... I thought you had the biggest heart, capable of loving me for me... But one day I woke up.....all you need was mess around... I'm pretty sure you didn't really even love me......all you did was mess around So now....I realize it's you who really needs a heart... [END:]*Backing beat instrumentation*I followed closed, just to keep safe, So naive, I fought so hard just to keep my place But in her eyes, so tell me, does she know Everything you tried to hide? I wish that I could Talk myself out of this And walk my way out of this Or cry my way back into your mind. Well, who needs a heart? Clearly it's you Well, who needs a heart? Clearly it's you (3x)Sounds Like
