Single: The Challenge Artist: Lotus Label: Songs To Live And Die By Release Date: January 12th, 2016 Genre: Hip Hop Written by: Sarojini "Lotus" Lui Produced by: FancyN Length: 3:17
The Challenge is a promotional single by Chinese-American rapper Sarojini "Lotus" Lui, produced by Nina "Rum" Tarantino, under the producing name, FancyN. The song was written by Lui on January 11th, 2016 as a freestyle and it was released on January 12th fresh at midnight. It was made available to download digitally globally on the same day and the track is planned to premiere on US radio on January 13th, 2016. Musically, The Challenge is a rap song with Hip Hop production, it's instrumentation being based around riveting samples and a light weight drumline. A brass-like bass is often layered under the minimalist (at least minimalist compared to FancyN's usual work) beat. It's decorous approach overall gives the song a stern stance. This helps a lot while Lotus declares full dominance in her freestyle. "Only when I'm not trying to censor myself am I really at my best." Lotus says as she reveals that most of her songs start off as freestyles and only a selected few aren't later edited and re-touched. "With me, it's all about the aggression and the passion. When people hear me raise my voice, when they hear me cuss out somebody in my head, they really respond to that. [laughs] It's raw, it's authentic, you don't get emotion like that in those tightly constrained pop songs on the radio. Hip Hop is all about expressing yourself, it was created for the sole purpose of peeling back all filters and venting. It's something you almost never see these days and lately, I've been trying to rebuild my career solely off of that historical foundation."

I'ma do this all in one take, show y'all how rap is supposed to go Some of these girls don't even have a flow, some of these dudes can't write on they own Some of these rappers live as crow bait, I'd like to think I'm an old soul Y'all can go and pick off what you want, all that I've lived for will live on I think it's cute that y'all come for me Y'all don't even know where to go I'm 2 Legit, I'm untouchable Won't say y'all beneath me.. but, porcelain throne So full of shit, I just can't sit comfortable Stuck explaining what y'all supposed to know Stick to schooling kids on Twitter all the time Cause it's too late to learn when I start these nursery rhymes When I put my foot down, y'all have already crossed the line By the time I rise up, we all know it's dinner time And man, I'd really like it if the youth survived Live out they dreams and maybe even hit they prime Cause the last young buck to really try it? We still don't know where that chick is hiding I don't know why these civilians wilin', I never knew how to reign in silence Somebody told me to watch my own throne, but I just address my council I see they're out trying to redeem themselves but pop is pop and aggression is authenticity, that's all that counts, yo
I don't even have to count no mo', why do y'all think I switched labels? Independence is my first name, but bitches still think I'm Anabel [unable] My Weeknd's already been paid for, Earned It way back when I was calling out ringtones Left for years and picked up right where I left it at, starting to feel like I just can't go wrong But even I'm still tryna figure out this shit So put yo' hand down and dab out this bitch You ain't got none of them answers, Sway Ain't even hit you up for no questioning People stay trying to ride the wave But this rap shit is more than a trend We can keep acting like I'm new to this But my bars execute some of you veterans Stared at this paper and saw my twin, somebody go get Rum & Coke Just hit up the bank and now I swear I'm seeing double I know some of y'all thought my debut was too short but yall aint gotta worry bout that for too long Finally got my work ethic up, the deluxe version has turned into my sophomo' Now none of y'all are safe, not one of y'all are safe, man We ran the studio and hit it up with this flow like "same time tomorrow, fam?" Ain't no more sleep for the Wicked Witch of the East Side, said it's my time Put us all on the grind, I'm gon' make sure we all rise, 5'8 hoodlum throwing up the peace sign Yes I do think we can all shine, it's just that some of us shine brighter There's room for all of us at the top, some of us are gon' land higher I aspire to outdo myself, as long as myself is the challenge And with every track I prove myself to myself, y'all can't tell me nun' 'bout my talents Edited by user 12 January 2016 17:48:00(UTC)
