Following Vanity's biggest hit of her career comes her latest release, "New York"; a joyful, euphoric declaration of love to the pop superstar's home. This album has seen Vanity score some of her most critically acclaimed and successful work to date, featuring the chart-topping "Eyelids" and "Hallucinate", the latter managing a whole month at the top of the digital charts, before going onto winning Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the latest GOLDIE Awards.

With its breezy guitars that introduce the track, you may think it's a surprisingly mellow beginning to Vanity's latest single, but after just a few seconds, any worries are washed away as layers of hard-hitting beats come to the forefront of the track. This builds and builds to the song's explosive chorus where the beat evolves into something more chaotic and true to Vanity's musical style, as her vocals grow stronger even slightly erratic at moments.

"Sink into the pop culture, dance into the nightlife / We're at the roots of the skyline / And we light it up at night," Vanity sings proudly in the song, passionately singing about the atmosphere and blinding lights that she's become so accustomed to from a young age. The beautiful thing about "New York" is not only to see a native New Yorker like Vanity dedicate a song to it, but because it may be one of the most authentic songs we've heard to date from her. The lyrics are clearly coming from a passionately loyal place in Vanity's heart, and the song overall is a catchy earworm that's a little left-field from her peers, something Vanity's always managed to excel at.

Explaining the creation of the song, Vanity states, "In all my career, I've always wanted this song... it's as if it were the longest birth ever. I had to thank the place that made me who I am, and I really do thank New York for the career that I have now. It ignited so much passion and determination in my heart from such a young age, and I never stopped fighting from this, all thanks to my surroundings. I was taught that I could be whoever I wanted to be and my hard work would pay off, and there's nothing sweeter when it does. 'New York' was a real joy to finally write, it wasn't that I found it difficult creating this song, but it just had to come at a certain time. I'm at a stage in my career now where I'm happy with what I've achieved, so I felt it was the right time to dedicate my love to NY. I hope my fans enjoy this one as much as I do."

"New York"

Lyrics by Vanity.

Sounds like:

Just another city girl
Tryna find her way in the world
Wearin' a scent of vodka and weed
All eyes on me when I walk into the jungle
Where the crowds shuffle along to the trouble
Dreams laid out on the concrete
And we're wide awake while the world's asleep

Drink in the adrenaline
Oh, there's no comparison
That's why they all talk
About New York
Hear the atmosphere downtown
Where the blinding lights are all around
That's why they all talk
About New York

And you hear 'em talk, you hear 'em say
They wanna getaway today
Ooh, from the everyday
We're built for adventure
And we're ready to venture into the neon lights
We're just a taxi ride away from smoky wild nights

It's a love affair that's never ending
And there's no faking, no pretending
Cause I wouldn't wanna be anywhere
But New York
We're just a taxi ride away from the story of this NY soul
A taxi ride away from the center of the world
Oh, I wouldn't wanna be anywhere
But New York

Drink in the adrenaline
Oh, there's no comparison
That's why they all talk
About New York
Hear the atmosphere downtown
Where the blinding lights are all around
That's why they all talk
About New York

Grey picture fantasies now in reality's vivid colour
Sink into the pop culture, dance into the nightlife
We're at the roots of the skyline
And we light it up at night
We bring the buzz
And we're the heart of the noise
You gave me the voice and there's no other choice
I'm nothin' till I'm on the soil
Of you, New York
My sweet New York

Drink in the adrenaline
Oh, there's no comparison
That's why they all talk
About New York
Hear the atmosphere downtown
Where the blinding lights are all around
That's why they all talk
About New York

Johnny Carter: Vanity this is something different from the songs and mostly the singles that we hear on the radio etc.. I like it, of course it's about the city that never sleeps! Not sure if it'll do well on the charts but that's not the most important thing! Love you Vanityyy
