Title: Diamonds Writers: Gemma Kane, Christopher Hudson, Amelle Sebert (Miami) Recorded: 2015 Release Date: 6/27/16 Genre: Electro-Pop, R&B Producers: The Invisible Men Record Label: FivePeskyKids With the scorching hot summer in full effect, artists seem to be churning out new summer jams as they do every year. After releasing her EP Precious, performing at the Goldies, and currently filming her upcoming show for VH1, Gemma seems to be in no need of a rest as the summer roles around. Most recently, it has been confirmed that Gemma will host alongside Jayne Wriggle at the sixth annaul Fan Choice Awards set to air this summer. Still, that doesn't stop Gemma from releasing new music to the public. After the synth driven and sexy Neon Lights was chosen in favor of Diamonds as the previous single release from Precious, it seems that with the summer rolling around, this collaboration clearly has some sight on it, and it finally gets a release as fans have been waiting for an official release of this radio ready anthem that has been a favorite amongst Gemma's fanbase, and it's finally getting a proper release after being delayed in favor of Neon Lights.
Diamonds is an official single from pop singer Gemma Kane and is also included on Gemma's hit EP, "Precious" and features rap star Miami. The initial theme of the EP Precious has been very dynamic, as Gemma easily slid through pop smashes and showed off her confidence over tracks, especially in the first three tracks taken off of Precious. Sonically, not much changes in terms of attitude for the next track but sound-wise, Gemma introduces us to a new side of her, one of an urban edge as the next single comes upon us. Neon Signs was slightly mid tempoed but Diamonds turns things up a notch and has hit written all over it. The record "Diamonds" has been an anticipated record coming from the EP as it was announced as a future single but was never released due to Gemma being unable to properly promote the record after going on tour with The Wolverines, and then recording the rest of the EP and then choosing Neon signs as a single. Still, the record still has plenty of mileage to be released as a single as it has airplay smash written all over it. In an EP that has been mostly dance infused, "Diamonds" offers us an urban slice of pop music helmed by the Invisible Men as they give us a taste of Gemma's usual electro-pop sound but introduces us to some trap infused beat and an anthemic chorus that can easily get caught in your head with the singles finger snapping production and chanting bassline.
Consider "Diamonds" a natural continuation of the brash attitude that doesn’t bite the too hard like the previous record, mixed with some of the cocky, call out attitude heard on the over the top "Cruel". Diamonds was penned by Gemma Kane, Miami and Stat Nerd's member and songwriter Christopher Hudson. Over the catchy chorus, the girls proclaim their worth as they confidently sing about having dreams that glitter, the riches and having ambition. The song screams female anthem written all over it and is proven even more when the beats slow down when Miami hits the track. Miami gives a rest to her usual quick flow, but instead raps slowly and rather calmly to better fuse with the laid back production of the bridge. Miami raps about a man wo once stole her heart but come to find out, he is just a about a cheating fellow. The grit and anger and her flow grows when she talks about this mans ex showing up her house but ends off the verse with a clever diss as she raps: "Now I'm at the pawn shop trading these diamonds for a cut....$$$" before a cash register sound is heard as they cut back to the chorus and then the anthemic record comes to an end.
