TEACH is a single by Chinese-American rapper Sarojini "Lotus" Lui. The song was produced by Nina "Rum" Tarantino, under the producing name, FancyN and was written by Lui. It was released August 22nd, 2016 and was made available to download and sent to radio all on the same day. The song is a follow up to the previous single, "LEARN" and serves as the second lead single. Originally, it was intended to be the b-side but Lotus felt it to be too important to let it be overshadowed by it's catchier successor. Both songs are planned to be released and promoted at the same time, LEARN leaning more towards pop radio and TEACH leaning more towards rap radio. They will both serve as lead singles for the upcoming sophomore album, MUDPIE. Musically, TEACH is an Alternative Hip Hop song, it's instrumentation containing an experimental electronic sound, one that serves as something new for the radio to eat up. The most noticeable sound in the song is "feedback" also known as the sound that screeches out of the speakers when the microphone is too close. That sound is looped and pitched, accompanied by a reverbed sample of the sound and a few hard hitting beats to turn it into a full beat. This sets the perfect tone for Lotus, giving her freedom to create a simple melody over the beat and let her flow run wild. In the lyrics she calls herself an animal, letting everyone in her way that though she may be tame from time and make songs like LEARN where she seems to be more mature and placid, she can easily go right back to doing what we all know her best for, unleashing that raw flow of anger that only a rapper like her can provide. The song becomes more of a chant as she quickly switches from verse to hook, warning all newcomers, but she perfectly gets her point across in very few words, something rare for her, as she usually uses her ability to rap fast to unload bundles of syllables in mere seconds. When asked about the inspiration behind the song, Lotus explained, "On the album, there are a variety of songs and each one of them bring new meaning to the record. You have songs like LEARN which are all about me learning how to get over the petty shit and just make music, you know, do what I love, and then you have songs like TEACH that's all about teaching myself that it's okay to be mad and it's okay to let all that anger out, because sometimes people just try you and you gotta put your foot down, something I also love to do." When asked about the direction of the sound, she continued, "I don't follow no type of radio trends. As always, I do whatever the fuck I want, when I want and when I'm in the studio, the fate of my sound and my lyrics all rely on how I'm feeling for the day. The day I recorded TEACH, I was feeling like an outcast, like a nuisance, so naturally the obnoxious sound with the obnoxious beat was exactly what came out of me. There's no real method to my madness, I just let my emotions run wild."
