"I Just Can't" is a song by American Pop singer Serenity Scott. It was released on March 6th, 2017 through Five Pesky Kids. The song was written by Serenity Scott and Sunny Monroe, with production being handled by Mattman & Robin.
It's been three years since the singer released her previous single, "Who Needs A Heart?" and was also featured on The Wolverines track, "Beautiful Dream." Scott revealed she had been working on her third studio album but there was no set release date in mind yet. She did, however, reveal she she would be working with Sunny Monroe again, who wrote the singer's number one hit, "Freedom" making it her first number one single of her career. Scott says the album will be based on her experiences and transitioning from her last album to now, stating, "There will be some fun songs and some powerful songs. It'll be a fun mixture! Honestly, the album will just be an array of moments from my life and I get to be completely honest. This track is a transition from how I was before to how I am now. It's me telling everyone that I can't afford to be the person I was before or fall for the same tricks."
Lyrically, the song delivers a motivational message to her fans as Serenity belts out, "You know what!/I was never the one to sit quietly on my hands/I just can't!/ Can't believe you'd think I'd fall for this again" with the euphoric chant inviting you to scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs. Even though the production is pretty simplistic, it doesn't stop the song from being any less enjoyable. The lyrics are very open for interpretation, whether it's about a breakup, falling out with a close friend, or just simply a pep talk to get her head back in the game, Serenity clearly is a new woman. The song is miles away from the heart-wrenching "Who Needs A Heart" but it's a welcomed change. At the end of the song, Scott taunts the person as she sings, "I know you hate, know you, know you hate it" as if to give the icing on a pop perfect song.
