"Work My Body" is the lead single recorded by singer songwriter/reality TV star Stephanie Ortiz taken from her upcoming studio album "Rings" which is set to be released in July 2021 as an independent album release under the management of Freenerd Management. Stephanie Ortiz enlisted Daniel The Freenerd as producer and co-writer for the track which started its recording process as early as November 2020. The song also features vocals from Adam Black and XXX. The track underwent many changes over time, originally the track was only to feature upcoming rapper XXX but the song was changed as a pop duet with Adam Black and Ortiz respectively. Both XXX and Adam Black’s contribution were kept in the song’s final mixing in April 2021. The song was originally supposed to be titled "Rule My Body"; but lyrics were reworked to "Work My Body" in December of 2020.
In 2020, after Ortiz’s participation in the controversial reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother; Ortiz announced an unforeseeable pregnancy with Celebrity Big Brother co star Adam Black which pushed back all upcoming music project Ortiz had intended to release over the course of Summer and Fall 2020. Despite this as a treat to fans and to hold them over, a new single titled “Free To Love” was released and was met with favorable reviews from critics and fans. Ortiz hinted that “Love” would be a possible direction that she would expand on with the new album but due to Ortiz’s change in management and label, all recordings for the intended Fall 2020 album release were scrapped. After the birth of her twins, Faith and Fe, Ortiz announced via an Instagram post that she is hard back at work and the moment she gets her body back into healthy shape she will start releasing music. In April 2021 it was announced that “Work My Body” will be released as the lead single off “Rings”. A music video was filmed at Freenerd Studios on April 26, 2021 and was directed by Jake Nava, who’s worked on previous music videos with Stephanie Ortiz.
The song marks Ortiz’s return to her R&B/Pop signature sound that got her a start in the Rhythmic pop market. With heavy synths and infectious tropical production the song is a considered a perfect blend of the two genres. The song starts with a producer signature shout out; paying homage to Ortiz’s earlier work which would often include the producer’s name. This will also make the first song were Daniel The Freenerd is announced with a signature hashtag. The song vocally starts with Ortiz’s infectious flirty tone as she is joined by Adam Black in the second verse. Mr. Black’s vocals are somewhat rap/sung which introduces a new style the singer hadn’t approached before. His voice is deep and somewhat hoarse sounding bringing a masculine edge to the song. Ortiz then picks up with the third but is then joined by Mr. Black as they form a duet for the verse. During this verse, both Ortiz and Black are heard vocalizing together bringing an infectious harmony the original verse didn’t have. XXX then starts his rap verse with witty nursey rhyme words and laid back attitude which is something listeners haven’t heard previously from the rapper before. While his verse is very subtle it provides an additional layer the song didn’t have. Ortiz then picks up the song with the bridge and additional verses as Mr. Black is heard vocalizing after her. During this verse, the chemistry between Ortiz and Black is heard the most as they both exchange powerful vocal moments before bringing the song to an end. The only thing left is for you to put it on repeat.
“Visually I’ve had this song in my head for years even though we started working on the sounds for it during fall of last year. It’s very simple but it’s also very infectious. I specifically wanted to release this song in the summer because it has that throwback summer vibe and I know people will enjoy that. I didn’t want the song to be over the top in production, but I definitely wanted to create ear candy that a pop audience will enjoy. Serving as the lead single off my project that puts a lot of pressure because there’s a lot more to offer on the album, but this is my way of just starting off the era that’s been long awaited by my fans. I wanted the music video to also bring this song to life. I want to bring technical hip hop dancing back because these new girls move like chopsticks on stage and it’s cute and all, but we need some sort of revival and I’m putting those responsibilities on my shoulders. Anyways, I also wanted to create a moment for me and Adam Black we really haven’t been too mainstream with Hollywood on our relationship, and we definitely keep things super private. I’ve always been a firm believer that certain aspects of my life are to remain private but not on anyone else’s terms but mine. This song gives you that insight into our fun world that we don’t really get to share with the public.”
