Bag of Bones is a single by the singer Aikya Balan. The song was produced by longtime collaborator FancyÑ and written by Aikya Balan with a featured verse from Kyle of BYS. One of the livelier dance tracks from her hit Halloween-themed album, "The Bewitching Hour", Bag of Bones is the first song to be released from the record. STudio60 Records sent the track to radio on December 5th, 2022 with additional promotion from Dahlhouse Entertainment. What makes this particular release interesting is that it features an official clean edit for radio, as it is an extremely explicit song in it's original format. The clean version takes on a life of it's own, instead of blurting out the explicit words, Aikya Balan and KYLE audibly moans in their absence.
Musically, Bag of Bones is a Dancehall record. The carefully crafted instrumental uses classic Afro-Carribean instruments like the guiros, shakers and wood claves to create a bouncy percussive sound. The only thing missing from the record is a strong Carribean accent. Even though Aikya Balan is of Jamaican and Indian descent, she shows that one does not have to appropriate the culture and tongue of the West Indies in order to make a good Dancehall track.
Bag of Bones is a sexual song about making your partner exhausted during intimacy. In the lyrics, Aikya Balan compares her partner's fatigued body to that of a lifeless skeleton, promising to teach him how to last even longer. "Usually, when you hear a song about sex it caters to a woman's needs and pleasures. I wanted to make a record that centered the male orgasm." Aikya Balan comments on the song and her intention behind it. "It's not every day you hear a woman tell her partner she wants him to climax first because a lot of people assume once a male climaxes, sex is over. I made this song to show that's far from the truth and inspire more people out there to explore the male body and see just how far they can go."
