“Toxic Shit” is a song by Spanish-American artist Kara Romero and rapper Younghood, it follows from their confirmation in the summer of 2024 that they’ve been working on a project together, led by the lead single “Love Dealer” which peaked at number one in June 2024 and created some buzz over this potential collaborative project between the two artists. Although things have been quiet since the release of that lead single, it’s been confirmed that the duo have been working in the studio together for quite some time on a non-specific timeframe, throwing ideas around together and seeing what they can come up with without any real pressure on deadlines or any of the other pressure baggage that comes with such a project. However, Kara did recently let slip on an Instagram live conversation between herself and Younghood that although they weren’t sure what the project was initially, time in the studio together made it clear what the project would entail between them, here’s what she said during the Instagram live conversation;

Quote:
“It literally started by me asking Nire to hang out in my studio in Brooklyn for a couple of days, trying to get that inspiration back after my previous album. We threw around a couple of ideas, drank a little, smoked a lot and before we knew it we had like the basis of three or four tracks that we thought were different enough from anything we’ve done previously on our own. We did ask ourselves if this was an album early on, but I think we would have been putting too much pressure on a project that naturally felt pretty casual, so we quickly figured out it wasn’t that sort of project. But we kept coming back together and finishing things and starting new stuff and we knew we’d have maybe six or seven really fun tracks that felt like a huge change from what we’ve done previously on our solo stuff.
“Love Dealer” came out of us pretty early and we figured we’d release it and see what the interest is like and it did better than we would have ever expected, so we started to make it a more official arrangement, before you know it, we were spending like fourteen hour days in the studio some days. I think both being solo artists, we sort of vibed on having each other to bounce ideas off of in a different way than we do with our producers on solo projects.”

The track was written in September 2024 by Kara Romero and Younghood and was recorded and produced by Kara Romero and Younghood. “Toxic Shit” was recorded at Basement Studios in Brooklyn, New York and will be released via ‘Just Record’. The track will be released on January 8, 2025 and will be made available via CD Single, Digital Download, 7” Single as well as being made available to Weekly Airplay and Worldwide Streaming.

Song Description;

The track is a slower-tempo track which heavily features low-fi hip-hop beats throughout, it’s slower paced tempo adds to the sultry, seductive and at times dirty feel to the songs content with a track about a relationship based on passion and one-upmanship throughout, as Younghood delivers the opening verse with a deep vocal delivery and a calm ice-cold approach, “Let’s set it up we got the wholesome family fun/We’re in the crib with me being the good host and son/Now I’m not a preacher, but I know how to pray/I’m a good person, at least I try to be anyway/You know but sometimes, well it gets hard/Life can be rough. You can’t clear that bar/Type to get it in the mud, through the dirt/Fight through pain and blood, it’s gonna hurt/I get to that point, where I’m throwing all the fucks.” as the verse progresses the vocal delivery from Younghood becomes a little more assertive as the bpm increases slightly, adding an element of urgency and passion to the second half of his opening verse, “The ties getting undone, the shirts are untucked/I go back to those old habits, gripped by my vices/I have a mean streak that comes out the nicest/When I snap, the look on people’s face, priceless/When it’s go time, no questions only action/I’m not making any apologies, fuck Miss Jackson/She needs to roll the dice, hope she doesn’t fail/Otherwise, little Timmy is going to have a story to tell.”

As Younghood finishes his opening verse, setting the tone of the track without making it too obvious where things are headed but hinting at the direction, Kara arrives as she delivers the songs chorus which really removes any element of subtlety on the tracks subject matter, her sultry vocal delivery meshing well with the slow-tempo vibe, “Nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit/They say that love and hate are two sides of the same damn coin and I’mma bag that purse/I’mma get into some drama real quick/Cause when we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it/I’mma get into some drama real quick/Ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit/When we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it/Yeah, ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit.” which serves it’s purpose on delivering home the theme of the track and creating a catchy chorus that is likely to get stuck in the listeners head throughout.

Following on from the chorus, Kara delivers her first verse of the track, proving that there’s no turning back now that the chorus is in the rear view mirror and the songs tone and theme has been fully put on display, where Younghood delivered a subtle hint at the direction, Kara blows the doors wide open with unapologetic vivid imagery to flip the track on its head completely, “I like my love with a little toxic shit/And I heard your ex is back on the scene/Hit her up on the phone while I’m sucking that dick/I’mma ride that shit so she can hear me scream/I’mma yell out your name so she knows what she’s missing/Call it lust at first sight cause this is my addiction/Won’t stop till’ you’re on top/With your hands over my mouth so I can’t beg for submission/Dig my nails in deeper/Cause I know it makes you thrust a little harder/First taste of the crazy/You’ve turned me into a monster.” she delivers with confidence and an aura of passion throughout, painting a vivid picture in a stark contrast to the songs subtle opening and doubling down on the vivid imagery in her lyrics, “Shouting, screaming, throwing shit across the room/Tell me you’re leaving/Knowing you’ll be back real soon/Cause you got that addiction to toxic shit just like me/It gets me wild when you on that jealousy shit/Holding me down, tongue real deep, giving me head/Shuddering thighs, shaking legs/Making me cum, over and over and over again/Feasting on me tonight/Just to prove yourself/Come back again with that dopamine hit/I like my love with a little toxic shit.”

With the graphic nature of her verse, we’re given the songs chorus once more before Younghood returns to close out the track with the final verse, opting to match Kara’s vivid lyricism and truly throwing the subtlety out of the window, fully painting the picture of a toxic addictive relationship built purely on passion, “Fuck the clean shit, I’ve been tainted with the drama/I get a rush when I know you’re on the phone with your mama/Pretending to be professional, watch me break that mask/When you’re trying to be nice and sweet, I’m on your ass/Don’t ever get caught slipping, I’m always for the thrill/Watch you going ape shit on the tiniest of ant hills/And that is the spot that you would die on, bet/The only thing that is better than the fight?/Is the setup for what comes next/The break up to the make-up, that’s the relationship/These fake situationships can’t take the stress they chip/Crack and rumble, but you know you can’t really quit me/Soft vanilla sex, now is just boring and creepy.” he raps over the beat, lingering on specific words to add to the sultry nature of the track, “You don’t want love with rose petals and candlelight/Back of the car with the windows fog, blocking the sight/Blood and scratches, hoping the cops don’t come over tonight/Cause if they do they going to send me away thinking of a fight/And you couldn’t think of anything better/The more fucked up it is for me, just got wetter, didn’t you?/Lie all you want, cut the tires, tell your friends/Soon we’ll be back together with you ready to make amends.” and it truly delivers home the elements to a truly toxic relationship as the songs chorus returns once more to close out the track.

“Let’s set it up we got the wholesome family fun
We’re in the crib with me being the good host and son
Now I’m not a preacher, but I know how to pray
I’m a good person, at least I try to be anyway
You know but sometimes, well it gets hard
Life can be rough. You can’t clear that bar
Type to get it in the mud, through the dirt
Fight through pain and blood, it’s gonna hurt
I get to that point, where I’m throwing all the fucks
The ties getting undone, the shirts are untucked
I go back to those old habits, gripped by my vices
I have a mean streak that comes out the nicest
When I snap, the look on people’s face, priceless
When it’s go time, no questions only action
I’m not making any apologies, fuck Miss Jackson
She needs to roll the dice, hope she doesn’t fail
Otherwise, little Timmy is going to have a story to tell

Nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit
They say that love and hate are two sides of the same damn coin and I’mma bag that purse
I’mma get into some drama real quick
Cause when we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it
I’mma get into some drama real quick
Ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit
When we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it
Yeah, ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit

I like my love with a little toxic shit
And I heard your ex is back on the scene
Hit her up on the phone while I’m sucking that dick
I’mma ride that shit so she can hear me scream
I’mma yell out your name so she knows what she’s missing
Call it lust at first sight cause this is my addiction
Won’t stop till’ you’re on top
With your hands over my mouth so I can’t beg for submission
Dig my nails in deeper
Cause I know it makes you thrust a little harder
First taste of the crazy
You’ve turned me into a monster
Shouting, screaming, throwing shit across the room
Tell me you’re leaving
Knowing you’ll be back real soon
Cause you got that addiction to toxic shit just like me
It gets me wild when you on that jealousy shit
Holding me down, tongue real deep, giving me head
Shuddering thighs, shaking legs
Making me cum, over and over and over again
Feasting on me tonight
Just to prove yourself
Come back again with that dopamine hit
I like my love with a little toxic shit

Nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit
They say that love and hate are two sides of the same damn coin and I’mma bag that purse
I’mma get into some drama real quick
Cause when we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it
I’mma get into some drama real quick
Ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit
When we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it
Yeah, ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit

Fuck the clean shit, I’ve been tainted with the drama
I get a rush when I know you’re on the phone with your mama
Pretending to be professional, watch me break that mask
When you’re trying to be nice and sweet, I’m on your ass
Don’t ever get caught slipping, I’m always for the thrill
Watch you going ape shit on the tiniest of ant hills
And that is the spot that you would die on, bet
The only thing that is better than the fight?
Is the setup for what comes next
The break up to the make-up, that’s the relationship
These fake situationships can’t take the stress they chip
Crack and rumble, but you know you can’t really quit me
Soft vanilla sex, now is just boring and creepy
You don’t want love with rose petals and candlelight
Back of the car with the windows fog, blocking the sight
Blood and scratches, hoping the cops don’t come over tonight
Cause if they do they going to send me away thinking of a fight
And you couldn’t think of anything better
The more fucked up it is for me, just got wetter, didn’t you?
Lie all you want, cut the tires, tell your friends
Soon we’ll be back together with you ready to make amends

Nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit
They say that love and hate are two sides of the same damn coin and I’mma bag that purse
I’mma get into some drama real quick
Cause when we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it
I’mma get into some drama real quick
Ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit
When we fight we fuck and I’m the typa bitch that love it
Yeah, ain’t nobody wanna admit that it’s fun to get into a little toxic shit”

Billy: I'm really fucking looking forward to this project and we're only two songs in. Though with two of my favourite current talents coming together, you guys could just rhyme off a bunch of different takeaway menus and I'd eat that shit up. I can't say I relate to the lyrics here. Everyone knows I'm far from toxic. I'm a peace loving guy, you know? Also not really the right person to comment on songs that talk about fucking and cumming. I'm too demure for that ;)

Haha, seriously though this track is HOT in every single aspect. The lyrical content, the production, the chemistry between you both. This is going to be in heavy fucking rotation in my collection for a long time coming. It's totally my vibe in every aspect. YH is also so right. Soft, vanilla sex is boring. It's 2025 for fuck sake. Get the electrodes out!
