Artist: Jadyn Ghalen
Title: “Don’t Get Too Comfortable”
Genre(s): Hip Hop • Rap • Trap
Length: 5:28
Director: Eduardo Ferreira, Jadyn Ghalen
Location: Miami, Florida

Music Video Concept;

“Don’t Get Too Comfortable” the music video highlights the themes of success, fame, the relentless pursuit of greatness and the instability of being at the very top that come through in the songs lyrical content. The video showcases the lure of success and the temptations and traps that come with that, beginning with the want and ambition for that highly luxurious lifestyle, briefly showcasing the work and connections you need in order to get yourself onto that pathway to success which then transitions forward into visions of the success coming to fruition in the form of luxury cars, beautiful women, mansions and various objects of luxury. The third act of the music video begins with images of the success with the metaphor of being sat at the head of the table being a poignant one before the final run of scenes showcases the downside to the perceived ‘sold soul’ with raw images of Jadyn Ghalen looking down the camera, forlorn, exhausted and effectively destroyed by the morals left behind in the pursuit of greatness.

The music video begins with beautifully shot images of Jadyn Ghalen in a confessional booth, talking about his ambition and drive to be successful. In the opposite booth is a beautiful young woman that listens to Jadyn’s wants and accepts his wishes and promises that his dreams will come true but they will come at a cost. That cost being his soul in exchange for the lifestyle that he desires. The metaphor to this scene indicates that the woman is playing a god-like figure that has the power of controlling everything, setting the story of the song in motion and already hinting at the old adage of “be careful what you wish for”. As the opening scene plays out the intro to the song begins and the opening lyrics can be heard;

“Don’t get too comfortable, don’t get too comfortable
Don’t get too comfortable, don’t get too comfortable
Don’t get too comfortable, don’t get too comfortable
Don’t get too comfortable, yeah, don’t get too comfortable”

As the scene progresses, it shows the first tastes of the lifestyle that Jadyn was promised as he’s playing the piano just outside of a huge mansion, hinting at the success already beginning for him, he plays the piano on his own in front of the mansion before a woman comes out and watches him perform. It appears from the scenes that she’s a woman that holds some power or authority which gives the scenes a metaphor that although Jadyn has been given the promise of being a success and being on top of the world, there’s someone above him keeping an eye on her investment. Meshing the music video with the songs overall theme of “Don’t Get Too Comfortable” and “Your position on top” being vulnerable. The addition of this woman that appears to be a much more powerful entity seems to hint at that idea. As the scenes progress the song plays over it;

“I been down this path before, felt all the highs and the lows, took a while but I’ve cracked the code
Never stand still, never bored, money at a surplus
Drowning in pussy, can’t reach the surface
They all want a piece of the action, fuck with me, guaranteed satisfaction
In the studio, on the record, on the stage
In the bedroom, on the balcony, in the pool, out of state
Either way they screaming out my name
I’mma make it real clear from the offset, I won’t hesitate
Droppin’ diamonds, rockin’ fine golds
Finest Cubans, poppin’ pills, top down on the Benz, they call me king of Beverly Hills
I don’t fuck with small bills, I do it all exclusive, top shelf, expensive thrills
All night long, ain’t nobody gonna stop me
Came out to California to work
But this life one big party”

The next scenes see’s Jadyn walking away looking solemn as he metaphorically steps away from his old life, pondering whether he made the right choice. The woman playing a god-like figure that granted him his wish of being wildly successful and wealthy is seen driving away in a beautiful vintage car. The next scene arrives as the songs chorus plays over an image of a beautiful woman laying poolside, which showcases the idea of Jadyn’s wish being granted as the songs chorus can be heard over these shots;

”Don’t get too comfortable, don’t get too comfortable
Your position on top is so vulnerable
So vulnerable
Every day making moves, ain’t ever gonna make me stop
Can’t always guarantee your position on top
Don’t get too comfortable
Yeah, don’t get too comfortable”

Scenes of that lifestyle and all that Jadyn desires are shown as more beautiful women are showcased hanging out around poolside, shots of them looking seductive and alluring potentially signalling a metaphor that the ambition and fruits of your labour may be enticing but at what cost. Jadyn is then seen inside of his own mansion with women all around him rapping the second verse of the song which puts more of an emphasis on luxury and that high class lifestyle, clutching at gold jewellery just put more clarity on the message of his lyrics;

“Everybody want a piece, rolling in the hills
Living luxury, top shelf shit
Cultured tastes, expensive thrills
Guest list on max out
Never sleeping, ain’t ever tapped out
Pretty bitches so relentless, always stunting
Pussy poppin’
Top droppin’
Attitude adjustment when I get em’ humming
Begging pleas, on their knees
Papi Chulo got em’ coming
Relentless on my shit, ain’t enough hours
Don’t get too comfortable
Can’t get too comfortable
Won’t get too comfortable
Can’t keep up with the game that I’m running
Yeah, even I can’t keep up with the game that I’m running”

Shots of Jadyn in a red suit, sat in a room within his mansion, again surrounded by attractive women as he raps and gestures before the scene cuts to Jadyn sat in another room at the head of the table as a metaphor to his now new-found power and success, again the women surrounding him as he raps over the beat. The women are constantly attentive with all eyes on Jadyn as he delivers his lyrics taken from the songs chorus. These penultimate scenes showing that he has the lifestyle that he asked for in those opening scenes;

”Don’t get too comfortable, don’t get too comfortable
Your position on top is so vulnerable
So vulnerable
Every day making moves, ain’t ever gonna make me stop
Can’t always guarantee your position on top
Don’t get too comfortable
Yeah, don’t get too comfortable”

With the final scenes set for the video, it suddenly cuts to a lone figure of Jadyn standing in a darkly lit room, occasionally glancing at the camera showcasing a weariness, exhausted and defeated look on his face in raw images that show a vulnerability to the artist. The closing scenes just putting the final emphasis on the music videos theme of “be careful what you wish for” and “all that glitters is not gold” which mesh perfectly with the songs chorus and primary message of “Don’t get too comfortable” and “your position on top is so vulnerable”. Although the video features many aspects of the lifestyle that are most appealing, especially within the rap scene it also showcases the emptiness in those final looks to the camera from Jadyn, just as a hint that “this lifestyle isn’t for everybody”. As the songs chorus plays out once more over those stark images;

”Don’t get too comfortable, don’t get too comfortable
Your position on top is so vulnerable
So vulnerable
Every day making moves, ain’t ever gonna make me stop
Can’t always guarantee your position on top
Don’t get too comfortable
Yeah, don’t get too comfortable”

OOC: This was such a great read! I love music videos and if I had the time, I'd write up one for every single release but alas, there isn't enough bloody time in the world lol. They always add a level of realism and I always enjoy seeing people's takes and interpretations on already existing music videos and making something different out of it!
