 Title: Funky, Sex, Magic Length: 3:48 Genre(s): Pop, Funk-pop, Electropop Label: Independent/Self-Released Written By: Elyar Black Produced By: Daniel Hansel, Greg Devlin Taken From The Album: Self Refection “Funky, Sex, Magic” is the fourth single to be taken from Elyar Black’s second studio album. “Self Refection” it is the follow ups from the three previous singles two of which became number one singles. The track was written by Elyar Black and lyrically discusses the topic of the magic of sexual intercourse and how it can be fun and funky, the track has a total runtime of three minutes and forty-eight seconds making it one of the longest tracks released so far from this album era. Production for the track was handled by Daniel Hansel alongside Greg Devlin whom have both worked extensively on the album as a whole but the first time the duo have teamed up on a track. Critical reception to “Funky, Sex, Magic has been mostly positive with many critics loving how upbeat and funky the production of the track is in comparison to the rest of the singles and the entire album as a whole. Jessamyn Adam’s wrote in her review. “Okay this is so upbeat and funky it kinda feels out of place in comparison to everything else from this era so far but I am not mad because this definitely is gonna be stuck in my head that’s for sure, I love this it’s fun, it’s funky and fresh.” Elliot Cane wrote in his review. “It’s been pretty doom and gloom so far from Elyar in this era, this track is a breath of fresh air as it’s actually a fun, funky disco-ish track, sure it is talking about sex which Elyar is kinda known from but who cares it’s actually done tastefully for a change.” Faye McBride wrote in her review. “A tasteful, funky disco inspired sex anthem, I actually don’t hate it, I do feel it’s maybe a bit out of place given that I’ve listened to his album in full at this point but this is such a bop that I don’t think many of his fans will care all that much, my only negative would be the amount of effects and such on his vocals, we know his not the best singer but still it’s a little overkill!”. Emily Milton wrote in her review. “Funky production check, gets stuck in your head check, typical Elyar’s talking about sex, check but this is such a fun track in the middle of his albums tracklist that is mostly full on midtempo bops that have a more dark or negative vibe so it’s a breath of fresh air to the ears that is for sure.” Elyar wrote:”So I know I teased this a few days ago, finally it is time to drop “Funky, Sex, Magic”. I know many will feel this track is a little out of place on the album as a whole but I didn’t want the entire album to be about doom and gloom, heartbreak or how I have totally screwed up over the years I wanted some fun and funky…this was the result.
