lets see... Afganistan, the graveyard of empires.... Should we be there now? should we have ever gone in?
in my honest opinion we shouldn't be there now, we should never have been there (this is from the perspective of the UK not US). There was and still is no real reason for our armed forces to be deployed in such a hot zone, clear evidence of this is the mission drift that has happend over the years. We have no simple clear aims and that will be the death knell of us. |
I hate it when people see me at the supermarket and they are like: Hey, what are you doing here? and im just like: Oh you know, hunting elephants |

Should we have gone & should we still be there are two radically different questions.
We should not have gone, but now that we are there it would be irresponsible to leave. Frankly we have to stay in Afgahnistan for the long haul. And I'm talking about decades, like still having military bases in Germany until after the wall came down. I think we still do actually, I know the Yanks do. But yeah, it's not going to be pretty, but it would be morally irresponsible to leave now. I'm no supporter of democracy but if it's going to be introduced then do it properly, weed out the corruption and actually improve life in the country for the people. And that will take decades. |

Probably not but the Allies have made their bed in regards to Afghanistan and they now have to be there long term to acheive their aims instead of leaving the country in a mess. |

Ferenghi Rule of Acquisition #34 - War is good for business.
And America does love business (more than it values human life). |
