The Nimrods once again return to the music scene, this time heavier than ever. The band's latest single The Last Gate is probably their heaviest song to date.The song is 13 minutes and 45 seconds and while it still has several tempo changes it stays heavy and brutal. The riffs are faster and use more palm muting and the drums lose their usual versatility to turn to a style of rapid blast beats. Davey's bass stays technical and is still highlighted with the song having a 2 minute bass interlude, the softest part of the song. The vocals use Jimmy's signature growl but also show cases his high pitched shrieks. Lyrically the song is about the defenses of an Atheist philosopher's being shattered and him being found so he can be tried. Jimmy Him said this about the release. "We were just really pissed so this song and its b-sides will be the most aggressive part of the album with the rest being more progressive." single showcases a lot of Jimmy's guitar playing with a 3 minute outro solo that has several techniques but isn't too show offy. It's considered the best Jimmy has ever done and has been compared to Metallica's "Fade to Black", Pantera's "Floods", and Ozzy Osbourne's "Mr.Crowley" Davey's bass work was also compared to that of Metallica's Cliff Burton and Rush' Geddy Lee.The band doesn't expect reviews to be too positive but are proud of the song.
