personally, i think its all garbage, but i believe those who listen to it do so for the addictive hooks peppered throughout the songs.
take "love story" by taylor swift; the tune featured in the "band hero" video game commercial. the song is over 4 minutes long, and although most of it is just background noise, it does pick up a bit when the chorus kicks in.
i envision soccer moms monotonously humming along to these pop songs while driving their mini-vans to and fro, but then singing at the top of their lungs when the hooks set in.

My theory is the record companies just find a tune that instantaneously gets stuck in your head and then over expose it so you are forced to know EVERY SINGLE GODDAM WORD! CURSE YOU LADY GAGA!!!!!!!!! I HAVE HAD PAPARAZZI STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR A WEEK! |

My theory is that taste varies from person to person. People like pop music because they like it, at the same time you like Metal (or whatever you listen to) because you like Metal. |
I own:
Andrew Guinnard (Post-punk/acoustic) Lucy Tankeray (Pop diva/weird) |

i listen to every genre of music. i just don't think what is often played on the radio is actually music. its completely dumbed down, and is mostly derivative of stuff thats been done before. when you hear a new song on the radio your mind instantly recognizes it, and you're able to follow along, because the music industry uses specific formulas to crank out hits for the masses.

If you hate Pop Music so much why do you talk about it so much. What is it doing to you that is getting you all worked up. Do you feel like the genre's you listen aren't getting recognized or something? Because if you want them to get recognized that would make them Pop. The radio is not meant to play un-popular music. Most people nowadays listen to the radio while they are traveling in their cars. What most families want to hear is something bubbly and catchy. Obviously the radio makes money off ratings. And they are not going to play UNPOPULAR music. Honestly people who say they don't like pop music in this forum(which is fine) don't even talk about it. You don't see them making threads such as this one. And Yes sometimes they post on threads that have to do with Pop (because it is their right) but they don;t get all worked up like you do because they aren't ignorant like you. Music is music and it will not appeal to everyone. You don't have like every genre or listen to every genre to know or feel music.

i like pop music. i just don't like crap music. sadly, the industry has completely sold out. the big record labels no longer cater to those who listen to a wide variety of genres, nor do they cater to those who know and appreciate the history of modern music. because such a large percent of people get their music for free they don't care about it anymore. they're fed shit, and they still eat it up. these people will play a song to death, and when they get sick of it they just delete it from their hard-drive. And why should that matter. Music is music. If you like a song is because you like it. No one is forcing you to like it. It's not hurting no one. That's why I feel like your whining is pointless. Is like you this saying to a person who has AIDS. You: Why do you have AIDS? Me: Because I do man now stop being so rude. You: But why do have AIDS, what the hell has society come to, I have AIDS man but I got it in the 80's. Me: Dude a disease is a disease. You: But my disease is not as bad as yours! Me: What? piece of advice... stay away from the analogies. you're not that clever. your AIDS dialogue was retarded. and for the record music isn't music. what you call music i would never call music. there are no reputable critics in this world who like what you like. its sad that on the "music board" here there are no threads discussing meaningful bands or legendary artists. maybe if this place wasn't so overrun with bad taste people like me wouldn't be trashing it constantly. My "metaphor" makes more since than your post big time. Music isn't music. AIDS isn't AIDS. Does that really make sense? And for your info, this board has acknowledge many meaningful and legendary bands and if this forum is not for you why haven't you left already. Edited by user 17 November 2009 12:32:22(UTC)

trust me at any other music site more people would favor my opinion than yours.
by saying music is music you insinuated that all music is the same, and should be respected as such. thats just ridiculous.
what i meant by saying music isn't music is that i disagree with your above statement. i think even you could have figured it out had you thought about it for a few seconds.

Who gives a fuck in the end anyway...people will listen to what they want to, I'll go off and listen to my black metal and what not, others will go off and listen to Beyonce, Lady Gaga and so on. It's not always ideal but you can always dig your way through the mire and find labels that promote decent music that interests you. |
_____________ The Black Gates- Progressive technical metal The Infidels!- Retro doom funk grindcore The Graveyard Sluts- dirty, slutty rawwwwk Psycopathologist- old school death grind Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it's just that your's is stupid. |

Just leave you fool, this site does not discriminate music (it looks like that's what you enjoy), and if the "imaginary site" that you were in was so great why did you leave.
