Anyone see this movie or know about Tim? If so, do you think he was crazy or do you believe in what he did.

Either way, its very sad...

I wouldn't call him crazy immediately, just stupid. incredibly stupid. People don't get that the park officials KNOW what they're talking about when they warn about bears. Idiots like Tim fail to remember that bears are truly wild animals, they cannot be domesticated, no matter how hard you try. The only thing I hated about it was that that faggot had to get his girlfriend killed too. What's worse is that the fucking douchebag that profited off the film "insists" that the holder of the audio recording of the attack should be destroyed. How dare he, he already took into possession over 100 hours of footage by Tim, why the fuck should we be denied that sum of all recordings? This is really just another sob story about a bunch of imbeciles who thought they were God.

This originally my idea too, but after reading into it a bit more, it appears that he actually did serve as some sort of help to the bears, as in the 13 years he stayed there, no bear was poached, but in the 3 years after his death, nearly 7 bears were killed.

Uh, that's a bit of an over-reaction.

I have not seen the film, but I have heard of it. As I understand it, the guy was no idiot. He was able to do things nobody else had ever done in terms of living with bears. He was hardly claiming they were cuddly and harmless - and it's not like his girlfriend didn't know the risks. Sure I don't think trying to interact with a bear like that in its natural habitat is a particularly great idea, but then I don't think smoking cigarettes is a particularly great idea and apparently several people do that. The problem with a lot of documentaries is that you have to find a story, and the story in this case could either be "this guy is a loony" or "this guy was a genius" and considering he died, it's obvious which one of those is the most realistic.

But look at Steve Irwin. He died because he got too close to a wild animal, as he had done thousands of times before, it just so happened that this one stingray was the one that eventually killed him. So what happens after that? A bunch of fucking morons dive into the sea to kill stingrays in revenge, as if they were all working in cahoots to plan Irwin's death. But prior to the stingray, he'd not only gotten away with it, he had done it to educate, to entertain, and ultimately he knew the risks going in.

This bear guy, he died doing something he believed in, and eventually he got caught out. It's certainly his fault, but that doesn't mean he deserved it.

I say he did deserve it, on account that wild animals should be left by themselves in their parks, people don't NEED to interact with them and I hardly think animals would give a shit.

That may be true, but like I said earlier about the bears being poached after he died, not killed by angry fans, poached by real poachers.

Shock horror, you have a backwards & insular view. AMAZING!

There was a really great documentary on the BBC recently about this dude, Lynn Rogers, who has basically lived next to black bears for the past. Obviously grizzlies are a much more aggressive species. But the fact remains that many people do manage to work perfectly safely among animals. It's vital research.

But you are a Christian, a protestant at that, and lets not forgot what the man who led the reformation thought about knowledge.

Backwards how, just because I think differently than you, just because I don't feel the need to conform to what every fucking atheist want to force me to believe. Sure I
could accept the scientific reality and ideologies for life, but I just couldn't give a crap about that. Why? Because it fucking pricks like you who honestly believe that their
way of thinking is the only rational one to be applied in any case. Realize that protestanism branches into different denominations, with different doctrines, and different practices, who are you to know what you're talking about when you only read the synopsis.
Might I ask you, vital research for what? What the fuck does researching bears even hope to accomplish? Does there blood magically cure cancer, can they fly?

Just a guess here, but I would think the research was more about understanding the behaviour of bears, and perhaps trying to conserve their numbers as Humanity naturally obliterates the habitats and food sources of bear species worldwide...

The way you describe atheism sounds like the exact way an atheist describes a religion. For the 18th time this month, science is not a set-in-stone dogma, science is an ongoing process of trying to understand the universe from the bottom up, DEVOID of grand mythology and cheap explanations. The reason to research bears is to understand more about them, and to by extension learn more about the world around us. Religion is a human-centric substitute for learning. Why ask hard questions when God gives easy answers? Science celebrates new ideas while religion reviles and censors them. It's almost like God told you one thing about bears, and you think it's better not to try and learn more in case it turns out what God says wasn't right.

1. I was generalizing, which doesn't apply to you entirely.
2. You're repeating what I've already stated. in other words that is.
3. Hmm, lemme think if humans have hunted mammals and fish for millenia, why would we stop just now. What would that really accomplish vs. the reality of what's left to be saved not numbering anywhere near what we've killed off. Also, how many people regularly eat bear meat in the first place? I honestly thought beef/chicken/pork/fish had become staples...

I don't think many people eat bear, but the obvious truth is that due to overpopulation, environmental destruction and over-harvesting, there's simply not enough food to feed everyone in the world, and if we don't have enough grain for people then we certainly don't have enough for livestock. So that's meat off the menu. Certain people in certain places need to stop having children and fast, such a shame that contraception is viewed as amoral in these cultures (thanks in no small part to the fact that the Pope thinks starving kids with AIDS and no clean drinking water is better in the eyes of God than wasting a single drop of human ejaculate), and the rest of us have to stop importing cheap beef from the Farmland Formerly Known as the Amazon Rainforest, and maybe start eating more seasonally appropriate, locally produced crops.

Bears tend to get killed where people chop down forests and the bears wander into the Housing Estate Formerly Known as the Forest, or in the case of Polar Bears, because their homeland is literally melting beneath their feet due to hyper-accelerating man-made global warming... But just because you're studying bears, doesn't mean you don't care about the ecosystem as a whole. Bears are top of their food chain, which automatically puts them at major risk should any lower link in the chain become depleted. All it takes is a shortage of salmon one year, and many bears will simply starve to death. And if the salmon were short because of overfishing, then that's our fault.

And besides, they're bears. Why would you not want to know more about bears?

I dont' disagree, cept for the global warming farce. I'm assuming you're one of those people who watch the same global warming threat video with the polar bear and cub on the broken glacier that's been played continuously and the whole recycle bullshit for almost 2 years.. but I could be wrong. Damn chinese pplz, why the fuck do they overpopulate when they're so dirt poor, they need to get AIDS instead of africa where.... oh wait... africa would be the same. Honestly, I see africa as a forsaken land, where they chose to stay primitive and continue their uncivilized actions for no good reason. That's why they have AIDS, why do we(in america, I have no idea if you guys not from here have the commercials) have to pay to save these kids from an incurable disease and life. Sure, they could go to school and get 3 squares.. but where the fuck would they get jobs in their country? Last I checked, the governments hoarded their money and are not gonna change anytime soon. +They are still so dumb despite international efforts, that witch doctors still exist and spread their idiotic ideas throughout.

I don't know what video you're talking about, but it seems to me that you're saying Africa is being punished for being unimaginably poor. But you're right, you certainly don't have to pay to help save these kids, most of whom don't even have access to a proper education. After all, they're so far away... Why should you spare a little money, that you don't really need, to help people suffering unimaginably in some distant ex-colonial countries that you'll never even meet? I mean, it's their own fault for choosing to be born in Africa right?

I mean the last thing Christ as about was charity, right?

Sure, they could go to school and get 3 squares.. but where the fuck would they get jobs in their country? Last I checked, the governments hoarded their money and are not gonna change anytime soon. +They are still so dumb despite international efforts, that witch doctors still exist and spread their idiotic ideas throughout.

What a load of absolute shit.

Yes, many African tribes would like to keep their way of life the same as the always have done, what's so bad about that? Why do they have to join us in the modern world? If they're happy on their on, let them be.

But the fact of the matter is, that it is NOT the African's fault that they are starving and poor, it's ours. End of story. And if your too ignorant and obnoxious to realise that then I can in good confidence say that if your god is real, he thinks your a real ass hole. And if your god doesn't think your a real ass hole, you know what? Fuck him. How can you say that the Christian god is more 'intelligent' than African's beliefs? Beliefs are beliefs and yes I agree many of their opinions and beliefs may be wrong in terms of my morals, for instance the slaughter of children that are 'witches'. Now obviously not all Africans are like that but I'm using an example.

BUT, if you DO want to educate them in your wonderful wisdom, how about you give them some of your stuff? How about we share some of what we've got rather than having it all to ourselves. Of course they're not bloody academically intelligent in terms of Western definition of intelligent because most of them don't even go to fucking school! International efforts? What a load of piss. We still demanded outrageous debts from the nations despite the fact they do not have the economy to support the repayment of them so we have to have some man go and make a gig for our cunts we call a government to actually bloody realise what they're doing. Red Nose Day, charities etc. is NOT international efforts, it doesn't even scratch the surface of jack shit over in Africa, which is on a scale larger than you could possibly comprehend.

But the worst thing of all, is that there is nothing we can do about it. Because there will always people in this world like YOU who will refuse to accept that these people need our help and refuse to accept responsibility of everything we have done. Look at what we've done to the world, human beings as a whole. How can you say that we deserve to be sorted into heaven and hell, how can you say we even deserve to be alive, when we've done all this and we STILL refuse to put it right?
