not the world's biggest punk fan, there's an awful lot of crap out there. the whole movement makes for a good story though, i have that one book but i can't remember the name (it's the one with the heartbreakers on the cover wearing bloodstained shirts). here are the punk groups i listen to:

Yes, and his point, made ineloquently I grant you, is that he doesn't particularly like pop-punk, and he then followed it by saying he lives in a world where the mainstream is popular. Which is essentially saying that he lives in a world where popular things are popular which is hilarious, but still, his point was largely that he doesn't like pop-punk as it's not particularly punk. Where as you then reply "lots of people like X" which seems to be the standard reply on this forum and completely misses the point of music really. So what if someone else likes it? He doesn't. And it's not particularly "punk". And he's right, I mean while I won't argue that Sex Pistols weren't manufactured, they still had some sort of sense of danger to them which you can hardly attach to fucking McFly or Paramore. I've had more dangerous jobbies.

I mean like it or not, a large part of punk is the aesthetic, the mind-set. Which can be at times counter-productive (the instant harping on about selling out for example) but has also spawned many, many great things in music. I mean it was the punk scene that was largely responsible for the rise of independent record labels.

He's saying that esssentially REAL punk is dead. And perhaps that's a good thing because it's been milked to death by shitty "gay" (I'd not use that myself) pop-punk music.

No where does he state that pop-punk is no longer around. Your reading comprehension needs some work.

We probably should. Forkboy's right, that is what I was trying to say, but what I was thinking was that because REAL punk is dead there probably wont be anyone else who would make it gay.. So let me rephrase what I said:


Holy shit punk is dead! There barely is a 2nd page on this thread... But I think it's better off dead, that way no one ELSE exploits it or makes it lame and gay like pop-punk and shit like that. And there probably wont be any NEW crap out there that makes punk look like it was made by tasteless morons
