Okay, so pretty simple, any bands/artists you'd like to recommend. I think I did one like this a while ago which was more new bands, not much difference but it doesn't matter. Anyway, so just post the name of the band/artist, why you like them and a good example of there work or just the name of the band or the name of the band and a youtube link - whatever. Just basically write whatever thing you'd recommend which is mostly to do with music!
At the moment I'm loving Bombay Bicycle Club, cannot get enough of them. Most people will probably know of them but yeah, in case for some silly reason you don't know who they are you should start your search with Lamplight, which pretty much sums them up pretty well! |

The Black Keys, although I would imagine the majority of you have heard them. If you like Led Zeppelin and blues rock in general these guys are really good at it. They get compared to the White Stripes a lot (both are blues rock based duos) but the Keys are a little more hardcore guitar driven blues rock than the White Stripes. Saxon, they are pretty good if your into Ac/Dc mixed with metal. If you dont like ACDC, you should still check it out though. |

AIRBOURNE are okay I guess. MAIN LINE RIDERS absolutely fucking suck. Terrible, terrible band. I do really dig ASOMVEL, a rather old band that'll finally put out a debut album later this month. Their sound is kinda in between MOTORHEAD, AC/DC and VENOM. This is amazing as well:
Our favorite JUDAS PRIEST clones, SAINT, will be releasing a new album in a week or two, and fuck me, these samples sound amazing. PRIEST have got nothing on them nowadays if you ask me. Nostradamus was a pile of crap, and Angel of Retribution was nothing more than ok. These samples sound like how real heavy metal is supposed to sound like: soaring vocals, shredding solos, thundering drums and heavy riffs.

Black Tide, are by far the best new metal bands to come along for 20 years. Great in every way and their just now turning 20 years old. Check em out if you like smooth metal vocals, and fast guitar solos. |

I have, and I thought they were one of the bands who sound like the classic rock bands of the 80s. I dont care for the singer to much, but the music rocks. |

Couldn't have said it better myself...their music just stabs at my ears like icepicks. An embarrasment to the Australian hard rock community...Rose Tattoo, The Angels and AC/DC to name a few take a great big dump over Airbourne. |

Old Man friggin' Gloom. I love this band an infeasible amount. Like, they're the band I wanted Isis to be, and in the circles I live in, Isis are just about the biggest band going. Isis are fine and all, just... A bit samey. OMG though, for some reason, I cannot get enough of. They have this really cool crunched guitar tone, and this hugely layered sound, with multi-part screamed vocals, long semi-ambient interludes, and best of all, a crazy-ass conceptual aesthetic about primitivism and human evolution which somehow completely informs the music, resulting in a weirdly sophisticated yet completely brutal sound. Like the old Hydrahead joke motto "Thinking man's metal".

However, as I said, AIRBOURNE are not nearly as horrendous as MAIN LINE RIDERS. Imagine AC/DC without the ferocity, great solos, and thundering riffs, add dumbass evangelical christian lyrics, and to top it all off, a singer that sounds like Bon Scott's retarded little brother that decided to be a pastor. Ugh. There's plenty of retro bands out there that are way worse than AIRBOURNE (THE SWORD for example, who were called "the definitive NWOBHM band" by Lars Ulrich... AH HA!). That said, nothing beats the old bands from Oz. THE HITMEN were another great fucking band. Pure whiskey soaked heavy rock 'n roll.

True, but one day Ac/Dc will be gone, and we will want new bands to take the torch. Airbourne and other fill this role rather than leaving the new music world to crappy new "rock" bands. |
