Progressive metal titans and leaders The Nimrods have finished recording their new album which will be released in a few weeks (game time). The title fits the music "Be Obscene". The band has once again changed direction, but not to avoid criticism. The band has mixed the genres of Math Metal/Death Metal/and Black metal into one master piece.Basically wrapping Meshuggah,Opeth,Atheist, and Dimmu Borgir into one.The band has managed to take very rhythmic, syncopated grooves of math metal, adding a little synth for the atmosphere of black metal, and harsh vocals and a few fast heavy riffs for a death metal flavor. The band also began using 7 string guitar and 5 string basses for a heavier sound which lets them have darker grooves.Davey also begins to utilize slap bass technique for a stronger sound and Kit's drumming is actually outdone for once with most songs done in one take with Kit at some points playing at around 400 bpm on the bass drum.Kit's rhythm has also changed with some parts sounding random to the untrained ear giving a cool offbeat feel.Jimmy's guitar playing is at it's best with no solo sounding similar and the rhythms requiring several different and very difficult picking patterns. His voice is also more guttural and manly, finally abandoning his somewhat boyish voice. In overall this is The Nimrods at their best.

Here's the breakdown of their most critically acclaimed song off of the album, an instrumental called "So Very Obscene":
The song begins with an extremely slow lead giving an ambient feel which is played in 3/8.This lead is changed slightly a few times and repeats when a heavy groove comes in which is actually a drum rudiment called a paradiddle played on guitar. The pattern would be downupdowndown and is preceded by a triplet. This is in 5/8 time.As this play the bass plays a simple slapped part accenting the down strokes of the guitar while the bass drum follows the guitar and the china cymbal and snare are played in common time also known as 4/4 time. The guitar pattern then becomes more syncopated playing a 6/9 riff while the bass part becomes more complex as well as the drum parts which involves the bass drum continuing to follow the guitar while a basic beat is played on the china and snare flowing into two tom hits and repeating. After this another groove is played this time the drums only using toms for a more tribal feel, this time the beat is 12/8 which gives a cool triplet feel.Keyboards also come in for a more black metal feel becoming eerie. After this the grooves are played over again with a solo on top which has a nice jazz fusion feel too it and also some bluesy parts. After this there is a drum fill and then silence. The silence is only about 5 seconds as the music returns with a fast tech death part with lots of syncopated 5/8 and 4/12 riffs. The bass assumes a guttural heavy tone that is still heard easily with lots of technical lines. The drums play blast beats with triplets and other rudiments on the bass drum going to amazing speeds as Kit constantly changes the bass pattern to different timings while the snare and ride play a 4/4 blast. After this Jimmy plays another solo, this time more technical and a bit over the top with the ending part patched by Davey. The next part of the song is a drum and bass solo with Kit and Davey both playing several complex timings and using several fills varying in difficulty, constantly returning to the same groove. The second to last part of the song is possibly the most complex black metal ever made with a folk metal/medieval tinge to it while it's played in 2/4.The song has one last part to it which is a clean outro with a diminished, gloomy feel to it that has no drums and only a few taps on the ride while Jimmy and Davey play the sad part. The last part is perfect for Nimrods fashion and shows their lightheartedness. It's Jimmy farting into the microphone.

OOC:I'm only describing 1 song today but from there I'm gonna do two a day.
