A couple things.
For one, we of Enoch have released a new album (actually, we did a couple weeks ago, but it hit top ten in all regions, so who's counting!) called White Mystery. If you recall, this is our first new studio album since we released the 4-part Vault series, clearing out some b-sides and unreleased material. It is, like several previous albums, a double-disc, but each disc is only around 40 minutes long or so. It was just slightly too much to fit onto one CD without distortion. The theme that cropped up across the music and lyrics this time was much darker than before, as evidenced on songs like "Big Sleep and the Black Dream", "Skeletal Histories", and "Whiskey". The darker tracks tend to go on longer, averaging around 8 minutes, mainly due to our use of space on them, like big black ink blots across the surface of water or something. We do end the album with a basically 30-minute long epic. The first five minutes of the epic is entitled "Comet Tails" and is actually a separate track because it works rather well on its own and will likely be a single. The remaining 25 minutes are broken into five sections: "Overture", "The Crush", "Vapor", "Dawn", and "Cambria". This follows the rise of life on Earth up until the early fish. I had been reading a bunch of sciencey books on the topic and we had some instrumental bits that hadn't been linked to anything, so we spent about three weeks piecing together an epic to discuss the subject. In the liner notes of the album are various citations of the books I got ideas from for the song. This isn't supposed to be pretentious! I sincerely hope it will interest some of you into looking into some of those books.
In other news, we are looking for collaborators for our new album, tentatively titled Black Machine. Aside from two pieces we've recorded for it, we are going in a somewhat more compact direction with our prog rock and would love to have a couple of guests. No full bands, but a guitarist here or a keyboardist there or some dueting never hurts.
More news! We basically have enough B-sides to release a new album in the Vault series. You guys decide whether you want that.
- Langdon

Tim Dunn: Mike or I would love to work with you guys. We just finished the recording for the Jazz All-Stars so we have some free time. Mike can handle keyboard, piano, or vocals. I can do bass/doublebass, guitars, drums, vocals, and the saxophone. As a band Axiom has always been labeled by prog several times by different media outlets and while we may not completely agree (we prefer rock without rules, more akin to something like The Beatles. It was all pop/rock/pop-rock but they still experimented with sounds, instrumentation, song structures, etc. while still being clearly identifiable as rock) we do have a penchant for musical experimentation. |

We'll get working on working out which song sketches we have would fit your styles the best. And don't worry; none of us here are big on the idea of "talking down" to talent by crafting songs that sound like yours. Mark and I love working with Regan because, when we play together, it sounds different from both his normal stuff and ours. So, we'll get some stuff to let you guys stretch your wings without dropping you into totally bizarre terrain.
On a similar note, Mark and I have been thinking about doing a Gorillaz-type album, where we act more as directors for talent than pulling in people as guests. Any thoughts on that idea from you guys?

Hey guys, I know normally I just drum for Black Gold Reign, but I used to sing in some avant garde groups, and it would be cool to step out from behind the kit and lay down some vocals. I think the Gorillaz approach could go down very well.

- Langdon I like the Gorrilaz idea. It would be great to experience and hear a different voice in the studio directing the songwriting and recoding process. Since Mike and I produce all of Axiom's stuff we don't have the experience of someone else directing the music. it would be fun just to hear what comes of this kind of project. |

We've come to a decision on how to approach the collaborative project. Ideally, it will work like this:
I would do vocals on most tracks. Mark would play bass. Kit would drum. Jakey would play keyboard with a focus on creating lush, ambient soundscapes. Mike would play keyboard with a focus on more melodic playing. Tim would play sax. Aaron and Jimmy would both play guitar. Anyone can sing would do backing vocals or, if your vocals fit better than mine, would be the main vocalist for a track.
This would create a full band for an album, with Mark and me acting as creative heads to help lead you guys through your roles without suffocating you. And as for the Bards: We'd prefer to do something a bit special with you. We're crafting a somewhat expansive epic that we'd like you guys to appear on, playing various bits. It's a somewhat bombastic and rocky epic, with touchstones in Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Genesis. We figure we could release the collaborations with a 7 song disc of the band tracks and a second disc with the epic.
What does everyone say?

Alright. Three more guys need to check in with us to say whether they are working this or not, but we have a good core group (guitar, bass, drums) plus Jakey's keys, so we'll begin working on the seven tracks. This is terribly exciting for us.

Excellent. Now everyone has checked in aside from Jimmy and the Bards! We've been working on material, but things have been getting kind of hectic since we are finishing up the Black Machine material. However, that should be done in a week or two (OOC: game time), so if you guys could fly to Seattle sometime around then, we could have a meeting of the minds to see where we should take this material. After that, we could just toss recordings back and forth through email, but I think that this would work better as a whole if we had a face-to-face chat about what we want this stuff to do before we get down to it.
