If you were elected as Prime Minister of Great Britain? Now, you can put whatever realistic restraints you want on yourself, but I thought this might be a pretty cool thing to talk about and just see what different people's policies would be. I put it in serious debate because it will hopefully become one, but if mod's wanna switch it to another forum then fair do's. :) |

I don't really have a deep enough understanding of British politics to answer that quesiton, but if I was the Pres. of the US:
-Push to repeal the corporate income tax -Work to move towards a consumption based tax system rather than income based -Add restrictions and regulations back into financial markets since self-regulation failed -Increase the requirements to graduate from high school -Have tighter control over federal budget and begin making cuts in areas of overly excessive spending (such as defense) -Social security needs to be changed to individual retirement accounts with the money being off limits to government use -Repeal federally mandated minimum wage laws, and completely bar minimum wage from certain industries -Make it easier to obtain work visas for foreigners who wish to work in the US
Just a few things I would work towards. |

hard thing to say really, as being Pm of GB means you are the head of a popular party which allready has set constraints on it.
I would probably push for a fairer but tighter immigration system. a green based manufacturing economy. a smaller goverment. tax and welfare reform which helps the less fortunate and closes loopholes on the super rich. push for reform in the EU so it is more accountable and democratic. reduce our dependence on the USA when it comes to forign policy and try and tie us closer to the EU. pull out of afganistan, and reduce the size of the army, while keeping its budget the same, meaning that we have smaller better trained and better equipt armed forces. scrap trident. stop sending foriegn aid to countries like China. and probably a lot of other things that don't occur to me right now. |
I hate it when people see me at the supermarket and they are like: Hey, what are you doing here? and im just like: Oh you know, hunting elephants |

My personal ideals require something of a major overhaul of just about every aspect of society, essentially setting up community townships of maybe 25,000 at the most, and build a certan level of self-sufficiency for energy requirements such as lighting, via solar and wind power, and heat from ground source heat pumps, as well as providing basic services such as size-managed supermarkets and clothing and other essential services. Out-of-town shopping estates would become less prevalent, as most of their retail services were decentralised to smaller locations.
Next a complete overhaul of inner and inter-city transport links, using high-speed rail, monorail, trams etc. Architecturally, new buildings would be encouraged to develop walkways, rooftop sky gardens, and the like, better taking advantage of the verticality of space in order to eventually create multi-level cities, ideally allowing for retail areas to maintain a separation between a consumer level and a storage level with its own transport and delivery mechanisms.
Also, an introduction of mandatory national service (which Cam and I hashed out a month or two ago) - essentially consisting of a period of perhaps a year, likely increased to two years if you leave school at 16, of community work or military service. The essential advantage is that it puts youngsters straight into work at a young age, prior to, and in many cases instead of higher education, lowering the burden upon of society to support student drop-outs and the like. On the non-military side, kids could be put into work in areas like urban regeneration projects, construction apprenticeships, auxiliary medical staff, all kinds of low-level community-oriented jobs and learn basic applied work skills, while being paid a basic minimum wage salary, and if necessary, accommodation provided.
Oh, and then we'll round up all the jews and the queers... |

I'd push through a law that lifts me up to a similar level as Kim Il-Sung and Jesus Christ. |

You're thinking Jong-Il Nah, not at all. Kim Il-Sung died in 1994 and yet is still the Eternal President of North Korea. I want that level of reverence/personality cult. Il-Sung is his kid and has fostered the personality cult around his father to help cement his own grasp on power. I recommend reading up on Juche (the idelogogy of N.Korea) and the state itself, it's hilarious while also being tragic. Edited by user 05 May 2010 10:35:54(UTC)

Oh sorry, the president of SK is named Kim too so I got confused. They call the current dude like great leader and Il Sung supreme leader or something like that. They also can't use google or other sites that might educate them about the outside world ,American magazines, and I saw a documentary where a children's nursery rhyme is singing about killing Americans. |

If I was president of Mexico all my proposals would get turned down by the Congress (God bless the system), so after two months of "negotiations" I would get tired so I'd only go out and say some speeches from time to time, while still getting my humongous paycheck. Then once my administration is over I would live on my president pension, that is even bigger than the president salary. I have to get into politics. |

... can the PM of GB even do that? I think he'd find it hard to do that, but I mean it is theoretically possible. And the British are a rather passive people... |
