(Alex Flux and Eric Quillington are fifteen)

Alex’s Point of View

As soon as I opened the front door, I instantly regretted bringing Greg to band practice. Eric had verbally torn apart the last couple of bassists we had with just a few sentences, so I was almost dreading what he’d say to our new recruit. Plus, I’d never actually told them I found a new bassist, so I wasn’t exactly sure what he’d say. It was really kind of intimidating to be in a band with someone like him, and the sarcastic smile he gave the two of us as soon as we entered the room didn’t help matters much.

“Well, howdy Alex, who’s your new boyfriend?” Eric said mockingly. Before I could even think to say something in return, Greg replied, “Don’t worry, I’m not here to steal your boy toy. I just heard you guys needed a new bassist.” Now that I’d actually seen the two of them together, I’d begun to wonder just how Greg might deal with Eric’s sarcasm. Eric wasn’t exactly scrawny, but Greg looked like a giant compared to him. Of course, Eric Quillington wasn’t one to act nervous, so he leapt off of the sofa he was sitting on, and said, “Oh, hey, I know you. You’re Greg Oldson, captain of the football team… wow, this is so stereotypical.”

“And, this is Eric Quillington,” I said, glad that I could finally get a word in, “He’s our guitarist. And the guy in the back is Rick Vandervoot, he’s our drummer.” Rick nodded his head in acknowledgement, and went right back to setting up his drum kit. “We’re kind of a shitty band,” Eric said to Greg, as though this was common knowledge, “The band’s name is Alpharian, which was thought up by yours truly. We kind of go through a lot of bassists, because-“

“Because Eric keeps insulting their playing.” I said, cutting him off, “Hopefully Eric will learn to deal with you.”

“Oh, don’t worry about Greg,” Eric sarcastically called out from the sofa, which he was once again lying on, “I can tell that we are gonna be friends.”

Eric’s Point of View

Rick wasn’t exactly saying much. Of course, that was to be expected, he was kind of shy. I actually really liked him; he never said stupid things. Kind of the opposite of me. After another few minutes of crippling boredom, Alex walked in the room, looking extremely happy and smug about something. I immediately realized what that something was when I saw the kid right beside him, and I immediately realized he was Isaac’s replacement. Time to see how easily provoked the new guy can be, I thought to myself.

“Well, howdy Alex, who your new boyfriend?” I immediately regretted saying this, as the fact sunk in that the new feller was quite a bit taller than me. Instead of just beating me into a pulp, he replied, “Don’t worry, I’m not here to steal your boy toy. I just heard that you guys needed a new bassist.” Touché.

I got my first good look at him; he looked like a bit of a tool, and was muscular enough to probably be on the football team. Ah, football, that rings a bell. I leapt off the sofa, and walked towards him. “Oh, hey, I know you. You’re Greg Oldson, captain of the football team.” I paused for a minute, realizing how stupid this was; the school’s misfit in a band with the guy all the ladies swoon for. “Wow, this is so stereotypical.” I said under my breath, but loud enough for him to hear.

After another minute or so of introductions, I walked back to the sofa and started tuning my guitar. I really hoped my mom wouldn’t mind the drumset in the middle of her kitchen when she gets back. We should’ve done this in the garage, I thought. “Hopefully Eric will learn how to deal with you.” Alex sighed, obviously annoyed with me. In order to kind of make up for driving away yet another bassist, I replied, “Oh, don’t worry about Greg. I can tell that we are gonna be friends.”

OOC: Sorry if it doesn't seem like Alex's point of view is as well-written as Eric's; I've just written about Eric longer, which is why it's easier for me to write about what he thinks. Anyways, this is the first part of a story that'll probably be about seven or eight parts long. I hope you all enjoy it!

(Eric and Alex are sixteen)

Alex's Point of View

I could barely hear anybody over the sound of the music, but that honestly didn’t stop me from having a good time. The best feeling is always right after the show… all the pressure about messing up or seeming like a cock is gone. All that’s left is the feeling of accomplishment, and being noticed. The ironic thing is; the person in our band who gets the most attention is the one who always acts like such a dick after the shows. I wasn’t sure if Eric was just putting on a show or not, but it was definitely getting him noticed.

As I watched Eric talking to Greg, and looking like his puppy just died, I couldn’t help but feel a certain sense of jealousy. It was fairly obvious that he was the most talented… and, I felt like I was holding him back. I couldn’t sing, I could scream… and that wasn’t the kind of music Eric wanted to play. Even though he was a dick, I had to respect him; if I was as well-known as him, I’d use it to bone every girl in sight.

But, I guess it doesn’t matter; as long as Alpharian has Eric Quillington, we’ll be okay.

Eric's Point of View

I always feel like the world’s biggest dick, especially after a show. I mean, you play on stage, and you feel like a god. Everybody’s looking at you, paying attention to what you have to say; even if you’re making a complete ass of yourself, people can’t turn their eyes away. And then, you just go back to normalcy. If you aren’t in a famous band, you don’t matter as soon as you get off the stage. It was just a very irritating difference, and it took me a while to get off the high from being on stage. So, it’s easy to imagine how I felt during Alex’s party, which conveniently took place right after the show.

Greg was sitting on the same couch I was, looking just as bored. It surprised me; I thought he joined this band just to go to places exactly like this. He answered my question without me even asking by saying, “Honestly, I thought it’d be slightly different than this.” I pretended I wasn’t interested and just grunted in reply. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about Greg, it’s the fact that he tends to be more forceful about information when he doesn’t think anybody cares.

“I mean, godamnit, dude, I could get into stuff like this regardless, I’m not someone who has to be in a band just be invited to parties.” I sighed, and decided to take the piss, “Alright, dude, why the hell ARE you in this band?”

Greg paused for a second to consider his answer, and then replied, “I dunno, man, I just wanted something different. This band kind of sucks, we just play the same Slayer covers night after night. There’s no creativity… I just think there’s more to being in a band than just this.”

I looked at the people socializing and talking about nothing. They seemed so fake. I sighed, “Yeah, me too.”

(Alex Flux is seventeen, Eric Quillington is sixteen)

Alex's Point of View

Of course, the world revolved around Eric Quillington. How could I ever forget? As much as he hated to deny it, he loved having an audience for his problems. Maybe that’s the reason he started in this band, I thought bitterly to myself. The mood had been fine for most of the day; Rick came up with a new drum beat, and I was messing around on a guitar to find a riff to accompany it. I never really played guitar before, but I’d always loved how it sounded. If there was ever a time to learn how to play it, it would be now. If this band ever needs a rhythm guitarist, at least I’ll be able to help them out.

Any happy mood ended the moment Eric walked into the garage. It’s impossible to predict how he’d be feeling on a particular day, but I’d never seen him like this before. He was usually passive-aggressive, but today… even the way he walked was showing just how pissed he seemed to be. Following behind him was Greg, who was increasingly becoming his loyal follower. I thought it was kind of ridiculous; I introduced him to the band, and now he acted like he barely knew me. Of course, that was to be expected, Greg always became the best friend of whoever was in charge. That’s why Eric’s next statement wasn’t all that surprising.

“We quit. Alpharian sucks, Greg and I are starting our own band.” The way Eric said it made me laugh in a fit of almost hysterics; he sounded like a little six year old throwing a temper tantrum. Probably just doing this for attention, no big deal, I thought. “Alright, sure… anyways, Rick and I have been working on this song, I thought you might li-“

“You don’t understand, do you? It’s finished, over, kaput. I started this band, I’ll end it.” I was sick of being the pushover, so I stood up and said to him, “Really, Eric, you’re just going to walk out? Give me one good reason why you’re acting like such an ass.” Eric didn’t even pause to think, and simply replied, “Because you’re a shitty singer. So whiny, it’s almost like teenage angst is the only thing you can fucking sing about. ‘Ohhh, Rick, Eric is the only talented member of this band, but we’ll be fine as long as he’s around.’ I’m not going to be in a band where I’m treated like a god. You want this band to do well without me? Maybe you should put some effort into your shitty music.”

Eric left the house without saying another word, with Greg following behind while trying to hide an obvious smile of smugness. I felt like my closest friend in the world had died, been replaced with someone new. After several minutes of stunned silence, I quietly picked up the guitar, and softly began to play where I left off.

Eric's Point of View

I felt slight apprehension as I walked into Rick’s garage. It’d be the last time I did so, and the thought was almost bittersweet. Still, it had to be done. I had musical talent, and it was my ONLY talent. It was either this, or working at a McDonalds for the rest of my life. I love Alex to death, I really do… but, the sad truth of it is; he’s holding me back. Greg’s been telling me this for a while now, and it’s true. A band with Greg Oldson and Eric Quillington would do far better if Alex and Rick weren’t in it.

Of course, that didn’t necessarily mean everything I did was completely right and justified; the look of heartbreak on Alex’s face after I ranted on about his voice still comes to my mind every time I sing with Infinite. As I left that room, though, I felt the same apprehension that I felt when I walked into it; now the real work would begin.

OOC: About halfway done with this RP, even though this part might seem like the end. The second half is going to be far more interesting than the first; I'm excited I can finally start to write it.
